Unit 5 music
Period 3（Listening, reading and talking）
Teaching aims:
1. train students’ listening ability by listening to the story about Freedy
2. develop students’ reading skills by extensive reading and enable them to learn how to use different reading skills to read different reading materials.
3. enable the students to express their opinions on the pain of being famous
Teaching methods:
1. task-based teaching and learning
2. cooperative learning
3. discussion
Teaching Procedures:
Step 1 warming up
1. ask the students discuss in pairs how their life would change if they became famous overnight
2. let the students reading the following words.（page 38 EX2） Make sure that they know their meanings before listening
Step 2 listening
1. play the tape for the students to get the main ideas of the listening text
2. play the tape again and then do the true or false questions.
3. ask the student to listen to it again and try to fill in the blanks in the screen
Step 3 reading
1. fast reading
ask the students to read the passage as fast as they can and try to answer the question : did Freddy and his band get a great success in Britain
2. detailed reading
ask the students to read the passage carefully and answer four questions on the screen.
3. discovering useful words and expressions
discuss with the students the useful words and expressions in the part to make sure that they can use them correctly
Step 4 discussion
After reading the story ask them to work in groups and discuss the following questions
1. What do you think are the advantages and disadvantages of being famous give examples
2. What are advantages of not being famous give examples
3. Do you think you would enjoy being famous Give reasons
Step 5 homework
