40 Waves
Waves are beautiful to look at, but they can pull down ships at sea, wash away fields and buildings near the shore. The sun heats the earth, causing the air to rise and the winds to blow. The winds blow across the sea，pushing little waves into bigger and bigger ones．
The stronger the wind is，the bigger the waves are．The longer the wind blows，the larger the waves are．In a small pool big waves never build up．But at sea the wind can build up giant powerful waves．
A rule says that the height of wave（in meters）will usual1y be no more than one-tenth of a wind's speed（in kilometers）．In other words, when the wind is blowing at 120 kilometers per hour, most waves will be about twelve meters．In 1993；the waves of the Pacific Ocean have ever been to a height of thirty一four meters．
