Unit12 Don’t eat in class

Language goal: Talk about rules.
1. Can we eat in school
2. We can eat in the dining hall, but we can’t eat in the classroom.
3. Can students wear hats in school Yes, they can./ No, they can’t.
4. What are the rules at your school
Step 1.Presentation
Show some signs to the Ss and ask, “What do they mean ” Say“All of them are rules”. Teach “ruler’. Let Ss repeat .Ask a student “Do you like music Can you sing pop songs ”(The student answers)“But can you listen to music in class ”(The student answers)“Don’t listen to music in class. It’s a rule. Today we are going to talk about the school rules ”
Step2. Key vocabulary
1.SB Page71,1a. Read the five rules to the class, and explain in simple words, or use body language to make Ss understand the meaning of each rule.
2.Read the rulers again, let Ss repeat.
3.Talk about the picture. Say “Which rules are these students breaking Look at the boy. What’s he doing Can he listen to music in the classroom ” Write the number of the rule next to the student. Then check the answers.
4.Ask different students to say the rulers that the students are breaking in the picture.
Step3.Lestening
1. Listen to the tape ,do 1b. Listen and write the numbers after the names. Then check the answers
2. Listen and repeat after the tape sentence by sentence.
Step 4.Presnetation and talking
1. We can say these school rules in another way..
“Don’t arrive late for class. We can say. You can’t arrive late for class. Don’t run in the hallways, we can say, you can’t run in the hallways’. Let Ss say the other rules in another way, using “You can’t…”
2. Let Ss working in pairs first, then do a chain work like 1c
Step5.Listen and talk
1. Talk about the picture in 2a. Do 2a. Explain “dining hall”, “outside” to Ss. Let Ss repeat.
2. Listen again do 2B.
3. Ss work in pairs like 2c. Talk bout the school rules.
4. Ask several pairs to share their conversations with the whole class.
Period Two
Aim:Make rules
Language focus:
1.Do you have to ...at school Yes, we do./ No, we don’t
2..Can Ss eat in the hallway Yes, they can.
Step 1:Revision and lead-in
1.Talk about some signs that students collected after class. And ask:“What are the rules at our school ”Let Ss say the school rules as many as they can.
2.Do a chain work,talk about the school rules, drill the pattern:
T: Can you arrive late for class
Sa: No, we can't.(ask B) Can you fight
Sb: No,we can't.(ask C) Can you listen to music in the music room
Sc:Yes, we can.(ask D) Can you …
Step 2:Presentation and practice
1.“Do you like to wear the school clothes every day No, you don’t. But you have to wear the school clothes on Monday.” Let Ss guess the meaning “have to”
2.Ask “Do you have to listen to music in the music room (Yes, we do) Do you have to wear your uniform at home (No, we don;’t) ” Then do a chain work, drill the pattern.
Step3:Key vocabulary
3a:Talk about the pictures. Fill in the blanks.
Step4. Practice
Ask Ss to read the conversation in 3b. and let them work in pairs make similar conversations. Then ask several pairs to share their conversations with the whole class.
Step5:Make rules
Make a list of six rules. Use “can” and “have to” in the rulers. Put the rules in a bag, and take a different set of rules out. Then find the student who wrote these rules
Period Three
Aim: Make the family rules
Language focus:
Don’t go out on school night.
I have to be in bed by ten o’clock.
I can’t watch TV on school nights.
Pre-task:
There are many rules at our school. There are full of rules in our life. What do you have to do after school Can you watch TV Can you go out every night Today let’s talk about rules at home
Tasks
1. Look at the pictures of SB Page74,1. Talk about them. Then match the pictures with the rules.
2. Listening: Listen to the tape, do 2a, 2b.
3. Reading: Let Ss read Zhao Pel’s letter and find out why she is unhappy. Read again, and guess the meaning of new words and expressions: be in bed by ten o’clock, wash my clothes, etc. Ask “How many rules does she have in her house What are these rules ” Ss resd and write the rules down alone.
4:Write about the rulers in your house
5:List the rules of the Fraser family(Page76,3). Then imagine you are a child in the Fraser family. Write a better to Dr Know about the rules in your house.
6.A letter to parents
“Do you have family rules Who made the rules What do you think of the rules Do you want to make some rules for your parents Ss work in groups discuss their own family rules and the rules for parents. After finishing it, share their ideas with the whole class. Then write a letter to their parents, let parents know the children’s opinions.
