Some teaching ideas
The Basic English Education courses, which aim to stimulate and develop the Ss’ interest and self-confidence in learning English and let them have a positive attitude towards it, focus on training the students’ reading ability and help form strong self-learning capabilities. To stimulate students’ interest in learning English, it is necessary for teachers to help students change from passive to active involvement in teaching activities by using some good methods the students like.
So in this case, I mainly have planned to do much in the following three aspects to raise the English proficiency of the students and develop their interest in learning English. First, before class, I will play a piece of background music called what I will be… so that they can quickly begin to think about the future life, then I will let the students watch and listen to a piece of news about Shenzhou6, making the students feel the rapid development of science and technology for the future life. Allow the students to bravely imagine what the future technology will bring us.
Second in the course of reading, I mainly designed four The Basic English Education courses, which aim to stimulate and develop the Ss’ interest and self-confidence in learning English and let them have a positive attitude towards it, focus on training the students’ reading ability and help form strong self-learning capabilities. parts respectively to achieve different purposes. The first part aims to help students develop one of the reading skills, scanning. In the second part of this step, I will ask the students to answer some questions and give them some key words to make the students have a deeper understanding about the material. Next, I borrowed the reading material from Integrating skills for integration and let the Ss do the given exercises after a fast reading of the two passages. What I designed is to help train the students’ reading abilities such as understanding of the details, grasping the general idea and right inference. Part IV mainly aims to train the students’ teamwork and the ability to independently explore the world and gain the knowledge. This can help them have a stronger sense of teamwork and form a good habit of self-learning.
At last, I used some news clips to help teaching in the project. For example, in step6, I’ve chosen a piece of news about Skype, which people can use to talk with each other face to face. After watching and listening, the Ss analyze the influence on the future schools and debate on the following topic: Is it possible that real classrooms will disappear in the future Why or why not This aims to further develop students’ creativity and get them into the good habit of thinking. Let the Ss realize that the life in the future will be wonderful and competitive. So they should work harder to prepare for the future development. Because teaching is not just to teach language points or reading skills. (I think: Reading skills are not to be taught, but one forms naturally after reading a lot)
In short, in my opinion, the design is rich, creative and has a large capacity in keeping with contemporary trends in English teaching. It is also workable. Meanwhile, it will have increased the level of difficulty in real teaching .So in the general class, the teacher can complete it in two periods.
