Task Making an exhibition board about a composer

Teaching Aims:
1. Teach students to learn how to listen for facts about people
2. Teach students to learn how to find out about people’s lives
3. Teach students to learn how to write someone’s biography
Teach steps:
Step 1: Leading-in
Give some pictures about a star who students like and ask them to think about what information they want know about the star.
Step 2: First listening
Have students to listen to Part A and complete the notes on P26. Remind students to focus only on the first column. Check the answers.
Step 3: Second listening
1. Have students to listen to Part B and fill in the blanks as many as possible.
2. Play the tape a second time and stop after each answer or sentence.
3. Check the answers.
Step 4. Reading
Ask the students to read the information about the three famous composers in Part C and then complete the chart in Part B. Then check the answers.
Step 5. Asking for further information
Have students work in pairs to do role-play activity. One asks questions and the other answers them using the question above and the prompts below. Switch roles when they finish.
Step 6 : Wring someone’s life story
1. Help the students to review the information about Mozart they have got.
2. Ask the students to use the information that they gathered to write the life story of Mozart.
Step 7 : Homework
1. Finish the exercises on P112-113

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
(1756-1791)
Early years
Born on 27 January 1756, in Salzburg, Austria, Mozart showed remarkable talent in music. His father was a successful composer and served as his first musical tutor. At the age of five, Mozart started writing classical music. He composed his first opera at the age of twelve in 1768.
Achievements
Some of the famous music that he wrote included:
The Marriage of Figaro, which he wrote for the Vienna Opera, one of the world’s best-known opera houses.
Don Giovanni, another successful opera he wrote in 1787
The Magic Flute, written in 1791, just before he died later the same year.
Family
In 1782, Mozart married Constanze Weber, a young woman from Germany.The album included the song “The Sound of Silence”, which was a number one hit in the pop charts.
