Step I. Greeting and leading in

Step II Presentation
1. While listening, decide whether the sentences are true or false.
1) There are a lot of differences between American English and Canadian English.
2) “I don’t follow you” means “I don’t understand you”.
3) In Canada, most people mainly use British English.
4) Canada newspapers use British English, but schoolbooks use American English.
5) Canadians from different parts of the country speak quite differently.
T check the answers and ask the Ss to correct the false sentences.
2. Listen to the tape again and Ss repeat the dialogue after the tape.

3. Finish the Ex. on P 103.
Ex. 2 : Fill in the blanks in the passage which is about the dialogue.
Ex 3: Complete the dialogue with the Qs in the box.. The dialogue is about the difference between American and British English.
4. Ask Ss to make a similar dialogue about the difference between American English and Canadian English, with the help of the form. Then ask 1 pair to act out the dialogue.
Step IV. Consolidation
Ask Ss to read the dialogue again.
Step V. Homework
Recite the dialogue and preview the next lesson.
Period Two ------- Reading
1. Teaching Aims:
1) Learn the lesson to get the brief ideas of Canada, such as the size, the weather, the history, the energy, geography and the language.
2) Get Ss to know more about Canada after they read the passage under the T’s guidance.
3) Improve Ss’ ability of reading comprehension.

Step I. Greeting and Revision.
Ask some Ss to tell the difference between American English and Canadian English.
Ask Ss in what way are American English and British English different
( pronunciation, vocabulary, spelling and grammar)
Step II. Leading in.
1. Show Ss some maple leaves and let them think of Canada, then show them the Canadian flag.
2. Ask Ss some questions about Canada:
1) What do you know about Canada
2) Where is Canada
3) Is it a large country How large is it
4) Do you think Canada is larger or smaller than China
3. Show Ss a map of Canada.
1) On the south part is U.S.A.
On the west part is the Atlantic Ocean.
On the east part is the Pacific Ocean.
On the north part is the Arctic Ocean.
On the northeast is U.S.A.
2) Famous Provinces: Ontario, Quebec
3) Famous cities: Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal

Step III. Presentation
1. Learn sth. about the new words. (P39 Word study)
T say some meanings of the words and Ss guess the word.
2. Let Ss read the passage quickly and decide what subjects are included in the passage.
3. T check the answer and ask Ss to find out the main idea of each paragragh.

1) Let Ss read the 2 examples, and think about when to use singular verb and when to use plural verb.
2) T tell Ss that when we thinking of the “army” as a unit or an organization, we use the verb in the singular form. But when we are thinking of the “ army” as the individual people in that organization, we use the verb in the plural form.
3) T give some other nouns like “ army” : group , family , class , team …
4) Let Ss do the exercises in Part 4 alone, then discuss them with each other. Finally T deal them with the whole class.
Step VI. Practice and Consolidation
1. Let Ss do Ex 2 on Wb P 105. Fill in the blanks with have/has or are/is.
2. T check the answers and ask Ss to tell the reasons.
3. T sum up another rule of the Grammar----Agreement from the Ex. No.5 & No.8:
