III 阅读(共两节,满分40分)
第一节:阅读理解(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。
A
Friends play an important part in our lives, and although we may take the friendship for granted, we often don’t clearly understand how we make friends. While we get on well with a number of people , we are usually friends with only a very few – for example, the average among students is about 6 per person. In all the cases of friendly relationships, two people like one another and enjoy being together, but beyond that, the degree of intimacy(亲密) between them and the reasons for their shared interest vary
enormously(巨大地). As we get to know people we take into account things like age, race, economic condition, social position, and intelligence. Although these factors are not of prime importance, it is more difficult to get on with people when there is a marked difference in age and background.
Some friendly relationships can be kept on argument and discussion, but it is usual for close friends to have similar ideas and beliefs, to have attitudes and interests in common. They often talk about “ being on the same wavelength”. It generally takes time to reach this point. And the more intimately involved people become, the more they rely on one another. People want to do friends favors and hate to break a promise. Equally, friends have to learn to put up with annoying habits and to tolerate differences of opinion.
In contrast with marriage, there are no friendship ceremonials to strengthen the association between two people. But the supporting and understanding of each other that results from shared experiences and emotions does seem to create a powerful bond, which can overcome differences in background, and break down barriers of age, class or race.
41. To strengthen friendly relationship, people should ________.
A. get rid of differences in beliefs and attitude
B. hold friendship ceremonies
C. make friends with those who are of the same age
D. support and understand each other
42. The reader can learn from the passage that _________.
A. every student has 6 friends
B. everyone understands clearly how to make friends
C. all those who get on well with each other are close friends
D. friends are closer than people who just get on well with each other
43. Which of the following best explains why people take into consideration age and background when making friends?
A. The degree of friendship between two people and the reason for their shared interest and attitude can vary greatly.
B. It is not easy to have a friendly relationship with people when there is great difference in age and background.
C. People need to know all these things if they want to find a real friend.
D. These are the most important factors to make friends.
44. In Paragraph 2, “ being on the same wavelength” means ________.
A. being on the same boat B. keeping the same pace
C. being in harmony D. having similar background
45. Which of the following is not supported by the passage?
A. Close friends never argue with each other .
B. People tolerate annoying habits of their friends.
C. Even friends may have differences of opinions.
D. It takes time for people to become close friends.
B
TOKYO, Japan (AP) – Japan is very serious about robotics. If the droids are going to fit in, they probably need to learn the Japanese custom of serving tea. Fortunately, researchers at the University of Tokyo are exploring just that. In a show this week, a humanoid(有人特点的)with camera eyes made by Kawada Industries Inc. poured tea from a bottle into a cup.
Then another robot on wheels delivered the cup of tea in an experimental room that has sensors embedded in the floor and sofa as well as cameras on the ceiling, to simulate(模仿)life with robot technology.
“A human being may be faster, but you’d have to say ‘Thank you,’” said University of Tokyo professor Tomomasa Sato. “That’s the best part about a robot. You don’t have to feel bad about asking it to do things.”
Sato believes Japan, a rapidly aging society where more than a fifth of the population is 65 or older, will lead the world in designing robots to care for the elderly, sick and bedridden(卧床不起的). Already, monitoring technologies, such as sensors that automatically turn on lights when people enter a room, are becoming widespread in Japan.
The walking, child–size Asimo from Honda Motor Co. greets people at showrooms. NEC Corp. has developed a smaller companion robot–on –wheels called Papero. A seal robot available since 2004 can entertain the elderly and others in need of fuzzy companionship.
Sato says his experimental room is raising awareness about privacy questions that may arise when electronic devices monitor a person’s movements down to the smallest detail. On the bright side, the tea – pouring humanoid has been programmed to do the dishes.
46. What is the best title of this passage?
A. “Thank You” Will Never Be Needed in Japan
B. Monitoring Technologies Are Widespread in Japan
C. Robot Is Designed to Care for the Elderly.
D. Robot Serves Tea Just the Way Japanese Like it
47. The underlined word “embedded” in the second paragraph probably means _______ .
A. fixed B. established C. settled D. rooted
48. According to professor Sato, ________ .
A. the robot serves tea much faster than a human being
B. the robot does anything like human beings
C. tea – serving robot helps to form laziness of the aging society
D. tea – serving robot doesn’t need any reward for the service
49. Which of the following statements is NOT true?
A. A robot can imitate (模仿) people to complete complicated tasks
B. A robot has been programmed to clean the dishes
C. All the problems in the aging society can be solved by robots.
D. The number of aging people is increasing rapidly in Japan.
50. We can infer from the passage that _______ .
A. people are afraid of being monitored by robots.
B. the technology of robots has been highlighted (突出) in Japan.
C. robots can completely take the place of human beings.
D. people’s privacy should be strictly protected
C
Large companies need way to reach the savings of the public. The same problem, on a smaller scale, faces practically every company trying to develop new products and create new jobs. There can be little prospect of raising the money needed from friends and people we know, and while banks may agree to provide short-term loans, they are generally unwilling to provide money on a permanent basis for long products. So companies turn to the public, inviting people to lend them money, or take a share in the business in exchange for a share in future profits. They do this by issuing stocks and shares through the stock exchange. By doing so they can put into use the savings of individuals and institutions.
When the saver wants to have his money back, he does not have to go to the company which has borrowed his money. Instead, he sells his shares through a stockbroker to some other saver who is seeking to invest his money.
Many of the services needed both by industry, and by each of us are provided by the Government. Without hospital, roads, electricity, telephone, railways, etc., the country could not fun_ction. All these require continuous spending on new equipment if they are to serve us properly, requiring more money than is raised through taxes alone. The Government and industries therefore frequently need to borrow money to finance major capital spending, and they, too, go to stock exchange.
There is hardly a man or woman in the country whose job or whose standard of living does not depend on the ability of his or her employer to raise money to finance new development. In one way or another this new money must come from the savings of the country. The stock exchange exists to provide a channel through which these savings can reach those who need money.
51. The article mainly discusses ________.
A. investment through stock exchange.
B. services provided by the Government.
C. the savings of the public.
D. the role of stock exchange.
52. Companies borrow money from the public _______.
A. to finance long-term development
B. to provide public services for the people
C. when their friends refuse to offer help
D. when they are in danger of going bankrupt
53. The public buys and sells shares in order to __________.
A. raise money for the Government
B. invest his own money in business
C. offer support to those who need money
D. save companies that are in financial difficulty
54. We can learn from the third paragraph that ________
A. many services are provided by large companies
B. public services are important to the development of a country
C. the Government need to borrow from the stockbroker
D. taxes can provide all the money needed for public spending
55. According to the article ,the stock exchange can ________
A. manage company shares
B. reach the savings of the public
C. help savers in investing their money
D. do all of the above

