My eyes clouded with tears as I looked through the open window at our blue spruce(云杉树), evergreen among brown leafless trees that looked as 36 as our empty house felt. Our belongings were 37 up in boxes. Soon we would be saying goodbye to our home and the blue spruce we’d planted there.
We drove 38 to our new home. The owners met us out front. The hostess took me for a 39 of the yard. They were moving, she told me, to be closer to their children. “How long have you lived here?” I asked. “Eighteen years,” she said. I gave her a sideways glance, and 40 in her eyes a faraway look. “Is it 41 for you to leave ?” I asked. We had come to a pine tree towering 20 feet above us in the center of the yard. “Yes”, she said, brushing her hand across her eyes. Her voice died away.
“I’m not the only one 42 through this, the only one who’s 43 , ” I thought. But that didn’t make leaving our home 44 any easier. 45 the kids coming for the holidays didn’t help. Listening to them talk about their lives at school and recall our house. I only felt more depressed. “Maybe this is what 46 is going to be like now,” I thought, “with the 47 memories already behind us.” The new year started. I still ached for my old life, 48 . I couldn’t get away from the 49 that hung over me and my husband could do nothing to 50 me up.
One day I found myself staring at the tall pine. There was something so 51 , so assuring(令人放心) about it. Were the previous owners missing their pine tree 52 I missed our blue spruce? And maybe the people who had moved into our house were taking comfort in 53 just as I was taking 54 in that pine. It was time to be 55 like that tree, to reach out and embrace our new life.

Vienna, the capital of Austria, is famous for its wealth of art, music, museums and parks. But some locals are saying that the city’s beauty is damaged by dog owners who don’t clean up after their pets.
And, last week they came up with a solution. There is a citywide campaign telling dog owners to pick up after their dogs. That means don’t leave a mess on city streets and in parks.
“We want to reach as many dog owners as possible to remind them of the rules,” said Ulli Sima, city official in charge of the environment.
“We want to show them the easiest solution to the problem: put it in a bag and then in the next rubbish bin,” said Sima.
There are about 158,000 dogs in Vienna. The city requires their owners to bag the pet’s mess when walking it outdoors. But it is believed that only a small number of the city’s dog lovers actually follow the rules.
Every day dogs drop between 5 and 10 tons of their waste around the city. Vienna spends 7 million euros( 70 million yuan) every year just to keep the streets mess-free.
The city is blamed for not being very strict with the rules. Dog owners say they pay 40 euros each years for their pet. But the city argues the dog license fee has nothing to do with cleaning up dog messes. The fine for leaving a dog mess is high—as much as 72 euros. The city, however, seldom punishes those rule breakers.
City officials said that the campaign was not meant to be an attack on dog owners.
“The city does a lot for peaceful co-existence by building areas for dogs or providing bags for dog waste. But dog owners must do their part as well and accept these offers,” said Sima.

D.Some dog owners think it is the government that is responsible for the cleaning up.

“In our time,” Marx once wrote, “change is upon the world and cannot be stopped as we wish. The thing now is to understand it.” Marx devoted his life to understanding that change.
Born in Trier in 1818,he came from a rich, middle—class family. Many of his relatives had believed in Judaism(犹太教),but his father had changed to believe in Protestantism(新教) in order to become a lawyer. After studying at the universities of Bonn and Berlin, Marx became interested in politics in his early twenties and in 1848 wrote The Communist Manifesto, together with his life-long friend Friedrich Engels.
Revolution broke out throughout Europe in 1848 and Marx was forced to leave Germany when it failed in 1849. He moved to London, where he spent the rest of his life, working in the British Museum.
His stay in the house in Dean Street in Soho was a time of great hardship for Marx and his family. He was surviving almost on the money provided by Engels and on the very little money he earned as the foreign reporter for a newspaper in New York.
Three of his six children died during the time in Soho and, Marx even had to borrow money in order to bury one of them. Only when Marx’s wife Jenny got 120 pounds after her mother died was the family able to move out of Soho and into a slightly better house in Kentish Town.

