关系代词有that, which, who, whom, whose, as等;关系副词有when, where, why等。

e.g. I was the only person in my office who was invited.
His dog, which was now very old, became ill and died.
2) Yesterday I met Li Lei, who seemed to be very busy.
1) Football, which is a very interesting game, is played all over the world.
2) All the books there, which have beautiful pictures in them, were written by him.
whose(也可指物)。
Miss Howe, whom you met in the library,
is our new teacher.
2) The Arabs, who are famous for their horses
and camels, use these animals for work and in
sports.
3) Li Ming, whose mother has been ill for two days, is absent from school today.
4) He lives in the city, where there is a high tower.
5) The People’s Republic of China was founded in 1949, when he was born.
6) Wu Dong, with whom I went to see the film, enjoyed it very much.
7) Her bag, in which she put all her books, has not been found.
8) The story about the Long March, of which this is an example, are well written.
由as, which 引导的非限定性定语从句,as和which可代整个主句,相当于and this或and that。
As we know, smoking is harmful to one’s health.
The sun heats the earth, which is very important to us.

Food and Drink Safety
Food and Drink Safety...
Food Guidelines:
Eat only meat and fish that have been thoroughly and recently cooked, not rewarmed. Beef and pork should be well done.
Avoid fish and shellfish species that are not known to you. Some harbor biotoxins that cooking cannot destroy.
Eat only cooked fruits and vegetables or fruits that you peel yourself.
Choose dairy products from large, commercial dairies (boiled milk is safest).
Wash the surface of fruits and vegetables before you slice them… bacteria can get inside if you don’t!
Avoid foods from street vendors.
Avoid salads and buffet style meals where food has been allowed to sit and cool.
Avoid foods from restaurants where questionable sanitation practices look likely.
Food and Drink Safety...
Drink Guidelines:
Preferred:
Boiled water
(Boil for 1 minute at altitudes below 6,562 ft. Boil 3 minutes at elevations above 6,562 ft.)
Beverages, such as tea and coffee, made with boiled water.
Canned or bottled carbonated beverages, including carbonated soft drinks, and water.
Not Preferred Alternatives (if Preferred methods unavailable):
Chemically treated water such as that treated with iodine and tetraglycine hydroperiodide tablets (e.g., Globaline, Potable-Aqua, or Coghlan's). These tablets are available from pharmacies and sporting goods stores.
Chlorine treatment is usually less effective than above iodine and tetraglycine hydroperiodide tablets.
Water filters should use reverse osmosis, have an absolute pore size of 1 micron or smaller, should be tested and certified by NSF Standard 53 or NSF Standard 58 for cyst removal, tested and certified by NSF Standard 53 or NSF Standard 58 for cyst reduction
Food and Drink Safety...
Beverages to Avoid:
Tap water by the
glass or in mixed drinks
Ice, frozen beverages from ice
Locally bottled water; these
bottles are sometimes filled with
local tap water
Uncapped bottled water
Water from lakes and streams, avoid swimming in these also as they themselves or their sources may be contaminated
Water that is cloudy or looks as if contains sediments
Remember to wash your hands often, especially before eating. You could have picked up disease causing germs from touching objects or shaking hands. These germs can be transferred to your mouth or your food.
If you are unable to wash your hands with soap and warm water, use a hand sanitizing gel.
Remember to use bottled water or boiled water when brushing teeth.
Avoid water in the mouth while showering.
Food and Drink Safety...
WASH YOUR HANDS!
Insect Bite Prevention
Insect-Bite Prevention... Mosquitoes:
Mosquitoes are carriers of
Dengue
Yellow Fever
Malaria
Japanese Encephalitis
NOTE: Mosquitoes cannot transmit HIV
Talk to a Health Care Provider who has specific knowledge of disease prevention and vaccine recommendations to decrease your risk of serious illness due to mosquitoes.
Do not trust local home remedies for Mosquito prevention, even from reputable sources in the country you are traveling. Most are unproven and unreliable.
Sleep in closed air conditioned rooms. Avoid prolonged evening activities when most mosquitoes are feeding.
A combination of insect repellant containing DEET, permethrin, and protective clothing is essential to protection (Even if you use a repellant you must also use protective clothing to decrease your exposure)
Insect-Bite Prevention...
Ticks and Biting Flies:
Ticks and Biting Flies are carriers for Lyme disease, tick-borne encephalitis, relapsing fever, typhus, leishmaniasis, onchocerciasis, trypanosomiasis, and several other diseases.
If not disease-causing, these bites can also make you miserable. Bites can cause localized swelling, itching, and be very painful.
