阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

Have you ever been in a meeting while someone was making a speech and realized suddenly that your mind was a million miles away You probably felt sorry and made up your mind to pay attention and never have daydreaming again. Most of us, from earliest school days, have been told that daydreaming is a waste of time.
“On the contrary,” says L. Gambia, an expert in psychology, “daydreaming is quite necessary. Without it, the mind couldn’t get done all the thinking it has to do during a normal day… You can’t possibly do all your thinking with a conscious mind. Instead, your unconscious mind is working out problems all the time. Daydreaming then may be one way that the unconscious states of mind have silent dialogues.”
Early experts in psychology paid no attention to the importance of daydreams or even considered them harmful. At one time daydreaming was thought to be a cause of some mental illness. They did not have a better understanding of daydreams until the late 1980s. Eric Klinger, a professor of psychology, is the writer of the book “Daydreaming”. Klinger said, “We know now that daydreaming is one of the main ways that we organize our lives, learn from our experience, and plan for our futures… Daydreams really are a window on the things we fear and the things we long for in life.”
Daydreams are usually very simple and direct, quite unlike sleep dreams, which may be hard to understand. It’s easier to gain a deep understanding of your life by paying close attention to your daydreams than by trying to examine your sleep dreams carefully. Daydreams help you recognize the difficult situations on your life and find out a possible way of handling them.
Daydreams cannot be predicted, they move off in unexpected directions which may be creative and full of useful ideas. For many famous artists and scientists, daydreams were and are a main source of creative energy.
So the next time you catch yourself daydreaming, don’t stop. Just pay attention to your dream. It may be more important than you think.

In the early 1800s, the paper industry was still using rags(碎布)as its basic source of fiber as it had for many centuries. However the rag supply couldn’t keep up with the growing demand for paper. The United States alone was using 250 thousand tons of rags each year. And a quarter of that had to be imported. It was clear that a new source of fiber was needed to keep up with the demand for paper.
The answer to this problem turned out to be paper made from wood pulp(浆), something that was abundantly available in North America. In Canada, the first wood pulp mill was set up in 1866 and it was immediately successful. But while wood pulp solved the problem of quantity it created a problem of quality.
Wood contains a substance called lignin. The simplest way to make large quantities of cheap paper involves leaving the lignin in the wood pulp. But lignin(木质素)is acidic(酸性的) and its presence in paper has shorten the life expectancy of paper from several centuries for rag paper to less than a century for paper made from wood pulp. This means that books printed less than a hundred years ago are already turning yellow and beginning to be weakened, even though books printed much earlier maybe in fine condition. This is bad enough for the older books on your bookshelf but it poses a huge problem for libraries and the collections of government documents.
60. What does this passage mainly discuss
A. The growth of the publishing industry.
B. The history of papermaking.
C. The uses of paper in the nineteenth century.
D. The composition of wood fiber.

A. Publishers wanted higher quality paper.
B. Paper made from rags became worse too quickly.
C. Wood pulp had become too expensive.
D. The supply of rags was in not enough.
62. According to the author, what is the problem with lignin
A. It is difficult to get.
B. Paper cannot be made without it.
C. It causes damage to paper quality.
D. It prevents wood from being turned into pulp.
63. According to the passage, what problem do libraries face
A. Many of their books are in poor condition.
B. They have too many books from the early 1800’s.
C. They don't have enough space to store government documents.
D. They have to import most of the paper they use.

How large an allowance is suitable Experts say there is not right amount. Actual amounts differ from region to region, and from family to family.
To set an suitable allowance for your child, work up a weekly budget(预算). Allow for entertainment fees such as movies and snacks. Next, “If you make the child responsible for these “ills” says Josephine Swanson, a consumer specialist, “ he or she will learn to budget for necessary expenses.” Finally, add some extra money to make saving possible. If you can, keep your child’s allowance in line with that of his friends. A child whose buying power falls away below his peers can feel left out.
It can be taught, but avoid excusing your children when they make a mistake with their allowance. When Brooke Stephens was ten and growing up in Jacksonville, her mother gave her $5 a week, $1.75 of which was for bus fare and lunch.“If you lose your money,” Brooke’s mother told her, “ you walk home.”
One week the girl spent all her allowance in a candy store; then she called home for a ride. “Mom made me walk home,” recalls Stephens, now a financial planner in Brooklyn.” At first I was angry. But I finally realized that she was trying to teach me an important lesson.”
Experts advise that an allowance should not be tied directly to a child’s daily tasks. Kids should help around the house not because they get paid for it but because they share responsibilities as members of a family. You might, however, pay a child for doing extra jobs at home, which can develop his or her initiative(主动精神).
64. What does the passage mainly discuss
A. How to develop a child’s initiative. B. How to work up an amount of pocket money.

