Thank you for your concern about the people in the earthquake-hit areas in China. Over 50 thousand people were killed and tens of thousand were wounded in the sudden and unexpected earthquake disaster, which struck several areas of China on May 12, 2008. Of all the affected areas, Wenchuan and Beichuan suffered the most. The disaster was destructive, which destroyed power facilities, cutting off power supplies in many areas and so did communicating facilities. Houses were in ruins. Railways and roads were alsoblocked. As a result, huge losses were caused.
Our party and government showed great concern to the local people. No sooner had the disaster happened than the government taken urgent measures to respond to the disaster. So far we have sent thousands of soldiers, technical workers, policemen, and medical workers to these areas. People all over China and in some other countries have donated a lot of food, clothes and money to help. Now things are improving.
Looking back upon the experience, I feel that united, we’re strong. The efforts of the Chinese government and the Chinese people in face of hardships will be always appreciated. Through the whole nation’s efforts I think we can overcome the difficulty through our hard work.
