Teaching Aim:
(1) to read a letter of complaint
(2) to learn to write a letter of complaint
Stage 1 introduction of the topic
Stage 2 reading extensively
①read for the first time and match the titles with the paragraphs
②read for the second time and focus on the linking words
Stage 3 uses of the linking words
Some exercises are set for students. After knowing the meanings of these linking words, students should know how to use them and try to use some in their writing.
Stage 4 Before students write the letter, they can refer to writing help on page 98.

Teaching Aim:
(1) Wars are the most serious conflicts. Students are introduced four war memories. After reading the text, they should have a deeper understanding of wars.
(2) to learn some reading strategies—reading under pressure
1. Decide how long you need to spend on each task.
2. Read the questions and decide what strategies you need to answer them.
3. If you have difficulty with a question, don’t spend too long on it. Move on to the next one—you can always go back to it later.
4. Don’t leave a question unanswered—guess the answer!
