阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。

Every day we go to school and listen to the teacher, and the teacher will ask us some questions. Sometimes, the classmates will ask your opinions of the work of the class. When you are telling others in the class what you have found out about these topics, remember that they must be able to hear what you are saying. You are not taking part in a family conversation or having a chat with friends---you are in a slightly unnatural situation where a large group of people will remain silent, waiting to hear what you have to say. You must speak so that they can hear you---loudly enough and clearly enough but without trying to shout or appearing to force yourself.
Remember, too, that it is the same if you are called to an interview whether it is with a professor of your school or a government official who might meet you. The person you are seeing will try to put you at your ease but the situation is somewhat different from that of a ordinary conversation. You must take special care that you can be heard.
56. When you speak to the class, you should speak ________.
A. as slowly as possible B. in a low voice C. loudly D. forcefully
57. Usually, when you speak to the class, the class is ________.
A. noisy B. quiet C. having a rest D. serious
58. If you are having a conversation with an official, the most important thing for you is____.
A. to show your ability B. to be very gentle
C. to make sure that you can be heard D. to put the official at ease
59. The main idea of this passage is _______.
A. that we should talk in different ways in different situations
B. that we must speak loudly
C. that we must keep silent at any time
D. that we must talk with the class
B
Parents often believe that they have a good relationship with their teenagers (青少年). But last summer , Joanna and Henry noticed a change in their older son : suddenly he seemed to be talking far more to his friends than to his parents . “ The door to his room is always shut .” Joanns noted .
Tina and Mark noticed similar changes in their 14-year-old daughter . “She used to cuddle up (蜷伏)with me on the sofa and talk ,” said Mark . “Now we joke that she does this only when she wants something , Sometimes she wants to be treated like a little girl and sometimes like a young lady . The problem is figuring out which time is which .”
Before age 11, children like to tell their parents what’s on their minds . “In fact , parents are first on the list .” said Michael Riera, author of Uncommon Sense for Parents with Teenagers . “This completely changes during the teen years .” Riera explained . “They talk to their friends first , then maybe their teachers , and their parents last .”
Parents who know what’s going on in their teenagers’ lives are in the best position to help them . To break down the wall of silence , parents should create chances to understand what their children want to say , and try to find ways to talk and write to them . And they must give their children a mental break , for children also need freedom , though young . Another thing parents should remember is that to be a friend , not a manager , with their children is a better way to know them .
60.“The door to his room is always shut” suggests that the son .
A.is always busy with his studies
B.doesn’t want to be disturbed
C.keeps himself away from his parents
D.begins to dislike his parents
61. What troubles Tina and Mark most is that .
A.their daughter isn’t as lovely as before
B.they can’t read their daughter’s mind exactly
C.they don’t know what to say to their daughter
D.their daughter talks with them only when she needs help
62.Which of the following best explains “ the wall of silence” in the last paragraph
A.Teenagers talk a lot with their friends .
B.Teenagers do not want to understand their parents .
C.Teenagers do not talk much with their parents .
D.Teenagers talk little about their own lives .
63.What can be learned from the passage
A.Parents are unhappy with their growing children .
B.Parents have suitable ways to talk with their teenagers .
C.Parents should be patient with their silent teenagers .
D.Parents should try to understand their teenagers .

