( A )
Five years ago, David Smith wore an expensive suit to work every day. “I was a clothes addict (有瘾的人)”he jokes. “I used to carry a fresh suit to work with me so I could change if my clothes got wrinkled.” Today David wears casual clothes----khaki pants and a sports shirt----to the office. He hardly ever wears a necktie. “I am working harder than ever.” David says, “and I need to feel comfortable.”
More and more companies are allowing their office workers to wear casual clothes to work. In the United States, the change from formal to casual(休闲的) office wear has been gradual. In the early 1990s, many companies allowed their employees to wear casual clothes on Friday(but only on Friday). This became known as “dress-down Friday” or “casual Friday”. “What started out as an extra one-day-a-week benefit for employees has really become an everyday thing.” said business consultant Maisly Jones.
Why have so many companies started allowing their employees to wear casual clothes One reason is that it’s easier for a company to attract new employees if it has a casual dress code.” “A lot of young people don’t want to dress up for work,” says the owner of a software company, “so it’s hard to hire people if you have a conservative(保守的)dress code.” Another reason is that people seem happier and more productive when they are wearing comfortable clothes. In a study conducted by Levi Strauss and Company, 85 percent of employers said that they believe that casual dress improves employee morale(心境,士气). Only 4 percent of employers said that casual dress has a negative influence on productivity. Supporters of casual office wear also argue that a casual dress code helps them save money. “Suits are expensive, if you have to wear one every day,” one person said. “For the same amount of money, you can buy a lot more casual clothes.”

B.Dress-down has become an everyday phenomenon since the early 90s.
C.“Dress-down Friday” was first given as a favor from employers.
D.Many workers want to wear casual clothes to impress people.
(B)
In the United States, friends can be close, constant, intense, generous, and real, yet fade away in a short time if circumstances(环境)change. Neither side feels hurt by this. Both may exchange Christmas greetings for a year or two, perhaps a few letters for a while then no more. If the same two people meet again by chance, even years later, they pick up the friendship where it left out and are delighted.
In the States, you can feel free to visit people’s homes, share their holidays, enjoy their children and their lies without fear that you taking on a lasting obligation(负担). Do not hesitate to accept hospitality(款待)because you can’t give it in … welcome or for various other reasons, such as crowded space, language difficulties, or family custom, outsiders are not invited into homes.
In the United States both methods are used, but it is often considered more friendly to invite a person to one’s home than to go to a public place, except in purely business relationships. So, if your host or hostess brings you home, do not feel that you are being shown inferior(次的)treatment.
Don’t feel neglected if you do not find flowers awaiting you in your hotel room either. Flowers are very expensive there, hotel delivery is uncertain, arrival times are delayed, changed, or canceled so flowers are not customarily sent as a welcoming touch. Please do not feel unwanted! Outward signs vary in different lands, the inward welcome is what matters, and this will be real.

Immediately I got up and dressed, stuck my violin under my jacket, and went out into the streets to try my luck. I wandered about for an hour, looking for a likely spot, feeling as though I were about to trust a crime. Then I stopped at last under a bridge near the station and decided to have a try.
I felt tense and nervous. One moment I was part of the hurrying crowds, the next I stood apart, my back to the wall, my hat on the pavement before me, the violin under my chin.
The first notes I played were loud and raw, then they settled down and began to run more smoothly. To my surprise I was neither caught nor told to shut up. Indeed, nobody took any notice at all. Then an old man without stopping secretly threw a penny into my hat, as if getting rid of some guilty evidence.
Other pennies followed, slowly but steadily, dropped by shadows who appeared not to see or hear me. It seemed too easy, like a secret trick.
I worked there for several days, gradually getting the truths of the trade by trial and error(反复试验).It was not a good thing, for example, to let the hat fill up with money; nor was it wise to empty it completely. Placing a couple of pennies in the hat to start the thing going soon became a regular rule.
59.When he first began to play the violin, he expected .
A.to get into trouble B.to play better than he did
C.people to stop and listen to him D.to be told to move somewhere else
60.The first man who gave him money .

C.dropped the money by mistake D.did not want to attract attention
61.He gradually became confident that day because .
A.nobody looked at him B.he played the violin very well
C.people continued to give him money D.he earned a lot of money
62.On the following days, he .
A.made a lot of mistakes B.learned how to do the job better
C.get better at playing the violin D.did not make so much money

There are three branches of medicine. One is called “doctor medicine,” or “scientific medicine.” Scientific doctors try to observe sicknesses, look for logical patterns, and then find out how the human body works. From there they figure out what treatments may work. This kind of medicine is believed to date from the 4th century BC. Although nowadays it is successful, in the ancient world this method probably did not cure many patients.
A second kind of medicine is called “natural cures”, or “folk medicine”, in which less educated people try to cure sicknesses with various herbs(中草药). These folk healers also use observation and logic, but they are not so aware of it. They try things until they find something that seems to work, and then they keep doing that. Folk medicine became popular long before the development of scientific medicine and was more successful in ancient times than doctor medicine.
The third kind is called “health spas”, or “faith healing”. Sometimes this may be as simple as touching the holy(圣洁的) man and being immediately healed(治愈). Other times, a magician may make you a magic charm, or say a spell, to cure you. Some religious groups organize special healing shrines for the sick. In these places people rest, get plenty of sleep, eat healthy food, drink water instead of wine, and exercise in various ways. They also talk to the priests(牧师) and pray to the gods. If you are feeling depressed or you have been working too hard, going to these places may be just the right thing to make you feel better.

完形:
37. D。从后面的"so I...to sit at."
sit at the table意思是"坐在桌子旁边";其余三项都不能与at搭配。
45. A。at the front page of the newspaper
所以用"what was worse"来描绘。