The months are familiar to everyone. Nearly any small child can rattle off the twelve months of the year. However, one important piece of knowledge is still missing: an explanation of how and why the names came into being.
Every month’s name tells a story. January is named after Janus, a Roman god who was described as having two faces, one looking forward and one looking back. As the god of doors, he had to watch out for friends and enemies coming from either direction.
February is one of the few months not named after a person. February is a form of februare, which was a Roman festival. On that day, people begged the gods for healthy children and enough crops in the next year.
March is named after Mars, whom many people have read about as the god of war. Few people realize that at first Mars was the god of springtime. Fighters would “take the winter off” from fighting, resting while the weather was too bad for battle. In the spring—around what we now think of as March—battles would start again. From this time line, Mars soon became more well—known as the god of war than of springtime.
April is a mystery. Experts argue a lot about the origin of it.
May is also named after a goddess, Maika. She was the goddess of plants. Because plants often begin to have flowers in May.
Not every month kept the same name over the years. For example, July and August weren’t always known by those names. The first name for July was Quintilis, “fifth month.” August was at first called Sextilis, “sixth month.” Likewise, September, October, November, and December were the seventh, eighth, ninth, and tenth months. How did July and August get their new names? July was named after Julius Caesar, the first emperor of Rome, after he was killed in 66 BC. August was named after Augustus Caesar, Julius Caesar’s nephew.
67.The underlined phrase “rattle off” most probably means .
A.shake until something drops off B.say something quickly from memory
C.get rid of D.feel unhappy
68.The main purpose of the passage is .
A.to explain how the months got their names
B.to show why there are twelve, not just ten months
C.to show how important human activities are in deciding the names of the months
D.to suggest new names for the months
69.For which of the following reasons does the passage say that Janus needed both of his faces?
A.He was the caretaker of fighters in battle.
B.He was the god of the beginning of the year.
C.He had to look in both directions as the god of doors.
D.He had more days in his month than in the other months.
70.According to the passage, which of the following months was named after a festival?
A.February B.March C.April D.May

With both hands resting on top of the steering wheel, Oshima looks over at me: “That’s where you will be living now, Kafka. In the room where Miss Saeki used to spend time with her boyfriend. As I said, there is some change to the library, but it’s the very same room.”
Silence on my part.
“Miss Saeki’s life stopped at age 20, when her lover died. No, maybe not age 20, maybe much earlier…I don’t know the details, but you need to know of this. The hands of the clock inside her soul stopped then. Time outside, of course, flows on as always, but she isn’t affected by it. For her, what we consider normal time is meaningless.”
“Meaningless?”
Oshima nods. “Like it doesn’t exist.”
“What you’re saying is Miss Saeki still lives in that frozen time?”
“Exactly. When you get to know her better you’ll understand.”
Oshima reaches out and lays a hand on my knee on a totally natural gesture. “Kafka, in everybody’s life there’s a point of no return. And in a very few cases, a point where you can’t go forward anymore. And when you reach that point, all we can do is quietly accept the fact. That’s how we survive. ”
We’re about to get onto the main highway. “There’s one other thing I’d like you to know of,” he goes on. “Miss Saeki has a wounded heart. To some degree that’s true of all of us. But Miss Saeki has a special wound that goes beyond the usual meaning of the term. Her soul moves in mysterious ways. I’m not saying she’s dangerous—don’t get me wrong. On a day-to-day level she’s certainly got her act together, probably more than anyone else I know. She’s attractive, deep, smart. But just don’t let it worry you if you notice something strange about her sometimes.”
“Strange?” I can’t help asking.
Oshima shakes his head. “I really like Miss Saeki, and respect her. I’m sure you’ll come to feel the same way.”
This doesn’t really answer my question, but Oshima doesn’t say anything.
71.The underlined part “Miss Saeki is still living in that frozen time” means that .
A.although Miss Saeki is dead, she’s still alive in people’s memory
B.the time Miss Saeki spent with her boyfriend was very cold
C.the time Miss Saeki spent with her boyfriend was very unhappy
D.Miss Saeki cannot get out of the sadness brought about by her boyfriend’s death
72.The conversation takes place .
A.in a library B.in a moving car
C.where Miss Saeki used to spend time with her boyfriend
D.where Kafka lives
73.Which of the following statements is right?
A.Oshima knows every detail about Saeki.
B.Oshima knows Saeki well enough to understand her.
C.Oshima knows Saeki better than anyone else.
D.Oshima knows very little about Saeki, but respects her.
74.We can infer from the passage that .
A.there is something wrong with Saeki’s clock.
B.Saeki refuses to accept the fact
C.Saeki is attractive, smart but dangerous
D.Saeki can’t remember what happened to her
75.The writer wants to give us a feeling of by giving readers the description of Saeki.
A.mystery B.horror C.amazement D.danger

Dear editor,
I’m writing to tell you about the discussion we recently had about whether our parents should accompany us studying at school.
We do have different opinions on this matter. Most of us (about 70%)think our parents should not accompany us studying at school since it make us fall into the habit of dependence, so that we won’t form the good habit of studying. What’s more, it is harmful for us to form the habit of controlling ourselves. At the same time it affects our parents’ work, studies and rest.
While about 30%of my classmates think it necessary for our parents to accompany us studying at school. Accompanying us studying at school can let us have more time to spare for our studies. Besides, we shall be more healthy for their cooking. On the other hand our parents can help us set up our aim, urge us to finish our task, encourage us to overcome difficulties and get us into the good habit of studying..
Yours truly,
Li Hua
