London-coffee protects mice from radiation and could get the same way in humans, according to Indian scientists.
Scientists at India's Bhabha Atomic Research Center discovered that mice injected with caffeine (咖啡因)remained alive after high doses(剂量) of normally lethal radiation. Although the study was limited to animals, Kachadilli George, head of the research team, believes the findings could have implications (something suggested) for humans.
"It does suggest that coffee might have some beneficial effects in protecting against radiation, "he told New Scientist magazine late last month. George and his team injected 471 mice with caffeine and left them uncovered to 7.5 grays of gamma radiation(伽玛线), enough to kill most mice. But 25 days later 70 percent of the mice that had received 80 milligrams(毫克) of caffeine per kilogram of body weight were still alive.

Culture shock is something you cannot avoid when living in a foreign country. It does not seem like a very helpful experience when you are going through its four stages. However, when you have completely adjusted to a new culture you can more fully enjoy it.
The first stage is called "the honeymoon". In this stage, you feel excited about living in a different place, and everything seems to be wonderful. You like everything, and everybody seems to be so nice to you. Also, the new amusement of life seems as though it will have no ending.
However, the second stage of culture shock appears. This is the "hostility stage". You begin to notice that not everything is as good as you had originally thought it was. You become tired of many things about the new culture. Moreover, people don't treat you like a guest any more. Everything wonderful at first is now awful and tiresome. Usually at this point in your adjustment to a new culture, you devise some defense mechanisms(机制) to help you cope and to protect yourself against the effects of culture shock..
The third stage is called "recovery'". In this stage, you start feeling more positive, and you try to develop comprehension of everything you don't understand. You recover from the symptoms of the first two stages, and you adjust yourself to the new norms, values, and even beliefs and traditions of the new country. You begin to see that even though the culture is different from your 6wn, it has elements that you can learn to appreciate.
The last stage of culture shock is called "adjustment". In this stage, you have reached a point where you actually feel good because you have learned enough to understand the new culture. The things that initially made you feel uncomfortable or strange are now things that you understand.

A. you have learned something from those elements you felt uncomfortable and strange
B. you understand what you didn't understand at first
C. you acquired enough language to help you to adjust

T-shirts, so-called because when you lay them out they look like the letter T, are such a universal item of clothing that it is surprising to realize that no one wore them except as underwear until the second half of the 20th century.
American soldiers serving in Europe in the 1914 ~1918 War were equipped with heavy wool uniforms, which were excessively hot during the humid summers. They noticed the French colleagues wore lightweight cotton shirts when the weather was hot. The nickname "T-shirt" for this useful piece of clothing quickly caught on - by the 1920s, it was already in Webster's Dictionary of American English. By the time of the 1939—1945 war, it had become standard tissue clothing for USA soldiers.
Originally, it was regarded as an undershirt, and was never worn as" outerwear". However, the performances of two changing Hollywood movie stars, Marion Brando and James Dean, changed all this. The two actors are usually credited with making the T-shirt a stylish and desirable piece of clothing. Very soon, it was an indispensable fashion item for American young men .
The popularity of T-shirts rocketed during the 1970s, when rock and roll bands realized that they could make significant amounts of money selling their T-shirts. Professional sports teams also adopted the idea, and big companies began to produce T-shirts with their logo on the front and gave them away to their customers. Very soon, T-shirts carrying the brand names of international brands became commonplace.
