Unit 14 Festivals Integrating skill
Teaching aims: 1. To get the Ss to know about the following Days: Earth Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Day of the Dead and Aril Fool’s Day.
2.To learn how to create a holiday festival
3.To prepare the Ss for writing an invitation.
4.To consolidate the usages and knowledge in the last period.
Teaching procedures:
Step one Revision
Show a picture on Kwanzaa on the screen. Ask questions on the festival:
What, when, who, how, why.
Step two Integrating skills
1. Show pictures on Days, have Ss guess What is the holiday (Day).
1. Describe April Fool’s Day as an example then ask Ss to read the short passage quickly to find one sentence to talk about the Days.
On April 1st , people in the world celebrate April Fool’s Day by playing tricks on each other for fun to improve their relationship.
1. Discuss the Days.
1) Do you have any experiences on April Fool’s Day If yes, let’s share it.
1) Is there any similar Days in China to the these days Give example.
Step three Learn more about festivals or holidays in China – Yuanxiao Festival and create festivals or holidays
1. Watch video and catch information from it.
1. Give two situations and do the task.
Situation one: Suppose you are a guide, you will introduce Chinese Lantern Festival to your visitors.
Situation two:
Student A a foreigner who wants to learn about Lantern Festival.
Student B: a high school student from Xiaoshan No. 5 High school, who will help SA
3. Fill the table and make sure Ss know the key information about Festivals

Step four. Write an invitation
1. How many ways to make an invitation ( show pictures on the screen, and make sure Ss learn the ways and know what we they will do.
1. Give a sample invitation letter and ask Ss to list the main points of letter to know what should be included in an invitation.
Dear Miriam,
Yuanxiao Festival is coming. We would like to invite you to a party at 5:30 p.m. on 15th of the first lunar month (Feb.5th).
A nice meal has been prepared in our house. Following the meal there will be a lanterns show
and puzzles solving in the yard. Of course, we will enjoy yuanxiao together.
Looking forward to you coming.
