In the past few years, quite a number of men and women have chosen to do something less competitive. They are afraid that the stress and strains of work will rob them 31 joy and happiness and do them harm both 32 (physic) and mentally.
In fact, however, stress isn’t the bad thing 33 it is often supposed to be. Stress is a natural part of everyday life and 39 is no way to avoid. What we can do is to develop our adaptive abilities to deal with it rather than to 40 from it.
Ⅲ. 阅读理解 (共两节,满分40分)
第一节 阅读理解(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)
阅读下面短文,从每题所给的四个选项中选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。
A
Forgiving someone who has hurt you or let you down is never an easy thing. Several new studies, however, say that it could have a lot of health benefits. When you think of forgiveness, you probably don’t think of it as being a health or medical problem. Studies from Stanford University, on the other hand, show that something like anger can change your well-being.
When cartoon book characters like the Incredible Hulk get angry, they change colours and often gain special power. In the real world, anger is less obvious and may be more dangerous. That’s why Professor Fred Luskin, founder of the Stanford Forgiveness Project and author of Forgive for Good, says holding on to anger and hatred can harm your physical and mental health. Two new studies seem to show the same idea.
The studies find that people who are able to forgive feel less stress, less back pain, and less depression. They also have fewer headaches, lower blood pressure, and fewer problems on sleeping.
So it doesn’t matter if your anger is caused by the traffic or other things. Learning to let it go is important. Techniques such as deep breath or thought can help. Or just ask yourself if it’s worth hurting yourself by staying angry with someone else.
Forgiveness does not mean that you simply accept what happened and say it’s OK. Instead, it’s a way of making peace with yourself about what happened in the past.
41. The author of the passage tries to make his viewpoint clear ______.
A. by raising his own examples B. based on his own experience

D. show how to control one’s temper
43. The underlined phrase “holding on to” in this passage possibly means“______”.

45. The best title for this passage is probably _______.

Dogs are social animals and without proper training, they will behave like wild animals. They will spoil your house, destroy your belongings, bark excessively, fight other dogs and even bite you. Nearly all behavior problems are perfectly normal dog activities that occur at the wrong time or place or are directed at the wrong thing. The key to preventing or treating behavior problems is learning to teach the dog to redirect its normal behavior to outlets(出路) that are acceptable in the domestic setting.
One of the best things you can do for your dog and yourself is to obedience train (驯服) it. Obedience training doesn't solve all behavior problems, but it is the foundation for solving just about any problem. Training opens up a line of communication between you and your dog. Effective communication is necessary to instruct your dog about what you want it to do.
Training is also an easy way to establish the social rank order. When your dog obeys a simple request of “come here, sit,” it is showing obedience and respect for you. It is not necessary to establish yourself as top dog or leader of the dog pack (群) by using extreme measures. You can teach your dog its subordinate (从属的) role by teaching it to show submission to you. Most dogs love performing tricks for you to pleasantly accept that you are in charge.
Training should be fun and rewarding for you and your dog. It can enrich your relationship and make living together more enjoyable. A well-trained dog is more confident and can more safely be allowed a greater amount of freedom than an untrained animal.
46. Behavior problems of dogs are believed to _________.
A. be just part of their nature B. worsen in modern society
C. occur when they go wild D. present a threat to the community
47. The primary purpose of obedience training is to __________.
A. teach the dog to perform clever tricks
B. make the dog aware of its owner's authority
C. provide the dog with outlets for its wild behavior
D. enable the dog to regain its normal behavior
48. Effective communication between a dog and its owner is ___________.
A. essential to solving the dog's behavior problems
B. the foundation for dogs to perform tasks
C. a good way to teach the dog new tricks
D. an extreme measure in obedience training
49. Why do pet dogs love performing tricks for their masters?
A. To avoid being punished. B. To show their affection for their masters.
C. To win leadership of the dog pack. D. To show their willingness to obey.
50. When a dog has received effective obedience training, its owner ___________.
A. can give the dog more rewards B. will enjoy a better family life
C. can give the dog more freedom D. will have more confidence in himself
C
On average, American kids aged 3 to 12 spent 29 hours a week in school, eight hours more than they did in 1981. They also did more household work and participated in more of such organized activities as soccer and ballet (芭蕾舞). Involvement in sports, in particular, rose almost 50% from 1981 to 1997: boys now spend an average of four hours a week playing sports; girls log hall that time. All in all, however, children's leisure time dropped from 40% of the day in 1981 to 25%.
"Children are affected by the same time crunch (危机) that affects their parents," says Sandra Hofferth, who headed the recent study of children's timetable. A chief reason, she says, is that more mothers are working outside the home. (Nevertheless, children in both double-income and "male breadwinner" households spent comparable amounts of time interacting with their parents: 19 hours and 22 hours respectively. In contrast, children spent only 9 hours with their single mothers.)
All work and no play could make for some very messed-up kids. "Play is the most powerful way a child explores the world and learns about himself," says T. Berry Brazelton, professor at Harvard Medical School. Unstructured play encourages independent thinking and allows the young to negotiate their relationships with their peers, but kids aged 3 to 12 spent only 12 hours a week engaging in it.
The children sampled spent a quarter of their rapidly decreasing "free time" watching television. But that, believe it or not, was one of the findings parents might regard as good news. If they're spending less time in front of the TV set, however, kids aren't replacing it with reading. Despite efforts to get kids more interested in books, the children spent just over an hour a week reading. Let's face it, who's got the time?
51. By mentioning "the same time crunch" (Line 1, Para. 2) Sandra Hofferth means _______.
A. children have little time to play with their parents
B. children are not taken good care of by their working parents
C. both parents and children suffer from lack of leisure time
D. both parents and children have trouble managing their time
52. According to the author, the reason given by Sandra Hofferth for the time crunch is _______.
A. quite convincing B. partially true
C. totally groundless D. rather confusing
53. According to the author, a child develops better if _______.
A. he has plenty of time reading and studying
B. he is left to play with his peers in his own way
C. he has more time participating in school activities
D. he is free to interact with his working parents
54. The author is concerned about the fact that American kids _______.
A. are engaged in more and more structured activities
B. are increasingly neglected by their working mothers
C. are spending more and more time watching TV
D. are involved less and less in household work
55. We can infer from the passage that _______.
A. extracurricular activities promote children's intelligence
B. most children will turn to reading with TV sets switched off
C. efforts to get kids interested in reading have been fruitful
D. most parents believe reading to be beneficial to children