Lane waited on the bench near the bridge, as he had been ordered. The strong cold wind blew straight across the river, and he had to pull his overcoat closer about him. He went over his orders in his mind. The spy would appear at four o’clock. He would talk to Lane for a while, then he would get up, leaving his newspaper behind. The plans would be found inside. A distant clock began to strike the hour. As if from nowhere, a man appeared and sat down beside Lane, placing his newspaper on the seat between them. He was thin and middle-aged, and seemed in need of a good meal. His conversation about the weather was rather uninteresting. He didn’t look like a good spy, Lane thought.
A few minutes later he got up and continued his way. Lane picked up the paper which lay on the bench, as if he wanted to look at the news. He was excited to see the plans stuck to the third page. Last summer, the cataracts that grew on my eyes finally robbed me of my sight and I lost the will to live. Before August, I could still see the world in front of my home, but as time passed and the cataracts grew, my vision became worse. Eventually, I couldn’t see anything, not even my hands. Each day became more and more painful. I just wanted to die.
In February, however, my spirits rose. I heard that a ‘hospital-on-rails’ was to pass through my province, Hubei. A little later, a health official visited me to say that, if I wanted to, I could register to have an eye-operation in this mobile hospital. Normally, the operation would cost about ¥2400, but for me, if I was accepted for registration(登记), there would be no charge.
The Lifeline Express is a three-carriage hospital train which was a gift from the people of Hong Kong to provide free medical treatment for the poor. The ¥19-million custom-built train, funded by the Lifeline Express Company in Hong Kong, is fitted with the latest medical equipment for treating physical diseases. It has two operating theatres, one radiology and 20 beds for patients to stay overnight.
The Express has a permanent staff of two eye-doctors, one heart specialist and four nurses, all selected by the Health Ministry. While the concept behind the Express is similar to that of Project Orbits, the train can bring help to people not only in cities, but also in villages, thanks to China’s extensive unified railway system.
The doctors on the Express do more than give the visually disabled a new lease of life. They pass on their skills to local doctors who can then continue operations and treatment after the train has departed. One Express doctor points out that guest doctors on the train are in an ideal position to absorb the latest technology and pass it on to local doctors. For example, they can teach them to operate on patients using microscopes. Of course, such training is only helpful to them if the local hospital have the necessary equipment.
The health authorities fortunately accepted me for registration for an operation. They said that priority(优先权) was given to breadwinners and to younger sufferers who could, when cured, make their contributions to society. I fitted into the first category because my husband is handicapped and unable to work. I am looking forward to my operation and the recovery of my sight.
72.The phrase custom-build in the third paragraph means _______.
A. made for a special task B. made in a traditional way
C. made at a great cost D. made in the usual manner
73. Which of the following could probably not be performed on the Lifeline Express
A. The heart operation to be done. B. The eyes to be examined
C. The checks to be X-rayed. D. The mental problems to be solved.
74. The main purpose of the passage is to _____.
A. compare the work of the Lifeline Express and Project Orbits
B. tell how the writer lost her eyesight
C. report on the effect of technology on health care
D. describe the work done by the Lifeline Express
75. Which of the following statements is true
A. At one time, the writer was not interested in staying alive
B. Local hospital have enough equipment, but lack trained doctors
C. The permanent staff on the Lifeline Express are from Hong Kong

范文:
The News Report has always been my favorite TV program. Almost everyday I turn on the TV at 6:30 p.m. and wait for the news program. This has become a part of my life.
The News Report contains a large amount of information from the international political situation to the latest foot-ball game. And the most important character is its fast pace. Because of this fast pace, news programs can contain much information in a short time.
In my opinion, the News Report is more than a TV program. It is a way of communication. From this program, people can know and understand world affairs. The world thus becomes smaller and smaller. I especially appreciate this benefit of watching the news.
