Objectives:
1). Knowledge: Enable Ss to learn the importance of first aid.
Get Ss to know burns and learn to give first aid when someone is burned.
2). Skills: Get students familiar with reading skills, like skimming, scanning.
3). Feelings and attitudes: Increase the Students’ awareness of the importance of knowing about first aid.
Key points and difficult points: Help Students judge types of burns and how to give first aid in this situation.
Teaching methods: Ask-answer, skimming, scanning, discussion

Teaching procedure
Step1:Warming-up &Lead-in
T: Look at this picture, what is this
S: It’s an ambulance.
T: Yes. It’s an ambulance. What does the number 120 mean (在黑板上写下ambulance, 120)
S: When someone gets injured, we can dial it for help.
T: You are right. Get injured means受伤. (在黑板上写下get injured 受伤 ) We can dial it for medical help. In our daily life, we may come across all kinds of injuries. Look at this picture, what has happened So sometimes, we may cut our arms and bleed badly; when we are having meals, we may choke on a piece of food; when we are playing sports, we may sprain our ankle; we may also have a bloody nose. We all know it takes time to find a doctor. So, what should we do to help those people who get injured It needs quick and correct help to reduce the injury to the least. Today we will start a new unit----Unit 5 first aid.(黑板写下unit 5 first aid.)It’s a very interesting topic. If you learn the knowledge of first aid well, may be one day, you will use it to save someone’s life. So, it is very useful and important. Who can tell me the definition of first aid That is to say, what is first aid (If you don’t know, you can look at page 33, the first sentence.) T: Yes. She will have bad burns. Think about it: when someone gets burned, what should we do OK, after we learn the text, we will know how to help this girl.
设计说明:本环节通过120救护车导入急救这一话题,再让学生看看生活中常见的伤害,虽然时间花不多,但很有相关性,其中处理一些生词和词组, 如get injured ,ambulance, fall ill 等, 再通过让学生看图片思考如果烫伤了该怎么办,自然地过到渡文章来。

T: Now, let’s read the text. For the first time, you should read it quickly; you’d better read only the title of the text and the headings within it. Skim for the general idea. Then do comprehending exercise 1 on Page 35. I’ll give you 2minutes.

设计说明:本环节是本节课的重点,通过对文章一段一段地分析讲解,学生可以掌握一些词组,生词,以及文章中作者告诉我们的烧伤的起因,种类,性状,和急救措施。由于段落有难有易,所以时间的安排也是有长短的,而不是均等的。各段采用不同的方式,有填空,填表格,回答问题等,不至于太单一化。

Activity 1: Discussion
T:Now,you have known how to deal with burns. Discuss the following situations: whether they are right or wrong

Activity 2: Answer the questions
T: we have learned the whole text; here are two questions for you.
1. Why should you put cold water on a burn
2. Why doesn’t a third degree burn hurt
Think about them for 1 minute, I will ask two students to answer.
Key: 1.Because the cold water stops the burning process, stops the pain and reduces swelling.
2. Because in a third degree burn the nerves are damaged. If there are no nerves, there is no pain.
Activity 3: Consolidation
Review what have learned in this period.
设计说明:读后环节有3个小活动,第一个是讨论对错,意在测试学生对烧伤急救正确措施的掌握。第二步是让学生回答2个问题,问题的答案书上也有的,比较容易。第三步是巩固环节,回顾一下本节课所学的,在学生头脑里留下更深刻的印象。