[写作内容]
现在许多中小学学生都带手机上学。假如你是李东,请给你的弟弟通过email写一封信,建议他不要带手机上学。内容包括:
带手机上学的现象很普遍;
有些学生不能正确使用手机,结果影响休息和学习;
作为中学生,平时不宜和外面的“朋友”联系;
Reading exercises a great influence on a person. If pictures, still or moving, accompany the reading, the memory will keep half the material for a long time.
Don’t believe those who say that bad reading cannot hurt a person. How do they know what will hurt other? Wouldn’t you rather believe the experience of the ages that says, “A man is what he has read” and “Our reading and studies carry over into our lives”?
Let’s get back to the beneficial effects of thinking while reading. It helps us to enlarge our minds. We understand more about the universe, its people and many of its wonders. We learn to think and observe in new ways. We certainly do get a feeling for the language we are reading. All good writers in any language have been readers who read critically and creatively and continuously.
Finally, reading will and must broaden my sympathies, expand my love for others and set it in action. How can a person who has a bit of kindness in his heart read about all the miseries and tragedies that people and nations have and not want to do and actually do what he can to relieve those people in every way he can and as much as he can?
[写作内容]
1.概括短文的内容要点,该部分的字数大约30词左右;
2.就“读书的目的和意义”这个主题发表你的看法,至少包含以下的内容要点,该部分的字数大约120词左右:

b) 结合自己的读书经历来说明读书对你的启示和重要性。
[写作要求]
可以使用实例或分项论述的方法支持你的论点,也可以参照阅读材料的内容,但不能直接引用原文中的句子;
标题自定。

Dear younger brother,
I’m writing to discuss with you the problem of bringing along the mobile phone to school. First, it’s very common for young people to have a mobile phone nowadays for life has been improved a lot, but many students cannot have used it in a proper way, thus interrupting the class and even affecting their studies. Moreover, as a middle school student, we don’t have to get in touch with others during our studies. So I hope you can draw some useful lessons from the failure of others. Finally, I’ll make it clear to you that it’s not a wise choice to bring your mobile phone along when you go to school.
Love,
Li Dong
第二节 任务型写作(满分25分)
The Significance and Purpose of Reading
The passage mainly tells us reading can influence a person both positively and negatively. It can enlarge our minds, improve our thinking and expand our love and sympathies which in turn facilitate our actions, but bad reading also hurts.
As far as I’m concerned, reading plays a very important role in life. It provides a source of satisfaction and pleasure, but also serves as a means to seek information and to acquire, develop and apply knowledge. People read to develop thinking skills, to enhance language proficiency and to broaden life experience, too.
For example, people advocate learning English through reading English novels. This method did not work miracle for me until one day when I was engaged in the story, I got the same enjoyment as I read Chinese novels. Then I realized that I shouldn’t let the pressure of learning ruin my enjoyment of reading. English is not and will never be the end by itself. The world through it is more fantastic and pleasant. This is what I have got from reading.
