2. enemy (c.n.) 敌人，有害之物
Cancer is an enemy to mankind.
the enemy “敌军，敌兵”, 是集体名词，
常作单数。但如果强调个体，就应该用
复数形式。类似的还有 family, class,
team, group等。

3. as a result “结果，因此”
是用来表示因果关系的一个常用词组，作状语。其结构：A句(陈述事件）+ As a result, + B 句(该事件导致的结果）
注意：as a result不是一个连词
He didn’t work hard. As a result,
he failed in the exam.
He slipped and broke his leg. As
a result, he will have to be away
from school.as a result of sth.“由于…的原因”
是一个介词短语，只能连接n. / pron./
v-ing / what 从句, 后面所接是事件原因。

*without result 毫无结果，徒劳4. die out (动、植物物种）灭绝；
（风俗、习惯等）逐渐消失;（火）熄灭

10. in danger 垂危，处于危险中

*dangerous( adj.) 本身具有危险性

其它danger 短语：

*endanger (v) 危及，使…有危险
