Unit 1 Festivals around the world
Using language Listening and speaking(学案)
Listening Part Unit 1---Festivals around the world
背景知识:Trinidad is one of the islands in the two-island nation of Trinidad and Tobago(特立尼达和多巴哥) in the Caribbean Sea very close to the northeast coast of South America. Carnival time in February is the most important time year for many people who live in Christian Catholic countries. It is a time of community celebration that lasts for several days and ends in a great parade of musicians, dancers and the local people. Other famous Carnival festivals are in New Orleans in the USA, Rio in Brazil, Quebec in Canada and in many Caribbean countries. Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday is the name given to the final day of Carnivals as it is the last day of the celebration. On this day in some countries it is traditional to eat pancakes with butter and maple syrup or other sweet things. Carnival derives from the Latin “carne vale” or “ farewell to the flesh” ,a reference to the fact that many people do not eat meat during Lent(基督教大斋节)—the 40-day period before Easter.
