A
With the launch of the exploratory Chang’e 1 lunar orbiter on Oct.24,2007, more people are dreaming of one day living on the moon. NASA has said this could be a reality within the next 20 years. So what sort of lifestyle can the first lunar residents(居民) expect
Housing
The moonbases of science fiction tend to be spacious(宽敞的),glass domes(圆顶)in which lunar residents wander around in futuristic jumpsuits. But the reality will be a bit different.
“Domes are not very good at filtering(过滤;渗透)our solar radiation, says Professor Colin Pillinger of the Open University in the UK. “If you have a solar storm, you don’t want a nice little glass dome over you. You want something a bit more substantial(坚固的;实质的).(Solar radiation, by the way, could give you cancer.)
Health
The biggest challenge to setting up a base on the moon is the danger of living in an environment with no gravity. Scientists have found that muscles and bones start wasting away in zero gravity. It’s uncertain whether the same thing would happen on the moon, which has one-sixth of the Earth’s gravity.
As for radiation from the sun, the surface of the moon appears to be safe enough. But no one knows the consequences(后果) of spending a long time there.
Food and Water
In the short term, food would have to be brought from the Earth. The dream, however, is to grow things in greenhouses on the moon. This would involve suspending(使悬浮)plants in a nutrientrich solution(溶液)of water.
Water is not a big problem. Scientists suspect that the moon’s south pole has large pools of frozen water. These could be mined and used to drink and create oxygen for habitats.
Transportation
Dr.Harrison Schmitt, who landed on the moon in 1972, has said that astronauts can move around the moon by cross-country skiing.
But this isn’t a long-term solution. Something similar to the buggy(小型敞蓬车)designed for 1970s Apollo missions would allow residents to explore beyond the backyard of their moon home. They could even use the buggy to transport heavy equipment.

A. in a rainforest B. close to mountains
C. the moon’s south pole D. lakes
42. Which of the following statements is perhaps the better transportation on the moon
A. cross-country skiing B. buggy
C. bus D. plane
43. From the text we know that .
A. a person started wasting away B. there are many people living on the moon

D. you don’t want a nice little glass dome over you if you have a solar storm

Thank you for your optimism looking for brightness in the dark, and over the past several days we have used our warm to melt the ice and snow. Snowstorms have hit southern china, it is unprecedented. The roads of many people back home have been blocked. Facing such a disaster, the central government, POA and people from all works of life have contributed and make a certain efforts to help each other. Such a year should be merited; we can feel the warmth in each other’s hearts.
Low temperature, freezing cold, ice rain, silver thaws……all come suddenly, looming by the end of the year. Our southern homeland that used to be luxuriantly green has entered 2008 devastated by ice and snow.
Everywhere is white; highways have been closed, travellers have been stranded at railway stations, flights have been cancelled. The electric railway linking north and south has been paralyzed by a lack of power. East China, Central China, South China, Hunan, Jiangxi, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan,… Electricity and coal supplies are in crisis, food is in great need. Life of the people at the disaster areas has been taking unprecedented challenges……
Many tens of thousands of sisters and brothers have been caught up in this sudden natural disaster. They are delayed on their way home. In the cold winter, their smiling faces are frozen. The rain and snow dampen the joy of reunion…The whole nation is rallying round to help. From Party and government leaders to ordinary people, all are worried about those who are left stranded by the snowstorm.
Based on the government’s detailed plan, the greatest-ever fight against a natural disaster is under way. The Beijing to Guangzhou Railway, blocked by ice, is a focus of concern. People in the disaster areas are united under their leaders. Party and government leaders were first to the front. They lead, and the difficulties are overcome together.
In field tents in the disaster areas soldiers bring hot noodles and tea to people. In the dark city streets where there is no electricity, the policemen light up the scene with their headlamps. Many volunteers light candles for the old people living on their own. They form a great alliance of love.
One city after another opens its arms to the stranded passengers and tells them: ”Stay with us; this is your home.” Let’s celebrate Spring Festival together. Let’s warm each other amid the snow.
The difficulties will pass. Chinese people are strong in the face of disaster. The ice may freeze sky and earth, but not our love or the coming of spring.
Tonight is New Year’s eve. Spring Festival has finally arrived. At this moment, you may be at home. If you are on your way, don’t worry. For the snow is being melted by warm wishes.
We believe that the fight against the blizzards will become a never-to-be-forgotten memory. There are so many people to whom we should express our gratitude. You may be one of them. Harmonious China has brought people together to face this crisis shoulder-to-shoulder. United, the nation will win the battle and welcome the coming of spring.

