Teaching content: Section A 1a-2a of Unit 8 (Book 1)
Teaching aims: 1. Learn the new words about months and ordinal numbers.
2. Learn the sentence pattern: A: When is your birthday
B: My birthday is June fourth.
3. Improve the students’ listening and speaking ability.
Important points: The same as the teaching aims.
Difficult points: 1. The pronunciation of some new words.
2. The ordinal numbers.
Teaching steps:
Step One: Leading-in
1. Greeting.
2. Ask and answer the questions about the price.
3. Ask and answer: How many pens do you have
Step Two: Pre-task
1. Ask: How many months are there in a year What are they
2. Teach the new words about the months.
3. Practise reading the words.
4. T: This month is November. How many days are there in November
Help students say the dates.
5. Teach the ordinal numbers.
6. Practise reading the ordinal numbers.
Step Three: While-task
1. Say some dates.
2. Ask: When is your birthday (My birthday is June fourth.)
3. Practise between the teacher and some individual students.
4. Do 1b. Listen and number the conversations.
5. Listen and repeat.
Step Four: Post-task
1. Do 1c. Students ask and answer about birthday in pairs.
2. Make a survey and ask some students to report the results to the class.
Step Five: Homework
Copy the new words three times and write down three conversations.
