We all know that there are many historic religious sites in China. For example: Shao Lin Temple in Henan Province, Han Shan Temple in suzhou ,jiangsu Province, and Tie Fu Temple in our hometown . Have you even visited any of these sites Which one

Today we are just planning to read a passage about the White Horse Temple, which is closely related to Buddhism.
Step II Fast reading
Read the article about the oldest temple in China quickly to get the general information and answer the following questions:
1. where is the White Horse Temple located
It was located in Luoyang, Henan Province in the central east of China.
2. Why is it called the White Horse Temple
To remind people of the white horse that the Buddhist readings and images had traveled on from India.

The Great Wall of China
The Great Wall is one of the largest projects ever completed. It stretches across the mountains of northern China, winding north and northwest of Beijing. It was over 5,000 km (=10,000 Li) long. In Chinese the Wall is called "Wan-Li Qang-Qeng" which means the Long Wall of 10,000-Li.
The history of Great wall of China goes back to the 2th century BC. In other words, it was built over 2,000 years ago, by Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of China during the Qin Dynasty (221 B.C - 206 B.C). After subjugating and uniting China from seven Warring States, the emperor connected and extended four old fortification walls along the north of China. Armies were stationed along the wall as a first line of defense against the invading nomadic Hsiung Nu tribes north of China. Signal fires from the Wall provided early warning of an attack.
During the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), the Great Wall was enlarged to 6,400 kilometers with watch-towers and cannons added. So the Great Wall as we see today was mostly built during the Ming Dynasty.
As one of the most magnificent ancient defense works, the Great Wall is known as one of the wonders of the world. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987.A large number of people all of the world come to visit the Great Wall every year . All tourists now know the saying, "You are not a real person until you have climbed the Great Wall."
