Teaching Aims
I .Knowledge Aims
Let Ss review some words about sports and learn some new words as well as some language points.
II. Ability Aims
A. Improve the Ss’ reading ability.
B. Train the Ss to find the important points of the text by themselves.
III. Emotion Aims
A. Get the Ss to know some information about the Olympic Games.
B. Encourage the Ss to learn from the athletes’ spirits.
Main points: How to grasp the main idea of each paragraph.
Difficult points: How to improve the Ss’ reading ability.
Teaching methods: Skimming method, Task-based method, discussion
method and competition. method.
Learning methods: Cooperation, exploration study
Teaching aids: Multi-media
Teaching Procedures:
Step 1Greeting
Greet the Ss as usual.
Step 2 Lead-in
1) Let Ss enjoy a piece of video and they will know the topic for today.
2) The teacher introduce some basic information about the Olympic Games, such as the Olympic Flag, Olympic emblems and Olympic mascots.
3) Have a quiz about the Olympic Games.
Step 3 Word Study
Show the fifteen events in which Chinese athletes won 32 gold medals.
Let Ss review the names of some sports and learn some new words.
Step 4 Fast Reading
1) Ss listen to the tape and judge some sentences true or false .
( F)1.The Winter Olympic Games are held every three years.
(T)2.In the early Olympic Games, only men were allowed to compete the Games
(F)3. The motto of the Olympic Games is “Faster, Higher, Further”.
(F)4. The 28th Olympic Games were held in Los Angeles.
(T)5. The 29th Olympic Games will be held in Beijing.
2) Let Ss read the passage again and find out the topics of each paragraph.
Step 5 Reading aloud
Let Ss read the text after the tape.
Step 6 Practice
Let Ss find the sentences with numbers and read them out..
Step 7 Language points
1) Let Ss find out the language points by themselves and try to explain them.
2) Then the teacher give some further explanation.
Notes:
1 every four years 每四年
every + 基数词 + 名词复数 / every +序数词 + 名词单数,这两结构可表示“ 每。。。”、 “每隔”
e.g. every three days = every third day
每隔两天 / 每三天
every two years = every other year
每两年 / 隔年
every other line / day
隔行 / 天
2 take part in ,join ,join in 和 attend 的用法比较。
这几个词或短语都有参加的意思,但用法不同。
1)take part in 参加,参与( 指参加某项活动,如群众性活动、会议等),着重说明主语参加该项活动并在活动中发挥作用。 可指参加工作、学习、活动等。
e.g. John takes part in many school activities.
John 参加很多学校活动。
The Ss took part in the experiment.
学生们参加这项实验。
He takes an active part in politics.
他积极参政。
2)join
指加入某个党派,团体组织等,成为其成员之一,意为:“参军,入团,入党”等。
e.g. join the army 参军
join the Young Pioneers. 加入少先队
和某人一起做某事,join sb. in (doing) sth.
e.g. Will you join us in the discussion
你参加我们的讨论吗?
He will join us in singing the song.
他将和我们一起唱歌。
3)join in多指参加小规模的活动如“球赛,游戏”等,常用语日常口语。
e.g. Come along , and join in the ball game.
快来参加球赛。
4)attend是正式用语,及物动词,指参加会议,婚礼,葬礼,典礼;去上课,上学,听报告等。句子的主语只是去听,去看,自己不一定起积极作用。
attend a meeting 出席会议
attend the concert 去听音乐会
attend the lecture 听讲座
attend school 上学
attend a class 听(上)课
attend the wedding 参加婚礼
This is the same car that I lost. 这辆车就是我所丢失的那辆。
③in modern times
time作“时代”解时,常用复数形式times.
e.g. She didn’t understand the spirit of the times.
她不理解那个时代的精神。
in ancient times
在古代
有时,作“时代”解时,也可以用单数形式
e.g. in Shakespear’s time
在莎士比亚时代
in Queen Victoria’s time
在维多利亚女王时代
④ history-making
名词+ v-ing 构成复合形容词,我们学过类似的结构还有:
an English-speaking country
一个说英语的国家
fresh-eating animals
食肉动物
Step 8 Consolidation
Let Ss do some written exercises
Step 9 Discussion
Let Ss watch a piece of video and discuss: what can we learn from the athletes
