They enjoyed themselves there. On the third morning they decided to get back to the land. But their boat hit a rock and soon went down. With the villagers’s help, they swam to the bank. Luckily none of them was hurt. They took a taxi and half an hour later they arrived at our town, but it was two in the night. The young man was hungry and thirsty. The noise woke me up and I opened the door. I understood at once what was happening and said, “You’re trying to open a wrong door, Tony!”

Air is an smelless, invisible(看不见的) gas that surrounds the planet Earth. It is everwhere on the planet. An “empty” drinking glass and an “empty” room, to give two examples, are not really empty. Each is filled with air. When the glass is filled with water, the water pushes the air out of the glass.
Air as a gas, has no particular shape, but , because it is matter, it takes up space. It is easy to prove that air is something that takes up space. Stuff a dry handkerchief into the bottom of a glass so that it will not fall out when the glass is turned upside down. Push the up-side-down glass, hold straight down, into a jar of water till the glass is completely covered. When the glass is taken out of the water, the handkerchief will be dry. The air inside the glass took up space and kept the water from coming in.

65.The writer tells us that______.

C. Because it is a mixture. D. None of the above
Why did the writer tell us the experiment?
The writer wanted to prove that the handkerchief is dry.
The writer wanted to make us believe air fills up the glass.
The writer wanted to show that air does not take up much space.
The writer wanted to prove that air has no definite shape but it takes up space.

It is often necessary to release (释放)a fish, that is, set it free after catching, because it is too small, or you just don’t want to take it home to eat. In some cases, releasing fish is a good measure that will help keep fish variety and build their population size. The Department of Game and Inland Fisheries(DGIF) encouranges fishermen who practice catch-and-release fishing to use a few simple skills when doing so. The adivce provided below will help make sure that the fish you release will survive(存活) to bite again another day.
----- When catching a fish, play it quickly and keep the fish in the water as much as possible.
Don’t use a net in landing the fish and release it quickly to prevent it from dying.
------Hold the fish gently. Do not put your fingers in its eyes. Don’t wipe the scales(鱼鳞) off the fish because it might cause it to develop a disease and reduce its chance of survial.
------Remove your hook(鱼钩)quickly. If the hook is too deep or hooked in the stomach, cut the line and leave the hook in. The hook left inside will cause no serious problem to the fish.
----- Take good care of the fish by moving it gently in water. Release the fish when it begins to struggle and is able to swim.
-----Do not hold fish in a bucket or some other containers and later decide to release it. If you are going to release afish, do so right away.

What will people die of 100 years from now? If you think that is a simple question, you have not been paying attention to the revolution that is taking place in bio-technology(生物技术). With the help of new medicine, the human body will last a very long time. Death will come mainly from accidents, murder and war. Today’s leading killers, such as heart disease, cancer, and aging itself, will become distant memories.
In discussion of technological changes, the Internet gets most of the attention these days. But the change in medicine can be the real technological event of our times. How long can humans live? Human brains were known to decide the final death. Cell(细胞) are the basic untis of all living things, and until recently, scientists were sure that the life of cells could not go much beyond 120 years because the basic materials of cells, such as those of brain cells, would not last forever. But the upper limits will be broken by new medicine. Sometime between 2050 and 2100, medicine will have advanced to the point at which every 10 years or so, people will be able to take medicine to repair their organs(器官). The medicine, made up of the basic building materials of life, will build new brain cells, heart cells, and so on---in much the same way our bodies make new skin cells to take the place of old ones.
It is exciting to imagine that the advance in technology may be changing the most basic condition of human existence, but many technical problems still must be cleared up on the way to this wonderful future.

I know it’s difficult for him to change his decision. He is not doing so well at his studies, and yet I insist that he should have a try. Now there are only two months left before the exams. I’m not sure whether his decision is right or wrong. I need your advice.