Animation means making things which are lifeless come alive and move.
Since earliest times, people have always been astonished by movement. But not until last century have we managed to take control of movement,to record it,and in the case of animation,to retranslate it and recreate it.To do all this,we use a movie camera and a projector(放映机).
In the world of cartoon animation, nothing is impossible. You can make the characters do exactly what you want them to do.
A famous early cartoon character was Felix the Cat,created by Pat Sullivan in America in the early nineteen twenties.Felix was a wonderful cat.He could do all sorts of things no natural cat could do like taking off his tail, using it as a handle and then putting it back.
Most of the great early animators lived and worked in America, the home of the moving picture industry.
But to be an animator, you don’t have to be a professional(专业人士).It is possible for anyone to make a simple animated film without using a camera at all.All you have to do is to draw directly on to an empty film and then run the film through a projector.

I strongly believe that it is rather important to be a good listener. And although I have become a better listener than I was ten years ago,I have to admit I’m still only an adequate(尚可的) listener.
Effective listening is more than simply avoiding the bad habit of interrupting others while they are speaking or finishing their sentences. It’s being content to listen to the entire thought of someone rather than waiting impatiently for your chance to respond. In some ways, the way we fail to listen is symbolic of the way we live.We often treat communication as if it were a race. It’s almost like our goal is to have no gaps between the conclusion of the sentence of the person we are speaking with and the beginning of our own.My wife and I were recently at a cafe having lunch, overhearing the conversations around us.It seemed that no one was really listening to one another;instead they were taking turns not listening to one another.I asked my wife if I still did the same thing. With a smile on her face she said,“only sometimes”.
Slowing down your responses and becoming a better listener aids you in becoming a more peaceful person. It takes pressure from you.If you think about it,you’ll notice that it takes an extremely large amount of energy and is very stressful to be sitting at the edge of your seat trying to guess what the person in front of you(or on the telephone)is going to say so that you can fire back your response. But as you wait for the person you are communicating with to finish,as you simply listen more carefully to what is being said, you’ll notice that the pressure you feel is off.You will immediately feel more relaxed, and so will the people you are talking to.They will feel safe in slowing down their own responses because they won’t feel in competition with you for “air time”!Not only will becoming a better listener make you a more patient person,it will also add to the quality of your relationships.Everyone loves to talk to someone who truly listens to what they are saying.
54.According to the passage,an effective listener should______.
A.accept the speaker’s thought critically
B.respond to the speaker’s words slowly
C.wait for the chance to respond patiently
D.reply the speaker’s question patiently
55.My wife’s words means that sometimes I ______.
A.overhear other people’s conversations
B.may enter a cafe for having lunch
C.await patiently my chance to respond
D.do not really listen to other’s statement
56.When talking with others, you will feel relaxed by ______.
A.sitting at the edge of the seat B.slowing down your responses
C.guessing the speaker’s thought D.responding to the speaker quickly
57.From the passage,we can NOT infer that ______.
A.the author was not an effective listener in the past
B.a person who only wants to respond is not welcome
C.the author’s wife must always be an effective listener
D.both sides in a talk can benefit from effective listening

In 1993,the Metropolitan Museum of Art reluctantly(不情愿地)handed over 363 pieces of gold, silver, precious stones, paintings, and sculptures back to Turkey after a court case.Following increasing calls for the return of artistic objects that were removed decades or centuries ago, some of the world’s leading museums have signed a declaration that they will not hand back the ancient artifacts to their countries of origin. They say people all over the world have only been able to fully appreciate ancient civilizations because these museums have provided access to these artistic objects. The ancient civilizations would not be so deeply admired today if these ancient artifacts were not so widely available to an international public in major museums throughout Europe and America. For example,Egyptian culture would not have become so well-known if the museums had not put Egyptian mummies on show.
The British Museum has not signed the declaration, but says it fully supports it.Over the recent years,it has faced growing pressure to hand back the Elgin Marbles(埃尔金大理石雕),sculptures(雕像)taken from the Parthenon(帕台农神庙)in Athens,Greece,in the 19th century. But the British Museum has said that the Museum is the best possible place for them.“They must remain here if the museum is to continue to achieve its aim, which is to show the world to the world,”said the director of the museum.
58.What reason do the major museums provide for not handing back the ancient objects
A.Only in the leading museums can the objects be fully appreciated by the world.
B.It is better for those objects to remain at a certain place than to be moved around.
C.They need those well-known ancient objects to attract people from all over the world.
D.Ancient civilizations can only be admired if they are removed from their home countries.
59.Which of the following is NOT mentioned as one of the“countries of origin”in the article
A.Turkey. B.Britain. C.Egypt. D.Greece.
60.What does“the world”mean in“show the world to the world”

60. C. 解析:根据对第一段中“The ancient civilizations would not be so deeply admired today if these ancient artifacts were not so widely available to an international public in major museums throughout Europe and America.”一部分和第二段“They must remain here if the museum is to continue to achieve its aim”一句的理解,不难确定此句的意思是:把古代文明给世人看。
