One world, One dream
First of all, I’d like to say something about the meaning of the title. This is the theme of the coming 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. One world means that we are on the same planet and we live in the same world. One dream means that we, all the human beings, have a common faith about our today and our future. It is the dream of peace.
Today’s world is not very peaceful. There are wars and district conflicts here and there. In addition to that, there are also disasters, diseases, hunger, poverty and discrimination everywhere. We still have a long way to go before reaching our dream.
Once, I saw a picture which made me greatly shocked. There was a girl wearing dirty coats with her left leg broken. She embraced a toy bear in her arm without any emotion on her face. It appeared that her future was dim and had no prospects at all. But I could feel something very strong from her big eyes. That is the dream and desire for a better future. I felt very sorry for her. I asked to myself:
Is the only thing we could do just to pity for her
What if the innocent girl had been given more care
What if the whole society could have be more understanding and more friendly
What if…
So, I found that we can do a lot to help. If we had the same dream, things would be better. We really need a common dream shared by the whole world in which people live in harmony with each other. The world is a big family. Every individual is a member of it. In other words, the world consists of many different individuals. If all the individuals can hold the same dream and take action to help one another and that will really make a big difference.
高二 1 班 孟阳Facing the challenge of life
There was a little bird looking deep into the sky and complaining about this unequal world.“I only eat fruit and never hurt other animals, but why do they always hurt me ”“Oh my dear God! I don’t want to be a bird any more! When flying in the sky, eagles catch us, we build the houses in the trees, snakes climb the tree to bite us, thus the life of a bird is difficult!” So the bird asked God to let it be a man:“I heard Man is the wisest creature in the world, and they can do anything they want. No other animals can hurt them. Besides, eagles and snakes could be their delicious food……”
The God was so kind and said “No problem”and turned it into a man.
Some days later, the man said,“Oh it’s terrible. You can see the bodies, the blood here and there, to be a man is too dangerous. There are wars between the countries, and many people die.” He said to God,“Help me God, it’s terrible I don’t want to live in this world, could you let me be God ” But this time,God refused. He said,“There should only be one God, if more, there would be arguments.”
Yes, God is fair; he gives us wonderful lives, and allows us to live in this world. It is boring for us to live peacefully without hard experiences. Sailing ships often meet storms, and we can’t have green lights all the time. Don’t go away, in the face of trouble!
One year ago, I failed in the entrance examinations, and I cried at home for days. My father came to me and said,“No success does not mean failure. If you face to the challenge and work hard, you will be an excellent student.”So I worked very hard throughout Senior One year. In the term examinations, I won first place in my class, and I’m better than some students who used to be better than me.
Remember that escaping makes you weaker.
We have but only one life, so, why not treasure the chance of living it However, what we need is the courage of facing the challenge of life. I say, rise to the challenge; fight against failure and difficulties. Lastly keep happy and you will become stronger, and enjoy your life!
高二 17 周培培Honesty
One day, Jack was late for his work because he had drunk too much last night. He was very nervous because he might be fired by his boss if it was discovered by his boss. On his way to the office, he thought hard about the excuse for his being late. Suddenly, he heard a tearing crash beside him and an old man was knocked down by a car. A good idea occurred to him. When he arrived at the office, he pretended to wear a sad look on his face and began to weep in front of his boss. The manager asked him what had happened and Jack said that his grandfather lost his life in a traffic accident last night. The boss was felt very sorry for Jack and tried his best to comfort Jack and helped him to calm down. He persuaded him to forget about it and devote himself to his work..
A few days later, Jack was asked to his boss’s office. The manager was sitting in his chair. “Jack, I have both good news and bad news for you. The good news is that your grandfather came back to life just now because he dropped in half an hour ago. The bad news is that you are fired. ”
高二1 班 朱燕A story about an emperor’s teeth
Once upon a time, an emperor dreamed a terrible dream that all his teeth were gone. He was so afraid that he invited two wise men for their advice.
