4. careful reading to get the detailed information in the text

Teaching procedures:
Step1. Greeting and words competition
T: Good morning, boys and girls!
S: Good morning, Miss Cai.
T: Last period, I have asked you to recite the new words of this unit. Have you finished Now let’s do a words competition. First, look at the example: “money” we can use “cash” to replace it. Ok. Now let’s begin . I will judge which group will get the highest mark.
Step2: Lead-in and discussion
T: Well done. We are going to learn something about “Life in the future” Before we begin to read, let’s watch a flash work first. While you are watching, think about the following questions:
1) How did people live in the past
2) How do people live now
3) What will life be like in the future
(After watching, students begin to have a discussion in groups. Then teacher asks some students to talk about them.)
Step3 Skimming and Scanning
T: Very good. Now open your books at Page 43 reading . First of all, I will give you 2 minutes to skim the text and ply special attention to the title, subtitle, pictures then answer the question: How many life aspects are mentioned What are they
T: There are 4 . Transportation Business Health and medicine Education
T: Good. Now scan the text to find out in which paragraph you can find answers to the questions :
1) How will people shop in the future/
2) How will people travel in the future
3) What will schools be like in the future
4) What will the future be like in general
(Give students 4 minutes to scan the text and then check the answers with the whole class)
Step4 Fast reading
T: Well done. Now let’s read the text as fast as possible and do T or F exercises. First do it by yourself, then discuss then with your partner.
1) It is impossible to make forecast about future development.
2) The maglev train travels at an amazing 430 km/m.
3) People can combine shopping with fun in the future.
4) Smallpox can not be defeated.
5) We are sure that our efforts to improve the world will be successful.
(Give students 5-6 minutes to read the text and then check the answers with the whole class.)
Step5 Careful reading
T: Very good. After skimming, scanning, fast reading, you have a general idea of our text. Now let’s come to the details of the text. I will play the tape paragraph by paragraph for you. You should listen carefully and try to answer the questions I design for you . Are you clear

Step 6 Discussion
T: After careful reading , we have known the text much better. And there is a proverb that every coin has two sides. And what are the advantages of the future transportation, smart cards, on line shopping and e-school Are there any disadvantages Now please discuss it in groups of four. Are you clear
Ss: Yes.
T: now you can begin. If you have any problems, you can put up your hands and I will help you out. Now begin.
(Ask the students to have a discussion and then fill in the blankets)

Step7 Imagination
T: As Albert Einstein puts it that Imagination is more important than knowledge. Now it is time for you to imagine: In the year of 3000, the world will totally change with the development of new technologies. Many new inventions will be made. Imagine one day you are taking a time capsule and travel in the year of 3000. Describe one new invention you see.
(give students 3 minutes to make a new invention and then ask some of them to show their inventions)
Step 8 Summary and homework
T: today we have read a passage about life in the future. We have learned what will happen in the fields of transportation, business, health and education , education in the future. At the same time, we have also learned some useful words. After class, read the passage again until you can recite it. Besides don’t forget to find out the language points of the text. Step 9 Reflection after teaching
本节课容量大, 课堂设计合理。作为高中阅读课,能给学生较好的学法指导,提高学生的阅读能力。课堂问题设计得不错,但由于种种原因,诸如学生课前没做好预习,师生互动不好等导致课堂气愤比较沉闷。从这次公开课中,我发现了自己在教学中的不足,也从中体会了开好公开课的一些关键环节的重要性。