A combination of insect repellant containing DEET, permethrin, and protective clothing is essential to protection. (DEET and permethrin are no guarantee of protection, protective clothing is also a must)
Insect-Bite Prevention... Insect Repellant:
Chemical Repellants
Repellants containing at least 30% DEET are preferred in adults and children 12 and older
Children 6 months to 12 years old should use DEET concentrations of 10% and apply less frequently
Children under 6 months of age should not use DEET containing products
Apply repellant lightly over exposed skin, do not saturate
Avoid inhalation of DEET or spraying in enclosed areas
Do not apply repellants on open cuts or inflamed,
irritated skin
Natural Repellants such as Citronella containing products
Not as effective as DEET products
Insect-Bite Prevention... Protective Clothing:
Wear heavy, long-sleeved shirts and long pants in areas of high mosquito concentration if possible.
Tucking pants into socks or boots can prevent both mosquito bites and tick attachment.
Permethrin products can be sprayed on clothing as an added prevention. Permethrin is an insecticide, not a repellant, and should not be used on the skin. Only DEET products are recommended for the skin for adults.
Insect-Bite Prevention: Night time Prevention
Mosquito nets are useful for night time use
Some of nets come impregnated with Permethrin. Permethrin sprays can also be be applied.
Make sure nets have no openings or tears
Do not sleep with the body next to the net as mosquitoes can feed through the net
Close all screens and doors if possible in the room you are sleeping
Use room insect sprays or coils to aid in protection
Protect yourself while you sleep!
Other things to know...
SAFETY FIRST!
The leading causes of injury or death among travelers are motor vehicle accidents and drowning.
Many of these accidents are a result of alcohol use.
Always observe water safety rules while swimming and boating, wear seat and shoulder belts when possible, wear helmets when traveling on a moped, motorcycle, or bicycle, and ALWAYS designate a driver if you plan to consume alcohol.
Protect yourself from robbery. Be aware of your surroundings. Carry as little cash as possible on your person. Be aware of scam artist who pray on Traveler’s.
Other things to know...
Sexual Contact:
Many infections are transmitted through sexual contact, such as hepatitis B, AIDS, and bacterial STDs.
Condoms provide some protection, but avoiding sexual contact is the only certain prevention.
Other Risky Activities:
Bring your own supply of needles and syringes for your medication needs.
Don’t trust tattoo parlors.
Don’t use illegal iv drugs or drink excessive amounts of alcohol. These activities may impair your judgment abilities and make you an easy target for robbery or physical harm.
Be careful when engaging in dangerous sporting activities, rock climbing, scuba diving in unknown areas, hiking in areas far off the beaten path. Activities such as these may put you at a risk for possible medical care from a facility with questionable sanitary protocols in place.
Rabies:
In some countries, rabies is just as prevalent among domestic animals as wild animals.
The most common carriers of rabies are dogs and bats.
ANY animal bites or scratches should be cleaned thoroughly and demand PROMPT medical attention. Rabies is most often always fatal.
In other words, no matter how sweet and cuddly an animal may look, DON’T PET IT!
Post Travel Check List
Most travelers return home with few associated problems relating to their trip. but some travelers return with serious infections from their trip many of which may not show up for 12 weeks to 12 months after return. Watch for signs indicating infection after your foreign travel including:
Fever, even low grade fever, up to 12 months after return
Skin lesions, sores, or rashes which don’t go away quickly
Breathing difficulty, chest tightness, wheezing, prolonged cough with or without mucous, difficulty swallowing
Body chills, shaking, prolonged headache, flu-like symptoms
Swelling or retention of fluid either bodily or in the extremities
Changes in mental status, dizziness, light-headedness, stiff neck, stiff joints, visual changes, changes in ability to control muscle movements

Unexplained weight loss, feeling tired, achy, consistent sore throat
Prolonged nausea, abdominal pain. Diarrhea which doesn’t subside or is present with blood or mucous
Dark colored urine or yellowing of the eyes
Remember to seek prompt medical attention for any unusual symptoms. Don’t ignore symptoms and tell your medical provider that you suspect an infection as a result of a trip to a foreign land. Don’t forget to continue taking ALL your anti-malarial medicine after your return.