“My honored emperor, I regret to tell you that this dream predicts some unlucky truth. Loosing a tooth means that you will lose a relative” said one of the men.
“What ”, the emperor became so angry that he shouted at the man, “Take him out and punish him severely because of his insulting me.”
After listening to the whole story, the other wise man said happily to the emperor, “My dear emperor, how happy you are! According to the books written by our forefathers, this dream is a good dream. The losing of each tooth means that you will live one year longer than your relatives.”
“Is that true The emperor became so excited that he gave the wise man 100 gold coins as a reward.
After reading the story, I learned a lot from it. Truth is like a stone. If you pick it up and throw it at others, damage would be caused. But if you put the stone inside a beautiful coat and give it to others, happiness will appear.
高二 1 班, 陆莹楹To be a thief
When the clock was striking seven, I jumped out of the bed and quickly dressed myself. I had promised to meet my friend in the People’s Park at 8:30. After washing my face, I rushed out of my home in such a hurry that I forgot to take my gloves with me.
When I was standing in the bus, I felt freezing cold and meanwhile a man and a woman sitting next to me were talking about something. “It’s getting colder and colder, but thieves won’t have a rest because they have to steal more to celebrate the coming New Year. And generally speaking, thieves don’t wear gloves in winter to make it more convenient when stealing something.” The man said and began to look around to search for the “thieves”.
I looked around too and found that anybody else was wearing gloves. I don’t want to be regarded as thieves so I put my hands into the pocket.
“However, in order not to be noticed, thieves often put their hands in their pockets”. The woman went on with her speech. Her voice was so loud that other passengers were also searching for the one who put his hand in his pocket.
I was extremely embarrassed at that moment. In order to show that I was innocent, I walked to the bus door to keep myself away from them.
A moment later, the woman said again, “I know that thieves like moving around all the time to hunt for chances. They will go the door after they have succeeded in stealing.” Soon, some passengers began to open their handbags to check whether their belongings were still there.
All of a sudden, my face turned red. I guessed they were referring to me. I felt very upset and I intended to get off the bus as soon as possible to flee the hell and the People’s Park was approaching. I was about to get off the bus when the man said something I would never forget. “Thieves today are very cunning they won’t flee the scene immediately. In general, they will get off at some big stations such as the People’s Park so that it will be more difficult to seize them.” the man added.
My god! How could he know where I was going to get off I drew back my feet and had to wait for the next station to prove that I was not a thief.
What an unlucky morning!
高二17 班 刘爱伟The life of a monitor
It was the first day of school. The sun was shining and my life of senior two was just beginning.
Sitting in a new big classroom, there were many new students sitting around me. And my new headteacher was standing in the front of the classroom to make a self introduction. And he was about to appoint the leaders of the new class.
“Now, I will choose someone as our monitor, well, monitor, Liu sisi please. Would you be glad to do that ” It was me. How could it be I was too surprised to stand up. And even now I can’t remember how I stood up at that moment. “Ok. I will. And I will try my best to do it well.” From then on, my life as a monitor began.
At first, everything went on well. But then, problems came. Before every class, I had to say “Class begins!” to warm the class up. It seemed to be a piece of cake to me. But later on, I had to have a doss each afternoon to make my self full of energy in the afternoon. But it seeded that the ring didn’t have any effort on me and I couldn’t be waken by it. In the first class every afternoon I would be waken by my desk mate. And when I stood up, I found that all the others were standing there waiting for. I felt very embarrassed at that moment. And I made up my mind to do my homework and stay awake every afternoon so that I won’t miss the first class and the “Stand up!”.
I managed to do it for nearly a week. But one day, I was extremely tired then, so I fell asleep soon. When I was dreaming a good dream, I felt someone patting me. All of a sudden, I woke up, and stood up quickly. “Stand up!” I shouted. But when I opened my eyes I found that all the others were sitting in their chairs and staring at me and then all of us burst into laughter. In fact, my desk mate just played a trick on me. There were still ten minutes before the class began!
Now you see how hard it is to be a monitor!
