Recently we have been watching a TV series broadcast by a local television station. It is very interesting and we enjoy watching it very much.
Unfortunately, one day we were attentively watching the programme, completely absorbed in the breathtaking adventures of the hero and guessing what would happen next when suddenly the programme was interrupted by advertisements. We were all very annoyed about this. What an irritation!
In this material world, enterprises need to make their products known to the public so that people can buy their products. At the same time, TV stations need to broadcast commercials to cover their own expenses. Broadcasting advertisements is an important way which will benefit the both sides. But I don’t think it a very wise idea to wedge advertisements into the middle of a TV programme. This will do great harm to the audiences.
The advertisement law was proclaimed not long ago. It states clearly that it is illegal to insert any advertisement during the showing of a programme. Every TV station should abide strictly by this law. But some TV stations just ignore this and pursue their own economic interests.
Moreover., the commercials can hardly have the desired effect. By being shown illegally, they are interrupting the programme and this will lead the audience to feel annoyed and disgusted with the product being advertised even if they have paid attention to it.
Personally I don't mind watching TV advertisements. In fact, some of them are very interesting. I just think that the TV station should arrange the advertisements in the correct way. The interests of their audience should be their priority.
56.One day the writer was watching an interesting TV film when _____.
someone knocked at the door
the TV set was broken down
some advertisements interrupted the programme
the local television station went wrong
57.Which of the following is correct according to the article?
A.The writer complained only the local television station.
B.What the writer described not only happened in a local station.
C.The writer loved the hero very much
D.The writer couldn’t guess what happened to the hero next.
58.Advertisements can _______.
A.make products known to general public
B.bring TV stations, Radio stations and newspaper a lot of money
C.also help enterprises get economic interests
D.All the above are correct
59.The writer _______.
A.hates the advertisements on TV
B.likes the advertisements on TV but not at the time he watches TV program
C.didn’t want the TV station to telecast advertisements
D.wanted to make a suggestion that TV station telecast at a more suitable time
60.If the advertisements telecast ______.
A.at the wrong moment they can’t achieve the desired effect
B.at the right moment TV viewers will dislike them
C.at the beginning of a programme they have the desired effect
D.at the end of the programme they will be liked by TV viewers

Mr Richards worked in a shop which sold, cleaned and repaired hearing-aids (助听器). One day an old gentleman entered and put one down in front of him without saying a word.
“What’s the matter with it? ”Mr Richards said. The man did not answer. Of course Mr Richards thought that the man must be deaf and that his hearing-aid must be faulty, so he said again, more loudly,“ What’s wrong with your hearing-aid, sir?” Again the man said nothing, so Mr Richards shouted his question again as loudly as he could.
The man then took a pen and a piece of paper and wrote: “It is not necessary to shout when you’re speaking to me . My ears are as good as yours. This hearing-aid is my wife’s, not mine. I’ve just had a throat operation, and my problem is not that I can’t hear, but that I can’t speak.”

Besides oil and gas, the sea may offer new sources of energy. 69 Ocean currents and waves offer possible use as a source of energy such as hydro-electric power.
Technology is enabling man to explore even deeper under the sea. The new under-sea technology is providing divers with diving suits and under-sea chambers that are kept at sea-level pressure. 70
The technology to harvest the sea continues to improve. By the year 2010, experts believe that the problems to explore the food, minerals and energy sources of the sea will be largely solved.
A. In the modem technological world, the sea offers many resources to help mankind survive.
B. The sea is wide and rich, and it's also a place where life begins.
C. The development of strong new materials has made this possible.
D. Man is a land animal, but it is also closely tied to the sea.
