A
I really hadn’t meant to yell(吼叫)at them. But that grey afternoon saw it just as my son and daughter were making a terrible mess on the floor in the kitchen.
With a tiresome report to write,I felt bothered at my desk.Suddenly, it occurred to me that my kids were at fault.A voice inside me insisted that I do something quickly.
“OK,you two here, but what an awful thing you are attempting!”shouting angrily.I made for them, while it became evident that the boy wanted no part of me.“Get away from us!”he shouted back.there being expression of support from his sister.
All of a sudden,I found the fault in myself.Quickly I shaped my hands into pincers(螃蟹螯)and crawled towards them,“Crabby(似螃蟹的)Daddy is here.Ha,Ha,Ha,he likes to yell at children, and then eat them!” My son continued to keep me away, but now he was laughing and crying at the same time.My mission to repair the damage caused by my yelling seemed to work well.Still,I regretted not having controlled myself first in a right way that my children could do after.
Need I let them know how badly they were acting by blaming? This is a lesson that serves myself. It only shows just how to get rid of something (ill-feelings, responsibility. . . ) by blaming others. It’s not my “best self”.
We have to search for our“best self”when with our children. They don’t need perfect parents, but they do need parents who are always trying to get better. Here,I’m reminded of the words of a great thinker.“When a man lives with God,his voice shall be as sweet as the murmur of the brook…”Then,in our lifetime.couldn’t we always speak to our kids in such a sweet voice since most of us consider them as the most precious in the world? And before we reach this level, what should we do when we come across various difficult cases with our children?
41. The author couldn’t help yelling at his kids this time probably because______.
A. the weather was so unpleasant B. he was tired of his boring work
C. the kids didn’t ask him to join them D. a Daddy has his right to do so
42. Which of the following made the author aware of his fault?
A. No obvious reason. B. The boy’s yelling back.
C. His self-awareness. D. The girl’s expression.
43. According to the passage, the author will ______ in another similar situation.
A. play a crab again like this time B. apologize to kids in a sincere way
C. avoid blaming kids in a hurry D. beat them up about such things
44. What will the writer go on to write about in the next paragraph(s)?
A. How to behave ourselves properly when kids are at fault.
B. How to blame our children in a more interesting way.
C. How to deal with the terrible mess made by our kids.
D. How to persuade children to do what they are told to.

“Football is a very short—term career.Football really prepares you for almost nothing. The only thing I got out of football was the ability to work hard,”says Gales Sayers. So what do you do after your glory days on the field are over? Sayers couldn’t outrun the injuries, though, and another blow to his knee put an end to his football career in 1971.His personal life was unfortunate as well,as he and his wife,Linda, split that year.Shortly after that.Sayers started a new life and career as an assistant athletic director in the University of Kansas.By 1976 he was moving up the ladder at Southern Illinois University, becoming the first African-American athletic director at a major university.
Sayers, the youngest player to be ever listed into the National Football League’s Hall of Fame, started a computer supplies company in 1984 with his second wife,Ardie, whom he married in 1973.The couple was looking for a field with a future, and computers seemed to have it all.Seventeen years later, the company that bears his name is a national provider of technology solutions, with 10 locations and over 350 employees across the country.Just like in the old days, the honors started rolling in.Sayers was listed into the Chicago Area Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame in 1999.

