Module Two No Drugs
My name is Adam Rouse. I’m 19 years old and I used to be a drug addict. I first started using drugs when I was 15. I bought cannabis from a man in the street. I continued to buy cannabis from the same man for about six months. One day, he offered me some crack cocaine.
Article 2
Cocaine is a powerful addictive drug. Some drug users inject cocaine, others smoke it. Both ways are dangerous. Users who inject the drug are also in more danger if they share needles with other users.

Crack cocaine is the most addictive form of cocaine much more easily if they smoke it. Smoking allows cocaine to reach the brain very quickly.

When I went back to the man again, I wanted more crack cocaine. But he asked me for a lot of money. I didn’t have enough money so he didn’t give me any drugs I was in terrible pain.

The next day, I broke into a house and stole a television and a video recorder. I took them to the drug dealer. He told me to take them to a shop in a nearby street. The man in the shop gave me some money. I took the money to the drug dealer and he gave me some more crack cocaine.

Using cocaine increases the user’s heart rate and blood pressure. As a result, cocaine users sometimes have heart attacks. Smoking crack cocaine also causes anti-social behavior.

By this time, I was addicted to crack cocaine. If I didn’t have any drugs, I was in terrible pain. And I had to steal something every day to pay for the drugs. One day, the police took me to the police station.

The next day, a doctor came to see me. He told me that I could die if I didn’t stop taking crack cocaine, so I took his advice and stopped immediately. Now I work in a centre for drug addicts, helping others to stop taking drugs.
教学过程:
1.导入:有棵苹果树可以预测每个人的未来,每个人都有美好的未来,但是,有种东西可以毁掉人的未来,那就是---毒品。
2.课上任务:
1) 看图片简要了解毒品的种类。
2) Scan(跳读)Article 1,迅速找出文中提到的毒品名称。
3) Skim(略读)parts1-6, 看哪些段落属于Article 1。
4) 听课文录音,为文章选出最佳题目。
5) 通过问答问题了解课文内容。
6) 回顾Adam四年来的吸毒,戒毒经历,找出这些主要事件间的因果关系。并学习用“as a result”表达因果联系。
3.读后任务:
1) 学生可从下列三个任务中选择一个,并在课上展示。
a. 将课文改写成剧本并表演;
b. 讨论毒品的危害
c. 用英语写一则禁毒的公益广告。
2) 宣誓仪式:Keep away from drugs. Value our life.
(远离毒品,珍爱生命。)
3) 欣赏歌曲“Heal the world”, 在歌曲中体会为将世界变得更加美好(没有战争,没有毒品,没有犯罪),我们所应尽的责任和义务。
4.作业:写一篇题为“毒品的危害”的作文。
1. Lead in: Show the students a picture of an apple tree. Each apple predicts what we will be in the future. But there is something in the world that can destroy our bright future completely in a very short time. What is it It is the drug.
2. While-task:
1) Learn to know some different kinds of drugs.
2) Scan the opening paragraph to see which of the drugs you can find in the paragraph.

3) Skim parts 1-6 on page 13 and decide which of these parts belong to Article 1 and what the right order is.

4) Listen to the whole passage and tick the topic of the passage:

6) Help the students go through Adam’s story and go over all the main events that have happened to Adam in the past four years. These events are relevant. One event often gives rise to another, or one event is often another’s result.

3. Post-task: Since we have known the great harm that drugs do to us, we should try our best to help to prevent drugs. Here are three tasks for you.
Task 1: Change the story into a play and act it out in front of the class.
Task 2: Make up a dialogue or give a speech on the great harm that drugs do to us. (Show some pictures to help.)
Task 3: Make a commonweal advertisement on banning drugs in English. (Show some commonweal advertisement in Chinese as example.)
1) Present the tasks.
2) Vow: Keep away from drugs. Value our life.
3) Enjoy the song “ Heal the world”.
4. Homework: Write a composition about the great harm that drugs do to people.
