I．The General Idea of This Period.
In this period students can read two emails whose topic is “Dying to be thin---” and learn Army’s story about failing weight-loss. By reading, Students can improve their abilities of reading and understanding. By doing the given exercises and discussing related questions, Students can understand the emails further and the relation between good-look and health.
II．Teaching Aim:
Make students pay attention to their health and finish reading.
III．Teaching Important Points:
1. Train the students’abilities of speaking, reading and thinking in English.
2. Help the students understand how to be healthy and have a right attitude to what is beauty and the problem about losing weight.
IV．Teaching Difficult Points:
Read the passage and finish the task.
V．Teaching Methods:
1．The competition through the whole class to arouse the students’ interest in class activities.
2. Doing the given exercises to help students understand the reading further.

VII．Teaching Procedures:
Step One. Lead-in
1. Get the Students to find why some people are fat.
2. Encourage the students to give the fat some advice to lose weight.
Step Two. Reading.
1. Choose two students to read the emails while the others repeat in a low voice .
2. Get the students to answer the questions in Part A and guess the meaning of “ Dying to be thin---” .
3. Do the given exercises to understand the reading further.
(1). Tell the sentences ( on the screen ) true or false.
(2). Choose the best answer according to the emails.
(3). Answer the following questions:
<1>.Why does Army want to lose weight
……
<2>.What lessons can we learn from her story of losing weight
（4） Get the Ss to find the main idea of each email.

Step Five . Consolidation
1.Today we did some reading and learnt that health is above everything else in some way. We should value it . And we should have a right attitude to the problem of losing weight.
2. Get the students to translate some sayings about health and beauty, if time permits.
Step Six. Homework
Write a letter to Zhou Ling instead of Army after reading the emails again and reviewing what we talked about today.
