While income worry is a rather common problem of the aged, loneliness is another problem that aged parents may face. Of all the reasons that explain their loneliness, a large geographical distance between parents and their children is the major one. This phenomenon(现象)is commonly known as “Empty Nest Syndrome”(空巢综合症).
In order to seek better chances outside their countries, many young people have gone abroad, leaving their parents behind with no clear idea of when they will return home. Their parents spend countless lonely days and nights, taking care of themselves, in the hope that someday their children will come back to stay with them. The fact that most of these young people have gone to Europeanized or Americanized societies makes it unlikely that they will hold as tightly to the value of duty as they would have if they had not left their countries. Whatever the case, it has been noted that the values they hold do not necessarily match what they actually do. This geographical and cultural distance also prevents the grown-up children from providing response(回应)in time for their aged parents living by themselves.
The situation in which grown-up children live far away from their aged parents has been described as “distant parent phenomenon”, which is common both in developed countries and in developing countries. Our society has not yet been well prepared for “Empty Nest Syndrome”.

A.they do not hold to the value of duty at all
B.they can give some help to their parents back home

63.From the last paragraph, we can infer that ________.
A.the situations in the developed and developing countries are different
B.“Empty Nest Syndrome” has arrived unexpectedly in our society
C.children will become independent as soon as they go abroad
D.the aged parents are not fully prepared for “Empty Nest Syndrome”

Some time ago,I discovered that one of my chairs had a broken leg.I didn’t think there would be any difficult in getting it mended.,as there were a whole of antique shops near my home.So I left home one morning carrying the chair with me.I went into the first shop expecting a friendly reception.I was quite wrong. The man wouldn’t even look at my chair.
The second shop, though slightly more polite, was just the same, and the third and the fourth—so I decided that my approach must be wrong.
I entered the fifth shop with a plan in my mind.I placed the chair on the floor and said to the shopkeeper,“Would you like to buy a chair?”He looked it over carefully and said,“Yes,not a bad chair. How much do you want for it?”“Twenty pounds”I said.“OK,”he said,“I will give you twenty pounds”.“It’s got a slightly broken leg,”I said.“Yes,I saw that,it’s nothing.”
Everything was going according to my plan and I was getting excited.“What will you do with it?”I asked.“Oh,it will be easy to sell once the repair is done.”“I will buy it,”I said.“What do you mean? You have just sold it to me,”he said,“Yes,I know but I’ve changed my mind.I am sorry.I will give you twenty-seven pounds for it.”“You must be crazy,”he said. Then, suddenly the penny dropped.“I see your purpose now.You want me to repair your chair.”“You are right” I said,“And what would you have done if I had walked in and said,‘Would you mend this chair for me?’”“I wouldn’t have agreed to do it,”he said.“We don’t do repairs, not enough money in it and too much trouble. But I will mend this for you.”He was a very nice man and the deal was done in an amusing way.

Tourism probably started in Roman times. Rich Romans visited friends and family who were working in another part of the Roman empire. But when the empire broke down, this kind of tourism stopped.
In the early 17th century, the idea of the “Grand Tour” was born. Rich young English people sailed across the English Channel. They visited the most beautiful and important European cities of the time, including Paris in France, and Rome and Venice in Italy. Their tours lasted for two or four years and the tourist stayed a few weeks or months in each city. The “Grand Tour” was an important part of young people’s education—but only for the rich.
In the 18th century tourism began to change. For example, people in the UK started to visit some towns, such as Bath to “take the wasters”. They believed that the water there was good for their health. So large and expensive hotels were built in these towns.
In the 19th century, travel became much more popular and faster. When the first railways were built in the 1820’s, it was easier for people to travel between towns, so they started to go for holidays by sea. And some started to have holidays in the countryside as cities became larger, noisier and dirtier.
Traveling by sea also became faster and safer when the first steamships were built. People began to travel more to faraway countries.
The 20th century saw cars become more and more popular among ordinary people. Planes were made larger, so ticket process dropped and more people used them. ?

书面表达:25分Now in the country areas, there are many children out of school. I think one of the reasons is that their families are too poor to afford their school. As a result, they have to stay at home to get money to keep their families. Another reason is that many parents think it useless for the girls to study and they would not like them to go to school. A third reason is that some children are not interested in their lessons, and would not like to go to school. In my opinion all the children including the girls should have the chance to receive education. All the people should pay attention to the education the children who will play a very important part in the future of our country.
