◆Teaching Goals:
1. Target Language
a. Important words and expressions: waist, fair, guidance, gifted, assist, sympathy, encouragement, visual, impair, disappointing, adjust, get around, get used to, adjust to
b. Important sentences
(1) I know people are trying to help, but I wish they wouldn’t treat me as if I were a child.
(2) Sitting in the classroom, Xiaowen looks just like all her classmates.
(3) Today there are more opportunities for disabled people to develop their potential, live a rich life and make a contribution to society.
(4) The Beijing Union University has launched a special education college where gifted disabled students receive the help they need to succeed.
(5) They not only learn how to assist disabled people, but also learn the importance of cooperating to reach their goals in life.
(6) They need recognition, more than sympathy and help.
2. Ability goals
a. Learn something about disabilities through reading.
b. The students can use what they have learned to describe the possible difficulties that the disabled have to overcome and what has already been done for them.
c. Make them imagine if they were disabled, what would they need and how would they want to be treated.
d. How to express the difficulties and needs of the disabled with the target language in this
unit.
◆Teaching important points:
1.Try to master the useful new words & expressions in this period.
2.Understand the text well.
◆Teaching difficult points:
1. Analyze the writing techniques of the test.
2. To understand the reading materials of similar topics.
3. how to use the students’ own words to describe the difficulties of the disabled.
◆Teaching aids: a computer, a tape recorder & a projector, a rope, a piece of cloth
◆Teaching procedures
Step 1: Revision
1. Greeting the whole class as usual.
2. Review some words about disability
T: Good afternoon everyone!
Ss: Good afternoon, Miss Hong!
T: Well, yesterday we learnt the word “disability” is the key word in this unit. And we also learnt some words to express disabilities. For instants:
Ss: deaf, blind, ……
Step 2: Lead-in
T: Before today’s class, let’s play a game together ‘suppose’. The first game--Suppose you are blind… I prepare a piece of cloth. I would like one of you to cooperate with me. I will use it to cover your eyes and then you should try your best to walk to the front of the class and shake hands with me. Who like to try
(Ask one student to do the things according to the requirement)
T: Thank you. And now go back to your seat. I have one question for you. What’s your feeling during this short distance
S: (difficult, dark…)
T: Well, as we could see, if we were blind, even the simple walking would be difficult. Then let’s move on to the second game--Suppose you just have one leg… I prepare a rope. I would like one of you to cooperate with me. I will tie your legs together and then you should try your best to walk to the front of the class and shake hands with me. Who like to try

Step 3: Pre-reading and fast-reading
1. Show some pictures. Ask the students to guess the name of some famous disabled people and talk about them
2. Scan the text.
T: So after the game we could know that if one part of our body couldn’t be used, our life would be very, very difficult. However, in the world there still are a lot of famous disabled people. All of them made great contribution to the society. Now look at the screen and see some pictures. Guess who are they.

T: Although they are disabled, they still make every effort to fulfill their lives. Today we will learn a new test about some disabled people and their lives. Now turn to page 51, unit 17 reading: Disabled Not me! Read the passage quickly and answer the following questions.
Q1: How many disabled people are mentioned and who are they
Two.They are Zhong Xiaowen and Ye Zijie.
Q2: What has the Beijing Union University launched to assist the disabled students
They has launched a special education college for gifted disabled students.

Task 1 Listening and reading
Listen to the tape and read the passage again. Fill in the blanks with proper words according to the text.
Task 2 Decide whether the following sentences are true or false.

Q1.what are some of the difficulties Xiaowen and other disabled students have to over come
They have to overcome both physical and social difficulties. Their disability prevents them from moving around freely and makes everyday activities more difficult, and people’s attitude towards them makes them feel unfairly treated and not wanted.
Q2.What do the students who are not disabled at the special education college learn
They learn to assist disabled people , but they also learn to cooperate.
Q3.How do the special education college and Literature of Chinese blind Children help disabled people
They help disabled people by providing assistance, education, support, inspiration and encouragement.

教学反思:
这堂课整体反应还是不错的,采用了任务型教学,课堂气氛活跃,目的明确。
但是实际操作中还存在学生配合程度不够,课堂容量太大的问题。
