With Earth's power consumption(消费) to reach new highs in coming decades, one scientist is proposing a suitably far-out solution to the likely energy shortage --power plants on the moon.
Professor David Criswell said that lunar power plants could capture the sun's rays and send them on to Earth as concentrated microwave beams. This could provide cheap, enough and stable energy for the Earth's growing population.
Criswell's plan involves setting up solar panels at many places on the moon to collect the sun's rays. This energy could then be converted into a microwave beam and sent to receivers on Earth, where it would be easily converted into electricity that could be put into the power grid(输电网).
The microwave energy beam, which could pass through rain and clouds, would have the intensity(强度) of about 20 percent of noontime sunlight and would be perfectly safe with only a slight problem of local radio interference, he said.
Criswell said most of his lunar power plants could be easily constructed from materials already found on the moon, and that they were technologically simple enough to wire up quickly.
56. According to Professor David Criswell, in the next decades, people will be likely to build_________.
power plants on sun
power plants on the Mars
power plants on the moon
power plants on the earth
57. How can we send the energy from the moon to the earth

plugging the electricity into the power grid
sending the microwave beam to receivers on the Earth
converting the microwave into electricity
converting the sun’s rays into a microwave beam
setting up solar panels at numerous lunar installations to collect the sun's rays
A. e-d-b-c-a B. e-d-b-a-c C. d-e-b-a-c D. e-b-d-c-a
59. Which of the statements is NOT true according to the passage
The microwave energy beam would have the intensity of about 20 percent of noontime sunlight.
The microwave energy beam could pass through rain and clouds.
The microwave energy beam would be not safe with severe problem of local radio interference.
Most of the lunar power plants could be easily constructed from materials already found on the moon.

Christian churches are as varied as the countries in which they are found. They come in all shapes and sizes--from tents and tiny wooden huts to towering stone cathedrals. But all churches are used for the same purposes. They serve as places of prayer, as settings for holding religious services and as places that house all kinds of religious objects.
Throughout the ages, churches have been built in many different styles of architecture(建筑风格), depending on the time in history and which country they were built in. In the 1000s and 1100s, many churches adopted the Romanesque(罗马式)style of architecture. They all had wide, rounded arches and low, round domes. In the Middle Ages, in western Europe, a style known as Gothic appeared. These churches were cool and dark inside. The huge space inside them helped to give churchgoers(经常去做礼拜的人) a sense of awe at being in the presence of God.
Most cathedrals were disposed in the same way inside. The worshipers sat in the centre, in a section called the nave. They faced towards the altar(祭坛) and the place where the choir sang. On either side were the wings, called transepts(教堂的十字型翼部), which gave the church its cross shape.

The idea to create a Recording Academy began in early 1957. A visionary(有远见的) group of music professionals and label(唱片公司) executives in Los Angeles recognized the need to create an organization that would represent the creative people in the recording arts and sciences. The founding members of the Recording Academy wanted to recognize and celebrate the artistic achievement of not only talented musicians and singers but also important, behind-the-scene contributors such as producers and engineers.
Thought of as a way to create a real recording industry community and address some of these problems, the Recording Academy was born and the Grammy Awards process began. The Grammys(格莱美奖) are the only peer-presented(行业授予的) award to honor artistic achievement. The award is a small statue. It is shaped like the early record player called a gramophone(留声机). The word "Grammy" is a short way of saying gramophone.
As we continue our journey into the active future of the 2lst century, the Recording Academy looks forward to the new opportunities of a growing organization. Over the last decade particularly, the Academy has expanded its goals from the important work of recognizing the best in music through the Grammy Awards to establishing itself as the outstanding arts advocacy(拥护) and outreach organization in the country. The Academy's goal is simple, but represents the heart and soul of the organization's efforts: to surely influence the lives of musicians, industry members and our society at large.