A year ago, I paid no attention to English idioms, though my teacher emphasized(强调)the importance again and again. But soon, the importance of English idioms was shown in an amusing experience
One day, I happened to meet an Englishman on the road, and soon we began to talk. As I was talking about how I was studying English, the foreigner seemed to be surprised . Gently shaking his head, shrugging his shoulders, he said, “You don’t say!” “You don’t say!” I was puzzled. I thought , perhaps this is not an proper topic. “Well, I’d better change the topic. “ So I said to him, “Well, shall we talk about the Great Wall By the way, have you ever been there ” “Certainly, everyone back home will laugh at me if I leave China without seeing it. It was wonderful.” He was deep in thought when I began to talk like a tourist guide. “The Great Wall is one of the wonders in the world. We are very proud of it.” Soon I was stopped again by his words: “You don’t say!” I couldn’t help asking, “Why do you ask me not to talk about it ” “Well, I didn’t ask you to do so,” he answered, greatly surprised. I said, “Didn’t you say ‘you don’t say’ ” Hearing this, the Englishman laughed to tears. He began to explain, ‘You don’t say.’actually means ‘really’! It is an expression of surprise. Perhaps you don’t pay attention to English idioms.” Only then did I know how foolish I had been. Since then I have been more careful with idiomatic expressions. Remember: what the English teachers said is always right to us students.

C. I felt very foolish
D. I became more careful in everything.

The average 15 year old rises at 6:00 a.m. to go for a jog. He then dresses, eats breakfast, and arrives at high school in time for classes at 7:40. After school, there are always activities and things to do, such as football practice and homework. He usually falls asleep by 10:00 p.m., but still the next day he feels tired during his morning classes.
On nearly eight hours sleep a night, often regarded as the required amount, some experts still say it is not enough. They argue that teens naturally like to go to bed later, but that their bodies’ biological changes mean that they need at least nine to ten hours a night. Some American high schools have even begun starting classes later in the day to deal with the problem. Lack of sleep damages mood and affects performance the next day, so it often explains the extreme mood swings of teenagers.
The National Sleep Foundation (NSF) in Washington USA reported that the total average sleep time during the school week decreases(下降) from 7 hours and 42 minutes for 13 year olds to 7 hours and 4 minutes for 19 year olds.
The problem is that we live in a very fast-pace society where parents themselves skimp(吝惜) on sleep.
So it’s hard to expect one’s own children to turn off the computer or TV and go to bed if that’s the family’s lifestyle.

69. We can safely say_______.

Dear teenagers,
I am an editor of the ‘ Teenagers Now’ column. I know you teenagers are very upset because the adults who are hard on you are rude sometimes. You have to stay up to finish the homework as though you were machines without any vacations.
I can give some advice as follows: firstly, you’d better not to do the things the adults forbid, and try to do something that can surprise them and make them happy; secondly, chat with them as often as possible and let them trust you; thirdly, if you want to have your own valuable spare time, give them some reasonable explanations patiently. Remember not to argue with them and do all you can to deal with the relationship between each other.
I hope the advice will be helpful to you teenagers.
Yours truly,
Li Hua

W: Yes, like what
M: Well, first of all, there’s the Internet, of course.
W: Yes, I know, you seem to be online all the time. What do you do Surf the net
M: Sometimes. But mostly I use the Internet to get information about things I’m interested in and talk with people all over the world about music. You know, I’m a member of a discussion group. Well, it’s kind of club, except that it meets on line, and uh, anyone who’s interested can join the club. If you are a member, you can go on line at any time you want and read messages sent in by other members, and of course you can also reply to any messages you want. Um, here, look, there are twenty-five different discussion groups and live chats. You can communicate with people from all over the world in real time.
W: That sounds like fun! I’d better buy a computer.
Text 10:
W: I taught in Tokyo, Japan, and I thought I had prepared myself pretty well with the necessary travel books and my helpful Japanese-Canadian roommate. I was really excited about teaching because it was my first paid job. I began each class by introducing myself. I could see the excitement in my students’ faces as they had a real American girl. Their warm welcome made me feel comfortable, and so I let them ask me some questions. To my surprise, I was asked questions like “How old are you ”
“Are you married ” “ Why aren’t you married ” “Why did you come to Japan ” I was really surprised. I couldn’t believe that the students could ask such personal questions and expect honest answers. After this happened in several classes, I stopped giving the students chance to ask me these questions. I later found out that these questions are acceptable in Japan, and that is not information that is considered too personal. Once I realized that the students didn’t mean to be impolite and actually cared about me, I felt much more comfortable about my first experiences.