New survey It is official;the English language has become increasingly varied.BBC Voices,a survey involving 32,000 people, has discovered lots of new words. There had been concerns that regional dialects(方言)were dying out and Americanization was taken over-happily that isn’t true!
Varied words A similar survey in the 1950s found that there were 84 different regional expressions for left-handed but now there are 240.These range from cuddy-wifter in Northumbria,molly-dukered in central Scotland, gammy in Cumbria to keggy in the east Midlands.
New Cockney(新伦敦腔)Reasoning is twofold:people move about the country a lot more than in previous years and the UK has become increasingly multicultural.Study of the Cockney language has found that due to the influx(涌入)of Bangladeshi immigrants(孟加拉移民)in London’s east part, words and accents have both changed.Original Cockney has been replaced by a mixed English of Bangladeshi and British English. However, this not only happens to London. In Liverpool,a mixture of Caribbean-Scouse is becoming common,as is Cardiff-Hindi in Wales.
New slangs Cockney slang is also keeping up with the times.Britney Spears is a new term for beer, and Becks and Posh for nosh(a kind of snack food).A top DJ has even inspired the title of a new film-It’s all gone Pete Tong for“It’s all gone wrong”.
Language changes all the time, whether it is inspired by other parts of the world. We never know what we may be saying next!
49. According to the new survey, people find that______.
A. BBC Voices has lots of new words B. regional dialects are dying out
C. American English is taking over D. English has become various
50. Why did the author take“left-handed”for example?
A. To show the differences between different dialects.
B. To give many examples of the regional expressions.
C. To support the idea that dialects are not dying out.
D. To present the result of the survey in the 1950s.
51. The mixture of languages is the result of______.
A. people’s moving frequently B. Bangladeshi immigrants in London
C. the UK’s multicultural background D. New Cockney replacing Original Cockney
52. The best title of the passage might be______.
A. English Words under Change B. Language and Culture
C. About Future Languages D. Words and Immigrants

With mobile phones becoming a fashion item, rapid advances in new technology offer constant upgrades(升级),and mobile phones are being deserted more and more quickly. There is pressure on manufacturers to recycle the used phones, which has been estimated in Europe to cost over 1 00 million a year! Shoppers are also looking to more environmentally friendly purchases.
Researchers at Warwick University, together with hi-tech materials company PVA Research and Development Ltd,have been working on a solution.Dr Kerry Kirwan, who is leading the team, said,“We have looked at the plastic covers and looked at the ways we can reduce the environmental effect to the lowest level.”
They have developed a mobile phone cover that can be placed in compost(混合肥料),a flower coming out weeks later. The cover is made from a biodegradable polymer(可生物降解的聚合物),which biodegrades easily in compost. The seed is behind a small window and buyers can see it,but it doesn’t start growing until it’s planted.
Dr Kirwan explained,“The seed is released and starts growing in the pot.Nowadays only sunflowers come out of the covers, but one day you can choose the flower of your choice.”
There are other current phone recycling plans. The Body Shop is transforming phones into
personal alarms for women under the threat of violence.Donate an old mobile to Oxfam and it will be worth£5 or more.or enough to buy a mosquito net to protect against some diseases.

Altogether the volunteers recorded 433 unintentional actions that they found themselves doing-an average of twelve each. There appear to be peak periods(高峰期)in the day when people are most absent-minded.These are two hours, some time between eight a.m.and noon, between four and six P. m. with a smaller peak between eight and ten p.m.“Among men the peak seems to be when a changeover in brain’ programmes’ occurs.as for example between going to and from work.”

Hi、Li Ming,
A11 the three things.I think.are very proper gifts for Jack.but among them the first choice should be the set of Friendlies. The very reason is that they are the mascots of Beijing Olympic Games in 2008.And each of them looks so lovely.Their names, colors and so on can tell us many things,of which the most important is the kindness from the Chinese people. And they must be most acceptable Chinese gifts in recent years.
Next,in my opinion, comes this Chinese knot.Which is so beautiful that one may not tear
oneself away at the first sight of it.Chinese knots are our folk-art-works with a long history.Being a style of our traditional culture, they are enjoyed by people at home and abroad.People often use
them as gifts to express their friendship and good wishes to their relatives and friends.
Lungching tea is also a very nice choice. It comes from the beautiful West Lake in Hangzhou. To be the number-one green tea in China.it is well known all over the world for centuries. It has a very nice smell and drinking it daily will surely do much good to health. So foreigners have always liked Lungching tea.
Yours,
Wang Hua
