阅读下面短文,从36---55题所给的四个选项中选出最佳选项。
I consider myself something of an expert on apologies. A quick temper has 36 me with plenty of opportunities to make them. In one of my earliest 37 , my mother is telling me, “Don’t watch the 38 when you say ‘I’m sorry’. Hold your head up and look the person in the 39 , so he’ll know you 40 it.”
My mother thus made the key point of a(n) 41 apology: it must be direct. You must never 42 to be doing something else. You do not 43 a pile of letters while apologizing to a person 44 in position after blaming him or her for a mistake that turned out to be your 45 . You do not apologize to a hostess, whose guest of honor you treat 46 , by sending flowers the next day without mentioning your bad 47 .
One of the important things you should do for an 48 apology is readiness to 49 the responsibility for our careless mistakes. We are used to making excuses, which leaves no 50 for the other person to 51 us. Since most people are open-hearted, the no-excuse apology leaves both parties feeling 52 about themselves. That, after all, is the 53 of every apology. It 54 little whether the apologizer is wholly or only partly at fault: answering for one’s 55 encourages others to take their share of the blame.
36. A.provided B.mixed C.compared D.treated
37. A.dreams B.courses C.memories D.ideas
38. A.side B.ground C.wall D.bottom
39. A.mind B.soul C.face D.eye
40. A.imagine B.enjoy C.mean D.regret
41. A.useful B.successful C.equal D.basic
42. A.pretend B.forget C.refuse D.expect
43. A.hold on B.put away C.look through D.pick up
44. A.poorer B.weaker C.worse D.lower
45.A.fault B.reason C.result D.duty
46.A.cruelly B.freely C.roughly D.foolishly
47.A.manners B.excuses C.efforts D.roles
48.A.active B.effective C.extra D.easy
49.A.raise B.perform C.admit D.bear
50.A.situation B.need C.sign D.room

English “fever” is sweeping the whole country. With Beijing and Shanghai winning bids to hold the 2008 Olympic Games and the 2010 World Expo respectively(各自), more and more people are plunging themselves into learning English. It is reported that 30 million or more Chinese people are learning English.
With the language now compulsory (必做的)for the students from primary schools to institutions of higher learning, English education has become an important part of China’s education system. Every year, millions of people take various forms of English courses. College students attending the CET(College English Test) are growing in number.
The result is not that cheerful as it was reported by some media, for nearly 10 percent of students graduating from universities in China are prepared to work for transnational co-operations. The problem is that many cannot put what they have learnt into practice though they have spent, more or less, 10 years studying English.
The majority of people who learn English do so for the sake of gaining diplomas(文凭). In order to get academic degrees, college students should pass the CET-4 or the CET-6 according to different requirements. However, it is very common that numerous students cannot use English to communicate even though they have passed the CET.
Various English tests have also stopped students from pursuing further study. For example, the English score is of great importance when applying for postgraduate(研究生)study.
The Ministry of Education is now carrying out the reform of the curriculum(课程),which will stress communication skills and practical use. A more scientific and effective English education system will be established in the years to come though the road is rather arduous(艰难的)and bumpy(崎岖不平的).

When building houses, people used to think about not only the climate of the areas but also the building materials and the fashions for their houses. However, since electricity became more and more expensive, people began to pay much more attention to the energy they could get for their houses and the new ways they could find to protect their houses from both cold and heat.
Now, houses of an old yet new typehave been widely built. In some parts of the world, people share their houses with their livestock(家畜). During cold weather, they gather their cows, goats or other animals and keep them on the first floor of their houses. The reason are that the animals can be protected from the cold and they can help to heat the houses as well. The body heat given off by the animals rises to the second floor of the houses, where people live. By sharing their houses with their livestock, people gain a source of heat.
People who live in or near cities do not usually keep livestock. However, home builders use the fact that heat rises. This natural law can be used in building houses in these areas. Instead of keeping livestock on the first floor, builders fill it with large rocks. As they are open to the sun’s rays during cold weather, these rocks take in heat. They also give off the heat, and of course, the warm air rises into the living areas of the houses. So these houses are energy-saving.
House building becomes a great challenge to building designers and energy engineers. They try to meet this challenge by learning from the traditions and by using modern technology. And someday in the future, people will be able to live in more energy-saving houses.
60.What did people began to consider as electricity was no longer cheap
A. The climate of their areas. B. The vuilding materials for their houses

62. The underlined words “natural law” in the third paragraph refer to the fact that_____.
A. heat raises the temperature in the houses B. heat goes in the upward direction
C. heat goes up if temperature is raised D. heat increases the temperature of rock
63. From the passage, we can conclude that _____.
A. people will no longer consider building materials in the future
B. energy-saving buildings will become more popular in the future
C. almost all the people will move into the houses heated by large rocks
D. energy engineers will devote themselves only to modern technology

