ProceduresStep one: Lead-in1. Daily greetings.2. Daily reports.Step two: Warming up1. Get the students to talk about our own country by asking them questions. e.g.: What’s the population of China 2. Show the class the map of China and have them talk about it in groups of four . Ask one student from each group to report what useful phrases his group have used in their talk.Step three: Listening 1. Play the tape for one time. Ask the students to complete the map with information from the tape.2. Play the tape again and choose the answers to complete the sentences.Step four: Speaking ( output )1. Get the students to list, in groups of four, the useful sentence patterns used to talk about directions and locations. 2. Get the students to read the sample dialogue so as to get ready for the dialogue production.3. Work in pairs. Talk about the birthplaces of your grandparents, parents and yourself.4. Encourage the students to act it out in front of the class.

Show the students sentences with the world “it” they have fond from the text and ask them what each it stands for.It is made up of two large islands: North Island and South Island.It is about the same size as Japan.It rains quite a lot.It is some 3,500 kilometers from Polynesia to New Zealand , which they t4aveled in marrow boats.It is every year on the sixth of February.It6 is a place where most of them have never been to.( If the students have difficulty in understanding how it is used, the teacher will help them.)2.Give the students some more examples of the word ”it”., and encourage the students to find out the rules on how “it” is used.(1) It is a good thing that New Zealand helps the Maori to keep their own language and culture.That New Zealand helps the Maori to keep their own language and culture is a good thing.(2)It is interesting to visit New Zealand.To visit New Zealand is quite interesting.Ask the students to study the two pairs and see how the word “it” is used and get the students to explain and, if possible, get one or two students to make a sentence.( Teacher explains: Here “it” is used in the subject position to stand for the infinitive or a clause.)(3) It was getting dark.
