Tourism wasn’t as important as it is today. In the past, only people with a good deal of money could travel on holidays to other countries. More people travel today than in the past because there is a growing middle class in many parts of the world; that is to say, people now have more money for travel. Special plane fares(费用) for tourists make travel less expensive and more attractive than ever before. One person doesn’t travel for the same reason as another. But most people enjoy seeing countries that are different from their own. They also like to meet new people and to taste new food.
Tourism causes many changes in a country and in people’s lives. People build new hotels and restaurants and train native men and women as guides to show visitors interesting places. There’re new nightclubs and other amusements. International tourism is clearly a big business.

Did you know that a turtle(乌龟)can lay 12 eggs in one minute A large sea turtle lays
around 150 eggs at a time. She lays all these eggs in just a few minutes.
Large sea turtles live in the warm seas of the world. Except for when they lay their eggs, they
spend their whole lives in the water. When it is time to lay their eggs, the females swim to land.
They usually return to the place where they themselves were born. How they find their way back
there is unknown.
When they reach shore, the big, heavy turtles crawl slowly up to the high water mark. Using
their flippers, they pull themselves along the sand. They must struggle like mountain climbers.
When they finally reach dry sand, they rest before beginning the difficult task of laying eggs.
The turtles lay the eggs in deep holes and cover them with warm sand. The sand protects the
eggs from harm. Then the females leave them. After a few weeks, if you happened to be walking
along the beach, you might see the sand begin to shake. You may see tiny black balls coming out
of the sand. The tiny heads of baby turtles!

So my daughter and I had to stay in a hotel. It cost me £12.”

Tired of bad handwriting, Richie decided to perfect his penmanship (书法) last January. And though the year progressed, his writing didn't. "My penmanship just got worse,"he says."I get tired of trying to write neatly."
Like Richie, many teenagers make resolutions at the beginning of each new year. More than half of Americans say they make a New Year's resolution - but only one-third of them are successful, reports the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Demanding total perfection (完美) is one reason people stop working on their resolutions, says Chicago life coach Alison Miller.
Resolutions sometimes can be unrealistic (不现实的). Going for a goal that's too hard to achieve can leave a person feeling sad, Miller says.
"Saying 'I'm going to look like a super-model or Britney Spears is going to make you unhappy," she says.
Sure it's a great idea to aim for improvement, but not all resolutions are helpful. The difference between good and bad resolutions is whether you expect too much from yourself, Miller says. For example, it's OK to say, "I'm going to eat fewer French fries (薯条)," but striving (力争) for a perfect body isn't reasonable.
Timing also can damage a resolution. Kevin M., 16, says he doesn't set resolutions because 12 months is unrealistic. "It's too long and you start putting off keeping your resolution during summer," he says.
Even though "New Year's resolutions don't work" for him, Kevin is planning to practise piano for at least an hour a day this year. He's considering a career in music, but says homework and school are his main focuses. Knowing his work, he says he'll "be lucky to get 30 minutes a day" of practice.
A bit is better than nothing, and making reminders can help you do a little at a time. Miller says teenagers should write down their goals (目标) and post a note that asks, "What can I do today to make my goal a reality "
"It's just small steps along the way. It's not about doing it all at once," Miller says.
16. Why didn't Richie's writing make any progress though the year progressed

A repot on setting off fireworks in the Spring Festival
Recently students in our class have made a survey on people’s attitude towards setting off fireworks in the Spring Festival.
In the survey, 40% of them think that setting off fireworks causes air and noise pollution, and what’s worse, it sometimes causes terrible accidents to us and to our property. But 60% of the people believe that setting off fireworks certainly adds pleasure and joy to the festival. Therefore, it is a wonderful tradition.
From the survey, we can see that most people are for setting off fireworks in the Spring Festival. So I suggest that a certain area should be chosen for setting off fireworks.
