The finish of the men’s marathon at Panathinaiko Stadium, followed by the traditional parade of athletes under the sweeping roof of the new Olympic Stadium, crowned 16 days of competition, which were marked by moments of individual triumph and a record-breaking numbers of athletes thrown out on doping charges(服用禁药).

Read Teens for information and enjoyment
(1)Begin with your favorites
When you get an issue of 21st Century Teens ,first look at the front page to see what is in the week’s paper. Then quickly look through all the headlines and the smiling faces under them to decide which stories both interest you most and suit your level .You will see what you really want to read and so you will learn English without being aware of it .To gain knowledge through English is the best way to learn English ,as Xu Guozhang, a famous linguist(语言学家) says.
(2)Treat different stories differently
Read the stories that you are not so interested in later ,when you have time .For these stories, you do not need to read as carefully as the ones mentioned above. As long as you get the general idea ,that’s enough.
(3)How to deal with difficult stories
There may be a few stories that have too many difficult words and do not interest you at all .It would be better to leave them until your English level has improved.
(4)Read for fluency(流畅)
Reading Teens for this purpose helps you develop reading fluency .This means you should focus on getting the main idea of what you are reading without slowing down or stopping to look up words in the dictionary .So when you come to difficult words ,do not stop if you have no trouble understanding the sentence .If you have no trouble understanding the paragraph, then you need not pay attention to a difficult sentence in it.
(5)Read regularly and widely
Reading Teens for this purpose means you should read as much of the newspaper as possible and develop it into a habit to get the most benefit from it .You should not leave the easier stories out .The easier the articles ,the faster and more you can read .Through a large amount of reading ,you can effectively increase your language sense and so improve your language ability.
45.What’s the writer’s purpose of writing this passage?
A. To tell the students the way to learn English well
B. To tell the readers the way to read 21st Century Teens
C. To tell the readers how to deal with difficult stories
D. To tell the readers how to treat different stories.
46.What is the best way mentioned in the passage to learn English?
A. To learn from the best English teachers.
B. To remember many English words.
C.To gain knowledge through English.
D.To read 21st Century Teens loudly
47.Which statement is TRUE according to the passage?

There is no doubt that adults ,and even highly educated adults ,vary greatly in the speed and efficiency (效率) of their reading .Some proceed very slowly throughout;others dash along too quickly and then have to regress(退回). Poor readers in particular may lack the ability to vary their manner of reading according to the type of reading matter and to their intentions in reading it .A good reader can move at a great speed through the text of a novel or similar light reading matter. He may be able to skim a page, picking up a word or two here and there ,and gain a general idea of what the text is about without really reading it . In reading more difficult material , with the intention of taking in the whole of it, he will proceed more slowly ,but even then he will vary his pace, concentrating(集中)on the key words and passages ,perhaps rereading them several times and pass more quickly over the remainder .A less efficient reader tends to maintain the same speed whatever the material he reads. Therefore, even light reading matter gives him little pleasure because he reads so slowly .But this pace may be too fast for really difficult material which requires special concentration at difficult points.
A type of reading which needs careful attention to detail is proofreading (校对),in which the reader, in order to detect misprints in a sample print ,has to notice not so much the meaning of what he reads as the exact shape and order of letters and words in the text. This is extremely difficult for most people, since they are used to ignoring such details. In fact, considerable practice is required to practise this task efficiently and it can be done only by reading very slowly ,and by paying comparatively little attention to the general meaning of the text.
48.A good reader is a reader who____.
A.concentrates on the wonderful part of the article

We often hear the phrase :“You’ve a greater chance of being struck by lightning.”It is used to describe something that hasn’t got much chance of happening. However, the common saying undermines the very real dangers of lightning.
Last Friday ,at least 5 people were killed by lightning in Nepal.
Lightning strikes are the second most common cause of deaths during natural disasters in the US.The first is floods .Around 400people nationwide are struck by lightning each year ,and of those, 73 people die .That’s more people killed by lightning than by tornadoes and hurricanes.
Because lightning kills only one or two people at a time ,its danger does not receive as much attention as other disasters.
So to raise awareness ,the US has made June22-28 National Lightning Safety Week .It aims to warn the public of the dangers of lightning and provide safety tips during thunderstorms.
“If you hear thunder ,you are in danger from lightning ,”said Rocky Lopes ,a disaster educator at the American Red Cross.
“Thunder means that lightning is close enough to hit you at any minute, so you should move indoors immediately and stay there until after the storm has ended .The single most important thing to remember is to seek hiding place,”Lopes said.
Summer is the high time for lightning storms ,so when lightning strikes across the sky ,remember these safety tips:
Stop working ,fishing ,swimming or playing in open fields.
If you can count less than ten seconds between a thunder and a lightning flash, take cover inside the nearest building.
Do not stand under a tree.
Get off bicycles and motorcycles.
Crouch down(蹲下)if there is no hiding place.
Avoid open spaces ,wire fences ,metal objects and electrical objects such as hair driers.
57.The popular opinion about being struck by lightning is that______.
A.there is a greater chance for being killed by lightning than any other natural disaster
B.it is the most dangerous among all the natural disasters
C.the chance for a person to be struck by lightning is very small
D.it is impossible for people to be killed by lightning
58.The average death rate of being struck by lightning in US is about ______.
A.18% B.50% C.30% D.73%
59.Among all the safety tips ,the most important one is that when you hear thunder in the open air______.
A.just stand by your bicycles and motorcycles
B.quickly find a place to go inside
C.count ten seconds between a thunder and a lightning
D.don’t have a hair drier in your hand
60.According to the passage, which of the following is TRUE?
A.There are more people killed by tornadoes and hurricanes than by lightning in US each year.

Dear Tom,
It is great to receive your email. Now I’d like to tell you something that took place in my school yesterday .
In the afternoon we held a grown-up ceremony for our coming 18-year-old birthday .At first we made an oath that as grown-ups we should have a sense of duty for our society from now on .Then we showed our thanks to our parents who had gone through hardships to bring us up and teachers who have keen educating us patiently .And our teachers also gave us cards expressing their good wishes to us. Finally, we put on wonderful performances, singing and dancing. We learned a lot from the activity .I think it’s very important for us . I will never forget the day in my life.
Yours
