If you want to teach your children how to say sorry, you must be good at saying it yourself, especially to your own children. But how you say it can be quite tricky.
If you say to your children “I’m sorry I got angry with you, but…”, what follows that “but” can make the apology ineffective: “I had a bad day” or “You noise was giving me a headache” leaves the child who has been injured feeling that he should be apologizing for this bad behavior.
Another method by which people appear to apologize without actually doing so is to say “I’m sorry you’re upset”; this suggests that you are somehow at fault for allowing yourself to get upset by what the other person has done.
These pseudo(虚假的) apologies are used by people who believe saying sorry shows weakness. Parents who wish to teach their children to apologize should see it as a sign of strength, and therefore not turn to these pseudo apologies.
But even when presented with examples of true regret, children still need help to become aware of how difficult it is to say sorry. A three-year-old child might need help in understanding that other children feel pain just as he does, and that hitting a playmate over the head with a heavy toy requires an apology. A six-year-old child might need reminding that spoiling other children’s expectations can require an apology. A 12-year-old child might need to be shown that taking away the biscuit tin without asking permission is acceptable, but that borrowing a parent’s clothes without permission is not.
59. If a mother adds “but” to an apology, ________.
A.the child may find the apology easier to accept B.the child may feel that he should apologize to his mother
C.she does not realize that the child has been hurt D.she doesn’t feel that she should have apologized
60. According to the author, saying “I’m sorry you’re upset.” most probably means “_______”
A.You have good reason to get upset B.I apologize for hurting your feelings
C.I’m wrong for making you upset D.I know you’re upset, but I’m not to blame
61. We learn from the last paragraph that in teaching children to say sorry ________.
A.their ages should be taken into consideration B.parents should be patient and tolerant(宽容的)
C.parents need to set them a good example D.the difficulties involved should be taken no notice of
62. It can be inferred from the text that apologizing properly is ________.
A.not necessary among family members B.a sign of social progress
C.not as simple as it seems D.a matter calling for immediate attention

Many people think Casablanca is one of the best movies ever made. It was filmed in 1942, during the Second World War, and starred Humphrey Bogart as Rick, and Ingrid Bergman as Ilsa. The movie is set in Casablanca, a place the Germans hope to take from the French. Rick owns a bar there.
In the movie, the German army is coming towards Casablanca. People who live there are trying to escape before they arrive. Rick has two tickets for the last plane out of Casablanca. His former lover Ilsa arrives in Casablanca with her husband Victor Lazlo. Lazlo is a leader in a secret group, and his escape will help win the war against Germany. Rick decides to give his tickets to Ilsa and Lazlo rather than use them himself. Rick really loves Ilsa, but he knows that it is more important for Lazlo to get out of Casablanca. Rick is a very tough character but he is not selfish. He is very good to people who need his help.
Some famous lines from the movie are, “Here’s looking at you, kid.” and “This could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.” Many people think that the line, “Play it again, Sam.” is in the movie. West Virginia--Public schools are using a dance video game to help get students in shape. In these schools, students are often told to turn off their video games and get some exercise. The schools have found a new way for their students to work out while playing a new video game. West Virginia is one of the heaviest states in the country. About half of its fifth-graders are considered to be overweight, and their parents are worried about that. To get them moving on a healthier path, the state’s public schools are using a video game called “Dance Dance Revolution”.
To use the game, players should stand on a special mat in front of a TV screen. Following arrows on the screen, players must move their feet to the specific symbols on the mat. Players must move quickly, touching symbols on the mat at just the right time. With each song, they get more exercise.
“It we can get children to change their behavior at a young age, they will hopefully grow up to be healthy and active adults,” said Carl Callison of Mountain State Blue Cross, a health care company.
West Virginia is ranked among the top three heaviest states. About a third of West Virginians are considred to be obese. Even more are considered to be overweight. Extra weight can lead to serious health problems such as high blood pressure, diabetes, some cancers, and many other health issues.
“One out of three children born in West Virginia today will have diabetes by the time they grow up,” said Nidia Henderson, a manager for the public employees’ insurance(保险) program. “That’s a terrible thing and not acceptable.”
All of West Virginia’s 157 middle schools are using the video game. School officials hope that all public schools in the state will use the game within the next three years. However, officials emphasize that the game is not meant to substitute physical education and health classes. The game will be part of physical education classes and after-school programs.
71. Why do public school in West Virginia develop “Dance Dance Revolution”
A.Because most of students don’t like dancing. B.Because it can help students get a better shape.
C.Because losing weight is necessary to students. D.Because it can make students’activities colourful.
72. The second paragraph mainly talks about________.
A.how to get more exercise B.what are needed in the game
C.how to play a dance video game D.who can practise the game
73. According to the text, which of the following is not true
A.About one person in three West Virginians are overweight. B.Over weight may cause a lot of diseases.
C.The problem of students’over weight has been realized. D.There are only 157 middle schools in West Virginia.

[One possible version]
Everyone likes to spend their birthday, but they have different ways to spend it. In our class, we have four ways to spend their birthday.
About half of us would like to have a birthday party on their birthday with their friends and classmates. They can talk, sing and do anything at the party and often have a wonderful time. Some classmates like to travel on their birthday. They want to go close to nature and relax themselves. However, about one third of my classmates hope to receive the special presents on their birthday from their parents, such as a mobile phone or a computer. At last, one classmate in ten wishes to plant a tree to celebrate their birthday and it makes our home more beautiful.
I think the last way to celebrate the birthday is very interesting. Next year I will grow a tree on my birthday.

W: Hi, Jack. Nice to meet you. My name is Mary.
M: Nice to meet you, Mary. So where are you from
W: Well, I should say at first I was from Ireland, but my parents took me to the United States when I was about ten and then we lived in Boston for almost nine years. My parents now live in Ottawa. That’s where they first met. I often go there to visit them. How about you, Jack
M: I was born in New York, and we lived there until I was seven. Then, since my father worked for the army, we moved all over the world.
W: Oh, yes What are the places you used to live in
M: We spent a total of twelve years in India, China, Japan and France. We returned to New York only two years ago.
W: Wow. It seems that you’ve had an interesting life.

Good evening! Thank you for coming to this meeting. I want to tell you about the Music Club. This is a new club for students who like music. Anyone can join.
The Music Club will meet every day after class. It will meet in the library.
On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays we will listen to CDs that other club members bring to the meetings. There will be many different kinds of music. Club members will talk about the people who have written and performed the music. On Tuesdays and Thursdays club members will perform their own music. Many students here can sing or play musical instruments. The Music Club will give them a chance to perform in front of other students.
The Music Club will have a committee. At the next meeting we will choose the members of this committee. This committee will decide the program for the club—what CDs we will play and who will perform.
