When a consumer (消费者) finds that something he or she bought is faulty or in some other way does not live up to what the producer says for it, the first step is to present the warranty (保单), or any other records that might help, at the store of buying. In most cases, this action will produce results. However, if it does not, there are various means the consumer may use to gain satisfaction.
A simple and common method used by many consumers is to complain directly to the store manager. In general, the “higher up” the consumer takes his or her complaint, the faster he or she can expect it to be settled. In such a case, it is usually settled in the consumer’s favour, taking it as true that he or she has a just right.
Consumers should complain in person whenever possible, but if they cannot get to the place of buying, it is acceptable to phone or write the complaint in a letter.
Complaining is usually most effective when it is done politely but firmly, and especially when the consumer can show clearly what is wrong with what was bought in question. If this cannot be done, the consumer will succeed best by presenting specific information as to what is wrong, rather than by making general statements. For example, “The left speaker does not work at all and the sound coming out of the right one is unclear” is better than “This stereo (立体音响) does not work”.
The store manager may advise the consumer to write to the producer, if so, the consumer should do this, stating the complaint as politely and as firmly as possible. But if a polite complaint does not achieve the expected result, the consumer can go a step further. He or she can threaten (恐吓) to take the seller to court or report the seller to a public organization responsible for protecting consumers’ rights.
56. When a consumer finds what he bought has a fault in it, he should first _____.
A. complain personally to the manager
B. show something provable in written form to the store
C. threaten to take the matter to court
D. writer a firm letter of complaint to the store
57. If a consumer wants a quick settlement of his problem, it’s better to complain to _____.
A. a shop assistant B. the producer
C. a public organization D. a store manager
58. The most effective complaint about what was bought can be made by _______.
A. showing the fault of it to the producer B. saying firmly it is of poor quality
C. asking politely to change it D. explaining exactly what is wrong with it
59. The passage tells us______.
A. how to make the complaint have a good effect
B. how to settle a consumer’s complaint
C. how to avoid buying something wrong
D. how to deal with complaints from consumers

CELEBRATIONS spread across China when Shanghai, the Oriental Pearl, was given the right to host the 2010 World Expo on December 3.
Shanghai won the honor after beating rivals from Russia, Mexico, Poland and South Korea.
“I’m very proud of being Chinese,” said Wang Kaibo, a Senior 2 student of the Middle School Affiliated to Beijing Medical University. “The winning of the expo is a victory, not only for Shanghai residents, but for the people of the whole Chinese nation.”

Every human being, no matter what he is doing, gives off body heat. The usual problem is how to get rid of it. But the designers of the Johnstown campus(校园)of the University of Pittsburgh set themselves the opposite problem — how to collect body heat. They have designed a collection system which uses not only body heat, but the heat given off by such objects as light bulbs and refrigerators as well. The system works so well that no fuel is needed to make the campus’s six buildings comfortable.
Some parts of most modern buildings — theaters and offices as well as classrooms, are more sufficiently heated by people and lights and sometimes must be air–conditioned(使用空调的)even in winter. The technique of saving heat and redistributing(再分配)it is called “heat recovery”. A few modern buildings recover heat, but the University’s system is the first to recover heat from buildings and reuse it in others.
Along the way, Pittsburgh has learned a great deal about some of its producers. The harder a student studies, the more heat his body gives off. Male students send out more heat than female students, and the larger a student is, the more heat he produces. We may conclude that the hottest prospect for the Johnstown campus would be a hard working overweight male genius.
69.What is the characteristic of the buildings on Johnstown campus of the University of Pittsburgh?
A.They collect body heat to control the temperature inside.
B.They are more comfortable to live in than other buildings.
C.They use the light bulbs to heat the classroom.
D.They use less fuel to keep the classroom cool.
70.According to the passage, the technique of heat recovery is used ________ .
A.to find the producers of heat B.to provide heat for the hot water system
C.to make the campus more beautiful D.to collect heat and reuse it
71.The underlined phrase “the hottest prospect” in this passage refers to .
A.the person who suffers most from heat B.the person who needs more heat that others
C.the person who gives off most heat D.the person who makes better use of heat
72.Which of the following may be the best title for this passage?
A.Recovery of Body Heat B.Modern Building’s Heat System
C.Body Heat and Its Producers D.Ways of Heating Building

A sixth of undergraduates in Beijing this year have registered at driving school. The students, mostly from majors such as business management or international trade, will finish their driving courses within 20 days or so.
Training costs have dropped to 2, 600 yuan for students, according to the Haidian Driving School in Beijing. The price is not really low, but students will accept it, seeing it as an investment (投资)in their future. Familiarity with the operation of computers and fluent English are the basic skills graduating students need to find a job. But a driver’s permit has become another factor (因素).
“In the job market, owning a driver’s permit sometimes strengthens a graduating student’s competitiveness for a good position, ”says Zhou Yang, an undergraduate at the China University of Political Science and Law.
Cars will become a necessary part of many people’s lives in the coming years, and it is difficult to get a permit of campus because of the pressures on working people’s time. “Having a fulltime job after graduation offers limited time to learn to drive. We senior students have plenty of spare time, plenty of opportunity to learn. ”Zhou says.
Xu Jian, an official at the driving school, said undergraduates were very able and serious, and could grasp in an hour what ordinary people took four hours to learn. In this driving school, middle -aged people, young women and college students are the main customers.
To get a driver’s permit, a beginner is now required to have at least 86 hours’practice before the final road test.
73.The undergraduates are learning to drive because ________.
  A. they need this skill to find a good job B. they like to drive cars
  C. they will not have any time to learn to drive after they have found a full - time job
  D. most of them will be able to buy cars in the future
74.Which of the following is likely to be Xu Jian’s opinion of students learning to drive?
  A. He thought it was better to learn it at college than at work.
  B. He decided it was a waste of money and time to learn to drive.
  C. He agreed that they could learn to drive.
  D. He thought they would spend three times more time to learn to drive than usual.
75.Which of the following can be the best headline for the passage?
  A. Students Pay Less to Learn to Drive Now.
  B. Students Learn to Drive.
  C. It is Better to Learn to Drive at Colleges.
D. Welcome to the Driving School.

范文:
As a middle school student, we should take an active part in creating a society that saves.
On one hand, the natural resources are limited. We don’t have enough water, oil or forest in many places. On the other hand, people keep cutting down more trees. At the same time, everyone can see that the environment is getting worse, people suffer from more natural disasters nowadays. What is worse, air and water pollution is becoming more and more serious.
In my opinion, we students should do something to stop wasting. We can save food, water, and paper, electricity, etc, in our daily life. Meanwhile, we should take buses instead of cars, refuse to use chopsticks which are only used once and don’t use plastic bags.
