Africa lies to the southeast of Asia. On the west it faces the Atlantic Ocean and on the east it faces the Indian Ocean．On the north it faces Europe. It has an area of more than thirty million square kilometers，being the second largest continent in the world，next only to Asia．
The Nile which measures 6，450 kilometers in length is the second longest river in the world．It has two tributaries in its upper reaches，of which one is the White Nile rising on the East African Plateau，and the other is the blue Nile rising on the Ethiopian Plateau．The two tributaries having joined in the Central Sudan．The Nile flows through Egypt into the Mediterranean．
The Sahara Desert, which is one of the largest deserts，divides Africa into two parts．Arabs live north of the Desert and the black people live south of it．The white people from Europe，small in number, live mainly in the south area of Africa．
Africa is rich in natural resources such as oil，gold，copper and diamond．It is also famous for its fine cotton．People there are brave and hard-working．They fought bravely for their independence and freedom