阅读下面的短文,然后按照要求写一篇150词左右的英语短文。
We’ve collected all the 2100 questionnaires on school violence, which we handed out last month to middle school teachers, students and their parents.
67% students admitted that school violence did exist around them, who also expressed their fear of school violence. As to the question “Who is most likely to be involved in school violence?”, most students gave “rich students”, “students without interest in study” or “students who make friends with bad guys or wandering dropouts outside schools” as their answers. When asked what may be the cause of school violence, most students chose “money”, “showing power”, “girls”. According to the survey, 26% students have encountered school violence at least once.
98% of the parents questioned said they were often worried about the safety of their kids in the school. Some parents said that if their children didn’t return home an hour after school, they would, most of the time, expect something bad had happened to them. Many parents chose to accompany their children to school and back home every day for fear that their money might be extorted or they might be beaten by some other teenagers outside the school because of some conflicts in the school.
Teachers also expressed their great concern about the increasing number of the cases of school violence. Li Rong, a psychology professor from Lanzhou Medical College, appealed to the attention of the whole society to the mental health of adolescents, who are going through a special period of life and easily engage in violence as they are longing for a sense of success, which, if not achieved in study, will be attempted to get through fighting or other forms of violence.

基础写作 (共15分)
As there have been several accidents caused by students riding motorcycles these days in our city, our school held a survey yesterday among the students and teachers on whether middle school students could go to school by motorcycle. As is shown by the survey, students and teachers disagree greatly with each other on this question. Sixty percent of the students are in favor of students’ riding motorcycles to go to school while ninety percent of the teachers are against it. Students say it is convenient for them to go to school by motorcycle, which also saves them a lot of time on the way, but teachers think it dangerous and easy to bring accidents. In my point of view, students with a driving license can ride motorcycles to school for they have been permitted legally to do so and at the same time they should be careful while riding a motorcycle so as not to have themselves injured.

One possible version:
According to a recent survey, violence does exist in schools. Students show their fear and parents and teachers also express their great concern about it. Experts hope the whole society pay more attention to the mental health of adolescents.
Nowadays, school violence is a hot issue. I think this is a phenomenon which calls for our great concern. We should try every effort to prevent violence happening at school for more and more students would drop out of school if their personal safety could not be guaranteed. In fact, violence is a learned behavior. Children learn violent behaviors from adults or from what they see on television, on the Internet, in video games or movies.
If I meet with school violence, I will not answer violence with violence, for it will result in more fightings. I will tell my teachers or parents about it. I think they will help me deal with it well and they will protect me from the bad guys.
All in all, every student should behave himself and keep away from school violence.
