Teaching procedures:
Step I : Lead in:
1. Show the samples of letters of invitation.
2. Ss read the letters and fill in the chart. (getting information)

Tips (要领)
Before you write the invitation, plan the event. Will it be during the school day after school on the weekend What games will it include Will the event include food or other entertainment
Use words that will make people want to come. Show that the event will be exciting and fun to join.
Be sure to include important information, such as when and where the activity will take place.
Let participants(参加者) know if there is anything they need to bring, such as sporting equipment or a sack lunch.

Sample:

设计思路:
本单元要求学生学习如何提出邀请以及如何回复,包括接受与谢绝。在前几节课中,学生学习了书中有关内容,已能较好地进行口头表达。在学生日常生活中,经常会用到邀请信这种文体,因此,在口语的基础上比较系统地介绍邀请信这种文体的写作方法很有必要。
本节课的主要方法是读——写结合。第一步,先由三封邀请信入手,学生读完后完成表格,既训练其快速获取信息的能力,又为下一步归纳写作要领做铺垫。第二步,先由学生总结邀请信包含的要素,老师再进一步加以指导。随后补充一些写邀请信的用语,丰富学生的语言。还补充写作指导注释,作为学生课后学习材料。第三步是过渡性练习,将一封邀请卡改写为邀请信,学生通过此练习巩固所学写作要点。第四步,写作邀请信。设计情境为学校五周年校庆活动。通过几个小任务的完成组成一个任务链:选择进行的活动——安排活动内容——给校友发出邀请函。学生以小组为单位,进行讨论、写作、展示。最后,布置完成写作档案,三种形式由学生任选其一。
总之,通过本节课的学习,学生应对邀请信文体有较全面了解并能运用其进行简单交际。
课后反思:
本节课充分体现快节奏、高密度原则,既有语言知识的学习,又有学法指导,同时结合校庆对学生进行情感教育。教学步骤及环节设计精心,安排合理,水到渠成。任务设计贴近学生生活,实在而不生硬。学生接受能力较强,能凭借已有知识及表格练习归纳写作要素。
不足之处:由于时间紧,内容多,最后学生展示及点评未能完成。可以将第一步的三篇阅读材料改为两篇,或将学生分为三组分别完成,再合成。第四步,学生在写作过程中较多地进行细节描写,如野餐的食品名称的罗列等费时较多,而没能完成其它内容。可以给出范文提示,使学生学会抓重点。

2. 在接到某人的邀请信以后,我们可以回信来表示接受或拒绝对方的邀请。
3. 在回信表示接受对方的邀请时,我们要首先表达出对于对方邀请的感谢,并表示自己愿意接受这一邀请,最后表达一下自己参加这次聚会或其他活动的迫切心情。因此接受对方邀请的信包括以下三部分:
—— thanks
—— acceptance
—— expression of feeling
4. 在回信表示拒绝对方的邀请时,我们要先表达出自己对于对方邀请的感谢以及自己愿意参加该项活动的愿望,然后表示自己很抱歉,婉转地拒绝并写出拒绝的原因,最后还可以表达出自己对此项活动成功的希望和祝愿。拒绝对方邀请的信包括以下三部分:
—— thanks
—— apology + reason
—— wish
5. 在拒绝对方的邀请时,要使用婉转、客气的拒绝用语,同时要写出可以被人接受的拒绝理由。
Step III. Useful expressions
When you have to refuse an invitation it is usual to use a “softening” phrase followed by a reason for refusing. Here are four different ways to refuse the invitation politely.
a. I’d love to come, but I can’t, because….
b. I’m very sorry I cannot come to your 21st birthday party next week. I’m going….
c. I’m afraid I will not be able to…. because….
d. I’m really sorry to say / tell you that …. because….

1. Study the list below and decide with a partner which reasons are acceptable and which are unacceptable. Put a tick or a cross beside each reason.(讨论下列拒绝邀请的理由,在认为是正当的理由旁划√,在认为是不正当的理由旁划X)

d. Your friend has asked you to her 21st birthday party next Friday.

Divide the students into 3 groups.
(1) Work with a partner and write Paul’s letter correctly. Put it in the correct order, punctuate the letter properly, put the verbs into the correct tense and write the address in the correct position. (把信中的句子按顺序安排好,加上标点,使用动词的适当时态,并把地址写在正确的位置上。)
