Grammar Inversion (1)
I. Study the following sentences and generalize what type of inversion it is. Pay special attention to the words at the beginning and the verbs.

8. (作宾语的) 直接引语的一部分或全部放在句首,主语是名词时:

9. 以频度、方式状语开头的句子,多用倒装,但也可不用:
often, many a time, gladly等:

10. 以such开头的句子:

英语中有的让步状语从句可用as, though等引起的倒装结构表示, 其结构一般为
“形容词(副词,…) + as/ though + 主语 + 谓语”

III. The following passage contains a lot of inverted sentences. Try to find them out and give the normal order.
A Boy’s Experience in a Hospital
Never had John been seriously ill. Not only had he never had an operation, but also had never been in hospital for any illness. So little did he know about hospital, in fact , that when his mother went into one, he did not know about visiting hours, nor did he hear about hospital rules. So when he decided to visit here, he simply walked into her ward (病房) at 7 in the morning with a bottle of gin (杜松子酒). The nurses were dumbfounded (目瞪口呆) for a moment. Never before had they seen such a thing. So quickly did the nurse in charge of the ward act that , however, no harm was done. No sooner had she seen John than she grabbed (抓住) him. Preview work
I. Collect as many inverted sentences(倒装句)as possible that you have met before . Think about the normal order (正常的语序) of the sentences you collected.
e.g. Here comes the bus!

In this grammar lesson, teacher mainly use this teaching method: Teacher provides Ss with several groups of inverted sentences and the sentences in each group have something in common; Ss will study these sentences and then generalize about the different rules of inversion ; After generalizing, students will use inversion to make up sentences or do some other exercises.
The abbreviation is R-G-C-A-C, that is to say, Recalling; Generalization, Consolidation, Appreciation and Creation,.

Step I. Full inversion (1)
①. Recalling : Let the students give some inverted sentences they’ve met before.
②. Generalization (Part1):
Ss study the difference among the following sentences provided by teacher and generalize about the two important types of inversion. ( slide )

Ss study more sentences provided by teacher and generalize about

Step Ⅷ. Some special rules of inversion:
①Generalization: Teacher provide four groups of sentences for Ss to study; Ss try to tell which sentence is right and generalize in what special situations inversion is not necessary. ( slide )

Step Ⅸ: Competition
Let Ss have a competition in doing the multiple choices in NMET related to inversion, that is, students will be divided into four groups and the student who stands up first and give the right answer will get marks for his group.
