Unit 4 Sharing
Learning about language
Using language
Learning tip

(3) What can we do to help the poor people ? Ask them to design some ways to help poor people in groups.
Step 2 Scanning
2.What do people in the text help those people in poor areas?
Read the text and answer the following questions.
What does the page show you?
In what kind of order are the gifts listed? How much are the cheapest and dearest gifts?
What do the photos show you ?
And after that , the teacher may introduce the background of the text to Ss:
The reading passage is in the form of a page from the Internet. It is a catalogue of gifts to give people in developing countries. Instead of giving someone a gift, you have give them a card telling them that , on their behalf, you have sent money to an organization that supports people in developing countries. People in certain countries will benefit from your donation. They will not receive something as a gift but they will get what they earnestly need due to what you have paid for them . Don’t you think it is a better way to help them ?
Step 3 Skimming
3.What are those gifts included?
On the internet page, when you click on each gift, you get a description of that gift. In pairs , write the correct gift (A to U) from the Internet page next to each description below.
It gives the person buying the gift a better idea of the needs of people in those countries and what life must be like.
