1. diet
n. 食物;特种饮食(go on a diet节食;吃限定食物)
eg. People who are on a diet mustn’t have chocolate.
Vt./vi. 节食;吃限定食物
eg. No sugar in my coffee, please. I’m dieting.
词义辨析:diet,food 都可做“食物”解。
diet 是可数名词,常与不定冠词a 连用;指的是习惯的食物或规定的食物,特指维持健康的定量或定质的食物,如病人的疗养饮食。
而food是不可数名词,凡能吃喝的具有营养的东西都称food; 但在表示食品的种类时,可以用复数。
2. energy n. 精力,活力,能量
eg. Plants absorb energy from the sun.
He is full of energy.
3. balance
vt. 权衡;使平衡;抵消
eg. We must balance the two plans.
n. 天平;平衡
eg. weigh sth. in the balance be out of balance
习惯用法:keep one’s balance 保持平衡 lose one’s balance 失去平衡,心慌意乱

此外,它还可以作原因状语,时间状语等。
eg:因为没见有人在家,她决定给他们留个条。

His heart was full of curiosity.
瓶里充满了蒸汽.
There is full of steam in the bottle.
6.taste (of sth): (v.) have a certain flavour
有某种味道
(n.) 味道;品味,鉴赏力
eg:这块蛋糕几乎没有味道。
This cake has very little taste.
格调高/低的:
in good/bad taste
7.Nothing could have been better.
再没有比这些更好吃的了。
此句子用比较级形式表示最高级意义。=All his foods could have been the best.
He is taller than any other boy in his class.
=He is the tallest boy in his class.
比较级的否定形式,实际上表示的是最高级的含义。
eg:没有人比他更贪财。
Nobody loves money better than he.
eg:我想没有什么比旅行更令人愉快。
I think nothing is more pleasant than travelling.
8.hurry by: pass by hurriedly 匆匆过去
9.newly-opened:新开张的
这是副词加动词过去分词的合成形容词。
此外,合成形容词最常见的构成方式还有:
body-building/ energy-giving :
名词+动词-ing
10.be/get tired of:对…厌倦
eg:天天吃一种事物让人厌倦。
I am tired of the same food every day.
他对在国外的生活厌烦了。
He has got/been tired of living abroad.
11.have sb. doing: allow (sth)
表示允许或容忍(某事物)发生。
此处的have用在否定句中,特别用在will not, cannot等之后。
eg:我不容许你这样说。
I won’t have you saying so.
eg. 他不容许儿子吸烟。
He won’t have his son smoking.
12.get away with doing sth:
1)not be punished for sth.不因某事受惩罚
eg:我不能容忍你上课讲话而不受惩罚。
I won’t have you getting away with talking in class.
2)escape with sth.携带…跑掉
eg.这些盗贼抢了银行,携巨款潜逃.
The robbers robbed the bank and got away with a lot of money.