Art museums are places where people can learn about various cultures. The increasingly popular “design museums” that are opening today, however, perform quite a different role. Unlike most art museums, the design museum shows objects that are easily found by the general public. These museums sometimes even place things like fridges and washing machines in the centre of the hall.
People have argued that design museums are often made use of as advertisements for new industrial technology. But their role is not simply a matter of sales---it is the honoring of excellently invented products. The difference between the window of a department store and the showcase in a design museum is that the first tries to sell you something, while the second tells you the success of a sale.
One advantage of design museums is that they are places where people feel familiar with the exhibits. Unlike the average art museum visitors, design museum visitors seldom feel frightened or puzzled. This is partly because design museums clearly show how and why mass-produced products work and look as they do, and how design has improved the quality of our lives. Art museum exhibits, on the other hand, would most probably fill visitors with a feeling that there is something beyond their understanding.
In recent years, several new design museums have opened their doors. Each of these museums has tried to satisfy the public’s growing interest in the field with new ideas. London’s Design Museum, for example, shows a collection of mass-produced objects from Zippo lighters to electric typewriters to a group of Italian fish-tins. The choices open to design museums seem far less strict than those to art museums, and visitors may also sense the humorous part of our society while walking around such exhibits as interesting and usually attractive toys collected in our everyday life.
64. Showcases in design museums are different from store windows because they_____.
A. show more technologically advanced products B. help increase the sales of products
C. show why the products have sold well D. attract more people than store windows do
65. The author believe that most design museum visitors ______.
A. do not admire mass-produced products B. are puzzled with technological exhibits
C. dislike exhibits in art museums D. know the exhibits very well
66. The choices open to design museums______.
A. are not as strict as those to art museums B. are not aimed to interest the public
C. may fail to bring some pleasure to visitors D. often contain precious exhibits
67. Te best title for this passage is______.
A. The Forms of Design Museums B. The Exhibits of Design Museums
C. The Nature of Design Museums D. The Choices Open To Design Museums

Tom Brennan was working in a Philadelphia office building when he noticed a black bag. The bag contained a book.
This chance discovery ended a 12-day search by the Library Company of Philadelphia for a historical treasure--a 120-page diary kept 190 years ago by Deborah Logan,” a woman who knew everybody in her day,” James Green, the librarian told the magazine American Libraries.
Most of the diary is a record of big events in Philadelphia. It also includes a description of British soldiers burning Washington D.C in the war of 1812. She describes President James Madison on horseback as “perfectly shaking with fear” during the troubled days. George Washington, she writes, mistook her for the wife of a French man and praised her excellent English .
The adventure of the lost book began on September 4 when Cory Luxmoore arrived from England to deliver the diary of his ancestor to the Library Company, which he and his wife considered to be the best home for the diary.
Green told American Libraries he had the diary in his possession “ about five minutes” when Luxmoore took it back because he had promised to show it to one other person. On returning to his hotel after showing the precious book to Green, Luxmoore was shocked to realize that he had left it in the taxi.
Without any delay, Green began calling every taxi company in the city, with no luck, “I've felt sick since then,” Luxmoore told reporters.
According to Green, no one has yet learned how the diary came to the office building .
Tom Brennan received a reward (奖励)of $1,000, Philadelphia gained another treasure for its history, and Luxmoore told reporters, “It’s wonderful news. I’m on high”.

COLUMBUS,Ohio-The heart operation taking place in the pale-green operating room at the Ohio State University Medical Center was unusual. The patient, a 62-year-old man,was made to sleep, tied with blue drapes(消毒帷帘)and lying face up on a narrow table. But no one was touching him.
Instead, the operation was being performed by a robot, whose three metal arms went through pencil-sized holes in the man’s chest. At the ends of the robot’s arms were tiny metal fingers, with turning wrists, which held a tiny instrument, a light and a camera. The robot’s arms and fingers were controlled by Dr. Randall K. Wolf, sitting at a computer in a corner of the operating room about 20 feet away.
This sort of operation, heart surgeons say,is the start of what may be the biggest change in their profession since heart bypass surgery(心脏搭桥手术)began nearly 30 years ago. “The reason why we make cuts is that we have big hands,” said Dr. Wolf, the director of the surgery at Ohio State. The robot’s dainty fingers, no longer than a nail on the small finger, at the end of the long sticks could work better.
Eventually, surgeons believe, most heart surgery will be done by robots whose arms are put in through pencil-sized holes punched in patients’ chests. Instead of directly staring into a patient’s body, surgeons will view magnified images of the operation on computer screens. In theory, the doctor would not have to be in the same room, or even the same country, as the patient.
73.Find in the passage a word closest in meaning to the underlined word “dainty”.
74.According to the passage, why do most operations require large cuts (回答词数不超过5个)
75.What is the main idea of this passage (回答词数不超过8个)

Technical and technological skills will take on greater importance. There will be a growing need for people who can understand and fix systems—from computer systems to product distribution systems to plumbing(管道工程)systems.
Visionary(想像) skills will be in demand. The ability to gather and absorb a wide range of input, then use that knowledge, understanding, and perspective(观察) to guide organization into future, will be vital.
Numbers and measurement will be important, of course, but smoothing the flow from month to month, from quarter to quarter will be essential for highly profitable long-term performance. Practically every company will have to move away from today’s obsession(困扰)with looking ahead only as far as the next financial reporting period.
Ability to organize will definitely be important in the corporation of the future. Everywhere there will definitely be important in the corporation of the future. Everywhere there will be a need to organize something: resources, workflow, marketing mix, financial opportunities, and much more, all will demand high levels of organization.

The top employees of the coming century will be flexible, creative and motivated toward making a positive difference in the world. A heated debate
We’ve had a debate about whether middle school students should do social practice. The prons think middle school students should do social practice. They believe social practice caan help them know more about the things around them and give them much experience. By doing so, the students’ ability can be developed. Besides, they can put what they have learned from the books into practice.
On the other hand, the cons think that middle school students don’t have to do social practice, because they are too young to fit the world/ society. They say it’s a waste of time and energy. What’s more. There are no such chances.
The whole debate was really heated.
