Step 1 Greetings and lead-in
T: The Spring Festival has just gone by. Did you have a good time
T: We all know that the Spring Festival is the most important and greatest festival to our Chinese people. And we also know that there are some other important festivals in our country. Can you tell me the name of them
Ss: Yes, There are Lantern Festival, the Dragon Boat Festival, Tomb sweeping Day,
Mid-autumn Day, New Year’s Day, May 1st, National Day…
T: How do our Chinese people celebrate the Spring Festival
Ss: 1. Before the Spring Festival, we clean our houses , decorate our rooms and put red spring couplets on our doors and walls. Most people do Spring Festival shopping, we buy a lot of things such as new clothes, shoes, food etc.
2. On the eve of the Spring Festival, every member is present at the Family reunion dinner. Traditional holiday food is served, such as whole chicken symbolizing family reunion and whole fish representing surplus in family income.
Children are very happy to get lucky money from their parents and relatives.
3. On New year’s Day, we begin to visit our close friends and relatives. It is traditional for married people to visit their parents first.
T: There are many important and interesting activities in Spring Festival, Can you
tell me some of them
SS: Yes, there are many gala performances here and there. Many wonderful traditional programs are performed, such as the dragon and lion dance, walking on stilts, acrobatic show. We can light fireworks and firecrackers. We can see many red lanterns along the streets or in kinds of supermarkets etc.
