书面表达:
Li Hua and Wang Hai are two students of Senior Three. Both of them work hard but they have different learning methods. Li Hua listens to her teachers attentively, trying to catch everything that the teachers say in class. Besides, she often consults her teachers as often as possible if she has some problems. Because of this, she spends less time doing her homework, so it is certain that she can go to bed earlier and she always keeps energetic in the day.
However, Wang Hai has quite a different way of learning. He likes to sit up late at night doing his homework, so he often feels sleepy in class. As a result, he misses lots of key points and it usually takes him more time to finish his homework, which makes it difficult for him to concentrate on what he is doing.
In my opinion, Li Hua learns more effectively in class and has more free time to to enjoy herself. So I prefer her learning method.
Li Hua

The anger of PETA has now been turned on KFC, the fried-chicken chain. After two years of failed talks aimed at forcing KFC to introduce more humane (人道的) practices into the raising and killing of chickens, PETA announced last week that it would start a worldwide “Kentucky Fried Cruelty” movement.
PETA wants KFC to kill its chickens using gas rather than cutting their throats, to increase their living space and to provide resting-places for the bird. “KFC has got a lot from chickens but treated them badly, leaving us no choice but to turn up the heat,” said Burger Friedrich, PETA’s director, “McDonald’s, Burger King and Wendy’s did something under the pressure; KFC would do well to follow their lead.”
The PETA movement intends to catch the attention of anyone who has ever had close dealings with chickens. “Chickens are interesting animals.” the movement’s press release begins, “and are thought to be at least as clever as dogs or cats.” Mr Friedrich of PETA insists that social relations among chickens are more developed than those among cats, and nearly as developed as those among dogs. “When Jesus(耶稣)was looking for a way to express God’s love for man, he used the example of a hen’s (母鸡) love for her young,” he said.

Old Computers Make for Unhappy Workers —Survey
LONDON(Reuters) — Dealing with the dissatisfaction of aging and unreliable office computers leads to workers’ unhappiness and more sick-leave, a survey(调查) showed on Wednesday.
A survey carried out by caro4free. net of over 2,700 European office workers from the UK, France and Germany found that workplace dissatisfaction increased greatly with the age of the computer equipment.
“We do know that job satisfaction is falling in Britain and most advanced nations,” said Stephen White, a researcher from the Work Foundation. “The actual reasons for this are the subject of the very heated discussion. It’s certainly one interesting theory that technology may be the cause of this in some way,” White added.
A quarter of these using outdated computers in Britain said they were “quite” or “ very dissatisfied “ with their everyday job compared to the percent of those who had enjoyed an advantage from up-to-date technology.
The survey also said that among workers dealing with outdated equipment, there was a 35 percent greater probability they would take six or more days of sick leave per year compared with the average worker. In France, where more workers use old computers, the probability jumped to 55 percent.
Results also showed that women in the three countries were more likely to be using outdated equipment. In the UK, where more workers have up-to-date computers than in the other countries surveyed, the number of women using old equipment doubled than of men.
White pointed out that there were two sides to this problem, saying that continuously having to deal with new technology and equipment can also be a source of worry. “Old and faulty equipment is a major cause of office dissatisfaction. There is no question about it; but you also have to say that the frequent change of equipment is also, or could be, a main cause of dissatisfaction.”
64. The underlined word “this” (paragraph 3) refers to ______.
A. job dissatisfaction B. computer use in most jobs
C. the aging office computers D. the survey carried out by care4free. net
65. According to White, why were the women surveyed more likely to use old computers?
A. Most office workers use old computers.
B. They do some of their work with computers.
C. Dealing with new equipment can cause anxiety.
D. They are easier to be satisfied with new technology.
66. What is the news story mainly about?
A. Poor working conditions in offices
B. Research work done by the Work Foundation
C. Influence of technology in the workplace.
D. Different attitudes to old computers.
C
You've probably heard of the butterfly(蝴蝶) effect that small changes in one place can lead to great damage elsewhere. The Toy Story, Made-in-China, appearing on the Internet, TV screens and front pages of newspapers worldwide since August, was a live show. China' s reputation (声誉) as "the world's factory" was badly damaged this summer by a small, but powerful magnet(磁铁), and colorful paints on toys.
Mattel, the world's largest toy company in the US, on August 14 announced the biggest recall(召回)of toys in its history. Among the recalled products were 17.4 million toys that had a design problem. They contained a small, powerful magnet that could harm children if it was swallowed. Another 2.2 million toys were recalled because of impermissible levels of lead(铅) in their paint.
Although the designing problem has nothing to do with where the toys were made, the reports in the western media of the recall started to draw a horrible picture in many American parents' minds.
The toy recall issue followed close on the heels of recalls earlier in the year of Chinese-made pet food and toothpaste and left consumers all over the world worried about buying anything labeled "Made-in-China".
The recall of the toys teaches Chinese companies that quality is extremely important. However, many of the complaints by western countries about Chinese goods reflect complicated feelings about the growing Chinese economy, culture differences and various political systems.
However, more than 100 US multinational companies from a range of industries, including Boeing and Microsoft, signed a letter to the US Congress on September 28, to reject (抵制) the proposal against China." Imposing (强加) unfair barriers to trade in the name of product safety is not a solution." the companies wrote.
Toys are made for children to learn about the reality world and become more mature, however, the Chinese version of Toy Story helps lots of adults learn about responsibility, importance of quality, understanding, communications, and more.
67. The author mentions the butterfly effect at the beginning of the passage to ______.
A. explain what the butterfly effect is
B. tell the readers what causes the butterfly effect
C. say that the toy effect is similar to the butterfly effect
D. compare the differences between the butterfly effect and the toy effect
68. Which of the following reasons is NOT mentioned to have caused the recall?
A. The small, powerful magnet on toys.
B. The colorful paints on toys.
C. The pictures on the toys.
D. The designing problem.
69. Boeing and Microsoft signed a letter to the US Congress, because______.
A. they think it's unfair to impose barriers in the name of product safety
B. the Chinese companies have realized the importance of quality
C. the Toy Story has made some Chinese companies suffer great losses

70.Which of the following can be the best title of the passage?

Intense physical exercise is not the only way to better health. Studies show that walking several times a week can lower the risk of many diseases. They include heart disease, stroke, diabetes, bone loss, arthritis (关节炎), and depression. Walking also can help you lose weight.
Fast walking is good for the heart. It lowers the blood pressure. It raises the amount of good cholesterol (胆固醇) in the blood. Researchers say walking can sharply reduce the risk of suffering a heart attack.
Studies have also shown that walking for 30 minutes a day can delay and possibly prevent the development of diabetes. People who are overweight have an especially high risk to develop this disease.
Walking strengthens the muscles and builds up the bones that they are attached to. Studies show that walking could decrease the risk of developing osteoporosis (骨质疏松症). Walking can also help ease the pain of arthritis in areas where bones are joined. This is because walking strengthens the muscles around the bones.
Experts say walking is one of the safest ways to exercise. There is a low risk of injuries. So it is good for people who are starting an exercise program for the first time and for older people.
A walking program is easy to start. You should wear loose clothes and good shoes. There are shoes that are designed especially for lots of walking.
How fast should you walk? For the best effect, doctors say you should walk fast enough to cause you to breathe hard. Yet you should still be able to talk. Let your arms move freely while you walk.
There are no rules to start a walking program. You might walk short distances. Or you might walk up hills to strengthen your leg muscles. Health experts say you can gain the most from a walking program if you walk at about five kilometers an hour for 30 minutes a day. You should do this about five times a week.
