■Why pencils are yellow
Pencils have been painted yellow ever since the 1890s.
And that bright color isn't just so you can find them on your desk more easily!
During the 1800s, the best graphite in the world came from China. American pencil makers wanted a special way to tell people that their pencils contained Chinese graphite.
In China, the color yellow is associated with royalty and respect. American pencil manufacturers began painting their pencils bright yellow to communicate this "regal" feeling and association with China.
The rest, as they say, is history. Today, 75%of the pencils sold in the United States are painted yellow!
■One of my first inventions!
I invented this in 7th grade. It is not a pencil, but a "minimalist" pen. It consists simply of a pen refill with a paper clip stuck in one end, which serves as the pen clip. Unfortunately my English teacher saw me fooling around with it too much, laughed at it and then took it away. I tell my students this discouraging story, how I felt, and that I would never laugh at their inventions like this teacher did.
I then ask "Could you have invented these What ideas do you have for a new pencil. , the younger the student, the more creative they are, because the lack of the ability to judge, is the basis of creativity!

III.Grammar studies
如果主语是this或that, 则将be动词(am, is或 are)放在this或that的前面,后面加问号,这样就构成了一般疑问句。 肯定回答用“Yes, it is”,否定回答用“No, it isn’t”。如:
1)—Is this a pen
—Yes, it is. (= Yes, it’s a pen.)
—No, it isn’t. (= No, it’s not/it isn’t a pen.)
2)—Is that your desk
—Yes, it is. (= Yes, it’s my desk.)
—No, it isn’t. (= No, it’s not/it isn’t my desk.)
[注] it is可缩写为it’s,但在简略形式的肯定回答中it is不能缩写为it’s。
[注] it is not可缩写为it’s not 或it isn’t。在简略形式的否定回答中,常用it isn’t或it’s not, 而不用it is not。
[注] that is可缩写为that’s, 但this is 不能缩写。
其构成是将疑问词放在句首,然后用be动词(am, is, are),再加上主语this, that, you等。
3)—What’s this 这是什么?
—It’s a clock.
—What’s that 那是什么?
—It’s a map.
2.Excuse me 和Sorry
1) Excuse me. Are you Mr Green
2) Excuse me. Can you spell it, pelase
3) —Are you Li Ping
—No, I’m not.
—Sorry.
4) —Can you spell the word
—Sorry, I can’t.
3.Yes, thank you.
Thanks. / Thanks a lot./ Thanks very much. That’s OK./ That’s all right. / You’re welcome./ It’s a pleasure. / Not at all.
4.How do you spell it 它怎么拼写?
How do you know that 你怎么知道的?
How old is your sister
How do you like China?
