the Beatles greatly influenced the culture and music of the
1960s and beyond. The band began to take shape in
Liverpool, England, in 1957,when John Lennon invited

a year George Harrison had been added to the group. In 1960 the band took the name the Beatles, and Ringo
Starr signed on as the drummer in 1962. The Beatles
stayed together until 1970, creating a sophisticated and

The next year the zany滑稽 comedy TV show The Monkees debuted(授权) with the band's four members:The Monkeesdrummer Micky Dolenz ,bassist(低音吉他手) Peter Tork ,guitarist Michael Nesmith and heartthrob singer Davy Jones.The show was a surprise hit and the Monkees became popular, releasing albums and even a movie (1968's Head). At first the band members did little more than sing on their albums, though later they began to play instruments and write some of their own songs. Their albums included The Monkees (1966) and Headquarters (1967), with hit singles including "Pleasant Valley Sunday," "I'm a Believer" and "Last Train to Clarksville." The TV show ended in 1968 and Tork left the group the same year. Nesmith left in 1969 and by the end of 1970 The Monkees had fizzled out(结果失败).
