Memory Fact Sheet:
● When you remember something, your brain probably stores it by creating new nerve
connections.
● You have three types of memory--sensory, short-term and long-term.
● Sensory memory is when you go on feeling a sensation for a moment after it stops~
● Short-term memory is when the brain stores things for a few seconds, like a phone number
you remember long enough to dial.
● Long-term memory is memory that can last for months or maybe even your whole life.
● Your brain seems to have two ways of remembering things for the long term. Scientists call
these declarative (陈述性) and non-declarative memories.
● Non-declarative memories are skills you teach yourself by practicing, such as playing
badminton or the flute. Repetition sets up nerve pathways.
● Declarative memories are either episodic (情景) or semantic (语意).
● Episodic memories are memories of striking events in your life, such as breaking your leg

PARIS (Reuters) -- The world's top climate scientists said on Friday global warming was
man-made, calling for immediate government actions to prevent serious damages from rising
temperatures.
The United Nations panel(调查组), which groups 2,500 scientists from more than 13C
nations, predicted more droughts, heat waves, rains and a slow gain in sea levels that could last
for more than 1,000 years.
The scientists said it was "very likely" -- or more than 90 percent probable -- that human
activities led by burning fossil fuels (矿物燃料) explained most of the warming in the past 5C
years.
That is a toughening from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's (IPCC) last
report in 2001, which judged a link as "likely", or 66 percent probable.
Possible signs range from drought in Australia to record high winter temperatures in
Europe. "February 2, 2007 may be remembered as the day the question mark was removed
from whether people are to blame for climate change," said Achim Steiner, head of the U.N.
Environment Programme.
"Faced with this emergency, now it is not the time for half measures. It is the time for a
revolution, in the true sense of the term," French President Jacques Chirac said. "We are in truth
on the historical doorstep of the irreversible (不可逆转的) ."
67. It is clear that the world's top climate scientists ______.
A. are giving us a warning about global warming
B. are explaining to us how global warming takes place
C. have difficulty in deciding who is to blame for global warming
D. have worked out ways to prevent serious damages from rising temperatures
68. The news report mainly tells us that ______.
A. the world climate is changing for the better
B. the world climate is changing for the worse
C. something more must be done to stop the world from getting warmer
D. something has been done to stop the world from getting warmer
69. 2007 Climate Change Report ______.
A. came to the same conclusion as 2001 Climate Change Report
B. pointed out that global warming was likely to be caused by human activities
C. stated clearly that sea levels had risen rapidly
D. believed that global warming was very likely to be man-made
70. As for the present situation of global warming, French President Jacques Chirac ______.
A. is calling for step-by-step changes
B. is calling for a complete change
C. is faced with the emergency
D. is satisfied with the present measures

Celia was shocked. She had always been in good shape during high school, but now, in her
first year of college, she was suddenly ten pounds heavier. "My friends and I often had pizza or
ice cream when we studied late at night," she said, "and I was always drinking Coke to stay
awake."
Celia's experience is common. Many students enter college and find it so different that they cannot deal with changes properly. They're away from their parents and in a new stressful
environment. Pressures together with freedom to sleep and eat however they please cause many
students to experience the "Freshman 15': gaining weight suddenly in their freshman year of
college.
Most students do not realize that the "Freshman 15" can cause some serious health
problems. Of course, college-age adults are still developing bone mass, so gaining some weight
is normal. Sudden weight gain, however, puts too much strain (负担) on the heart and lungs,
resulting in little energy and some difficulty thinking and remembering. In later life, it can lead
to heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and possibly cancer.
The solution to the "Freshman 15" is simple--pay attention to developing good habits! In
general:
● Eat normal-sized meals at regular times. Eat slowly and enjoy it, so you don't need to
go back for more.
● Keep only healthy snacks in your room--and don't snack too often!
● Control drinking and smoking. Alcohol has a lot of calories, and smoking too much
makes exercise difficult.
● Exercise regularly! Even just 30 minutes a day--such as walking quickly to class from
your dorm--will make a big difference!
71. What happened to Celia in her first year of college?
A. She had sleep problems.
B. She put on weight suddenly.
C. She always studied late.
D. She went on diet so as to keep in good shape.
72. What do many students think of their freshman year of college?
A. They find it quite different.
B. They find it not quite difficult.
C. They find it very free.
D. They find it simple.
73. What do most college students fail to realize?
A. Gaining some weight is normal.
B. They have grown up.
C. They have gained a lot of weight.
D. Sudden weight gain may result in serious health problems.
74. What are students advised to do?
A. Eat slowly and exercise regularly.
B. Eat all foods slowly and regularly.
C. Keep enough healthy snacks in the room.
D. Eat healthy snacks as much as possible.
75. What are students advised not to do?
A. Don't drink.
B. Don't smoke.
C. Don't exercise too long.
D. Don't eat snacks too often.

第二节 书面表达参考样稿
Recently, the world-famous scientist Steven Hawking has expressed his concern about the
future of human beings. He thinks our immediate danger is nuclear war because both America
and Russia have plenty of nuclear warheads to destroy our earth several times. He also worries
that the changing climate is threatening our living environment. Prof. Hawking, therefore, suggests that we move to other stars.
I cannot agree with Prof. Hawking. It is true that the nuclear warheads which America and
Russia have can kill us several times. However, knowing the danger, America and Russia are
unlikely to use them. On the other hand, it is not practical for humans to move to other stars. At
present we have neither the ability nor the money to do that. What we should do now is to make our earth a better place. (122 词)
